The Kidde i12060 is an AC/DC powered, ionization smoke alarm that operates on a 120V power source with 9V battery backup. This alarm uses ionization sensing technology. Ionization sensing alarms may detect invisible fire particles (associated with flaming fires) sooner than photoelectric alarms. Photoelectric sensing alarms may detect visible particles (associated with smoldering fires) sooner than ionization alarms. The front load battery operation speeds installation and reduces battery replacement time and effort by eliminating the need to remove the alarm from the ceiling. Alarm is packaged with two universal adapters that allows easy installation when replacing other branded smoke alarm.

  • Front door battery provides easy access which reduces the installation time and battery replacement time
  • Smart interconnect feature
  • Battery pull tab prevents draining battery until permanent AC power is connected - reduces callback's for battery replacement
  • Dust cover provided protects sensors during construction
  • Ionization sensor with nominal sensitivity of 0.50 to 1.06% ft. and temperature operating range is between 40˚F and 100˚F and unit includes a piezoelectric horn that is rated at 85 dB at 10 ft.
  • 9-Volt battery back up (21025830)
  • Piezoelectric horn is rated at 85 dB at 10 ft.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love these! After our power went out several times within 10 minutes, our old smoke detectors would go off at random times and were difficult to silence. We also realized the old ones were expired. I purchased the new ones at Home Depot and installed them myself. I didn't need any new connectors because the old smoke detectors were made by Kidde. I changed the housing on the ceiling without any issues. I replaced five of them in less than an hour. An added plus is that we don't have to take the detector down to change the battery when it's low, whereas on the old ones we did. Just push the battery door and it pops open, change the battery, and push the battery door shut. January 7, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Chirping Solved - Poor Engineering The chirping problem I encountered also. Didn't matter how new or what brand of battery. The problem is with the contacts with the battery. In an effort to make changing the battery easy, they have engineered themselves a product that fails at too high a frequency. Do you remember the good old 9v contacts that actually plugged into the battery? Well this ain't that. To remedy: a thin layer of material taped to the bottom of the 9v battery will force such into the poorly engineered contacts sufficiently enough to ensure empowerment. To test: close battery within compartment prior to installing the 110v power. Push test. If it alarms there will be no chirping. Solved, your friendly neighborhood NC State chemist, the Proudwolf. Go Pack! February 26, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent product for the purpose. I needed to replace my 16-year-old wired smoke alarms (should have done it after ten years) and the original product was no longer available as the company was no longer in business. This product was a perfect replacement and the adapters made the install a snap. I now have fresh smoke alarms, good for another ten years with much better battery access and easier maintenance than the alarms that were replaced. And, because I needed four, shipping was free. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Quality 75% Bought 4 units to change all detectors in my home. One of the four is continuing to chirp very randomly. Maybe once a day, two times in a row and then not again until hours later, etc. Have replaced the battery that came in the package with a real name brand battery with the same symptoms. Only recourse is to buy another unit and try to replace. Manufacturer needs to improve quality of this product. That said, I did give a recommendation since it has a new working rate of 75% (3 of 4). Not sure how other manufacturers would rate. January 21, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Grewat for Replacing Old Kidde Smoke Alarms Our old Kidde smoke alarms were starting to fail. These new Kidde alarms only required mounting the new housing to install. They connected using the old alarm wiring harness. March 24, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Random chirping problem with detectors Replaced two old detectors with the Kidde i12060a and about 12 hours later one started to chirp. I bought another and replaced it and about 6 hours later both were chirping. Searched internet and found solution to random chirping for this model. You must remove 120 volt and battery power then hold down push to test button for 30 seconds. Then install, close battery door, restore 120 volt power and no more chirping. Apparently a code is stored in the detector when 120 volt power is applied before the battery is installed which causes the random chirping. This isn't in the enclosed manual. Thank you China! Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Gives false alarms I bought this 2 years ago and it started giving false alarms. The first time was during the day which was just annoying. The second and third times it happened during the night waking us all up. I have other Kidde alarms, #1276 for many years and they seem to be fine. I will try to get that model as a replacement for this one. I would NOT recommend this model. Also, their warranty is practically worthless as the cost of shipping (and return shipping which the consumer has to pay) is almost as much as the cost of the detector. December 27, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by perfect replacement Easily replaced all five of my ten-year-old detectors that had been in place since construction. Hush feature is a plus for silencing alarm located near kitchen that frequently activates. April 8, 2015
