Answer:
Hello Oz. The alarm that replaces the I12020 is the i12040A or the P12040. However, all Kidde hardwired alarms are compatible with all other Kidde hardwired alarms, and all Kidde hardwired alarms use the same wiring harness. If you used an alarm of a different model, the only thing you would have to change is the plastic mounting bracket. The I12040A, the P12040, and the I12080A all have the same Read More

The I12040A, the P12040, and the I12080A all have the same mounting bracket as the I12020. The new alarms do come with a wiring harness that is slightly different than the wiring harness of the much older models from the 90's and very early 2000's and is made to be easier to take out of the back of the alarms, but the old wiring harnesses will work with the new alarms except for the KN-COSM-IBA, I12010S, and the I12010SCO. The wiring harnesses can get brittle as they age and the plastic or the wires can break. Best practice is to change out the wiring harnesses every 10 years to avoid that from happening. Speaking of the I12010S, the I12010S has a built-in 10 year battery that will last the life of the alarm, if you want to avoid changing batteries. We are Kidde Product Support at 1-800-880-6788. Answer:
Hello Tim. There is no direct replacement for the model H. The new alarms will have a different wiring harness plug that will have to be wired in and a different bracket. The new alarms will come with new plugs and new brackets. If you have further questions about this, you can call us at Kidde Product Support at 1-800-880-6788. Thank you for your interest.

Answer:
Hello. In reference to your question, this alarm shouldn't chirp. You can try vacuuming out the alarm around the side edges of the alarm to get out any dust or debris. If you still get chirping, then they should be replaced. If your alarms are over 10 years old, they should just be replaced. None of our current alarms will work with your alarms or will use this wiring harness or mounting bracket. You Read More
You will have to change out the mounting brackets and wiring harnesses when you purchase new alarms and you will need to take down all of the old alarms that are interconnected with this alarm before putting up any new alarms. We make adaptors for some of the older FireX wiring harnesses but in this case they will not work for you. If you have any further questions about this, please call us at 1-800-880-6788 and we would be happy to answer your questions. Thank you for your interest. Read Less

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 8 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by six were not enough it wasn't clear in the write up but these detectors have no battery. This was actually good because two of the detectors I replaced were so high up I had to bring in my extension ladder to get to them--a real pain when the battery starts chirping. August 5, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by like home depot online The smoke detectors were a direct replacement for my old ones. Found them on the home Depot online and ordered them. Two days later they are here and installed. The smoke detectors are great but home depot online is even better. July 7, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by FALSE ALARMS!!!! I was happy with this alarm when I first purchased it to replace all of my old discolored in my home due to the universal plug & quick installation. However, less than 48 hours after installing all 13 of them in my house I have had false alarms going off every 4-18 hours at random times & in the middle of the night (not much fun when you have a 5 month old that just started sleeping through the night). Now, I have about a 8 hour testing & troubleshooting process to go through to find out how many of them are actually bad. I would strongly recommend to spend a few extra bucks, get a better unit even if it requires some rewiring. Naturally, I don't have the boxes anymore so returning them is out of the question. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Replacements for 10 year old originals Direct replacement. I have 7 tied together. The two I have replaced have a red light that flashes periodically that I don't find in the instructions. Maybe when I get them all changed out the red light will stop. For now it's not a problem. They do work with the old units. October 17, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to install, no false alarms This was an easy retrofit due to the wiring harness it comes with plus the mounting plate had several hole width options, so it was an easy replacement of the unit I was replacing. October 29, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect alarm for a home with a battery back up system. If your home has a battery back up system for your hard wired fire and alarm systems this unit is the perfect choice. No separate unit battery to maintain or replace. Hush feature is a must and the green/red LED light lets you know immediately if your unit is working or which unit initiated the alarm. Easy install. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Just what the doctor ordered Perfect fit and most importantly, they work wonderfully. I didn't even have to replace the base, just plug in and test. They were also very economical. November 12, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by They were what I wanted. Good experience from start to finiish. Do not know why you are not satisfied with first sentence. January 31, 2012
