Hi, I have 6 hardwired smoke detectors in my home. 4 of the 6 are interconnected by wire. The last 2 do not have a wire interconnecting them and I can not get an interconnect wire to these 2. I need to know what model numbers I will need to have all six interconnected and the location of them (meaning interconnected by wire or not). The 4 that I currently have interconnected are FireX model i4618. The other two will be replaced. Thanks
Asked by: Jim
Hello Jim. To make this work, you will want to replace one and only one of the 4 interconnected I4618's with the RF-SM-ACDC, Model # RF-SM-ACDC, Internet #100655551, Store SKU #974677, Store SO SKU #198092. This alarm will act as a bridge between the alarms that interconnect through the wires and the alarms that interconnect only wirelessly. Then in the two remaining locations where there is no interconnection, you can either use this alarm, the RF-SM-ACDC, or you can use the battery-only alarms Model # RF-SM-DC, Internet #100655041, Store SKU #974446, Store SO SKU #198092. This will interconnect your alarms together. We are Kidde Product Support at 1-800-880-6788. Thank you for your interest

can I get the package with 10 year batteries?

Asked by: dgee
Hello Dgee. This alarm can not be used with 10 year batteries. There was only one model and brand of lithium battery listed to work with this alarm and it is not made anymore. Even with that lithium battery, the battery often did not last for 10 years. A fresh battery should last for one year under normal operating conditions. We would recommend using one of these batteries with a good use-by date of at least 5 or 6 years out for the best battery life, such as a use-by date of 2022 or beyond: ENERGIZER 522; DURACELL MN1604 OR MX1604; GOLD PEAK 1604A; PANASONIC 6AM6, 6AM-6, 6AM-6PI, 6AM6X, and 6LR61(GA). Can this be used with existing hardwired interconnected system?

I have a job where there are three interconnected hard wired smoke detectors. Fire inspector wants another one in a room that would be almost impossible to get the interconnecting wire to. Could I replace one of the existing detectors with one of these and then add another one in the new location, so that the wireless detectors will operate with the existing hardwired interconnected detectors?
Asked by: Dave
This is a warning to others. According to the Kidde company support these will NOT work with an exiting system unless all the rest of the detectors are compatible Kidde brand detectors. That means you would be forced to replace all of the existing detectors on the system. I think that stinks, since the interconnect wire is just basically a switch it should be able to trigger any other detector regardless of the brand. This is very disappointing.

It just keep going of for no reason
Asked by: Paj
Hello Paj. Try this. Take a hose attachment of a vacuum cleaner and run it around the back side edges of the alarm. Move the hose VERY slowly around the sides and spend 3 or 4 minutes vacuuming it out. Then try powering it up on battery alone without plugging it in.. If it is still going off for smoke, call us at Kidde Product Support at 1-800-880-6788 with this alarm and batteries in hand and we will investigate further and help you with your alarm.

Can you use multiple 120-Volt units to create an AC powered wirelessly interconnected smoke alarm system?

Asked by: BCskier
Hello BC Skier. In reference to your question, it depends. If none of your current alarms are currently interconnected, then all of the alarms would need to be the wireless smoke alarm model # RF-SM-ACDC, Internet #100655551, part number 1279-9999. If some of the alarms in your house are currently Kidde hardwired smoke alarms that are interconnected on a three wire circuit and you merely wish to expand the circuit wirelessly, then you would replace one of the hardwired alarms with the hardwired wireless alarm model # RF-SM-ACDC, Internet #100655551, part number 1279-9999, and then put the battery-only wireless smoke alarm model # RF-SM-DC, Internet # 100655041, part number 0919-9999 in the locations where you want to expand the circuit. If you have any questions about this, please feel free to call us at 1-800-880-6788 and we are happy to explain further. Thank you for your interest.

Detectors are chirping what causes this

Asked by: Joe
Hello Joe. If this alarm is chirping every 30 seconds, then this is a low battery alert. Replace the batteries with new Duracell MN1600 or MX 1600, Energizer 522 or Kidde 9 volt alkaline batteries. If this does not fix the problem, take down the alarm that is chirping and call us at Kidde Product Support at 1-800-880-6788 with the alarm and battery in hand and we will troubleshoot these alarms with you to see what is going on.

when I change the batteries they all beep intermittently. Why?

I can't find my manual so I can't figure out what is wrong.
Asked by: Virginia
Hello Virginia. Make sure the new batteries are either Duracell 9 volt model MN1604, Duracell 9 volt model MX1604, or Energizer 9 volt model 522. It does have to be one of these batteries. Make sure the battery has a good use-by date of at least 3 or 4 years out, of at least 2020 or beyond. Make sure the battery is in properly with the smaller round terminal being the positive and in the right location. Before plugging the alarm in, test the alarm on battery alone. Let it run on battery alone on a table for about an hour. Does it test on battery alone when unplugged? Does it chirp on battery alone when unplugged? If the unit will not power up on battery alone or still chirps. please call us at Kidde Product Support at 1-800-880-6788 with the alarm and two different batteries from two different packs of batteries in hand so we can help you troubleshoot the alarm and see what is going on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Connects to wireless detectors and older hardwired detectors Excellent detector and simple install! I had 6 older hardwired detector that I wanted to slowly upgrade and add a battery powered detector in another room that would connect with the other detectors. I purchased this wireless hardwired detector and a wireless battery detector. Install took 4 minutes each and a few pushes of buttons and the detectors were connected!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Replacement units, easy to,order and install This unitneed to be replaced every 10 years. Therefore when my old unit started to "chirp" I ordered the exact replacement and have it in a few days. It can with the battery for battery backup. It simply plugged into my existing base and we're all set. I was happy to see that Home Depot carried the replacement units, even though the original unit was 10 years old.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Only Interconnects with the same Model What is the point of Kidde having a wireless standard if multiple Kidde wireless products don't communicate. I have several Kidde Model 21010625 wireless interconnected alarms and they do not communicate with this product. Both are sometimes sold side-by-side at the Home Depot, so make sure you understand this little detail before purchase. And as a message for Kidde...fix this! This would be so ease to fix with hopefully just a firmware update. Get on it!
