Q:Is this compatible with firex 120-890b. Can I use the existing hardwired plug and mounting bracket
by|Apr 14, 2024
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  Hello. There is no direct replacement for your alarms. That being said, you can use any of our current alarms to replace your older alarms. You will have to take down all of the older alarms before putting up any new alarms. You will have to change out the mounting brackets at each location but that will just take a screwdriver to change out. You will either have to change out and rewire the wiring harness plugs at each location or you can choose to use the KA-F2 adaptors to adapt the old plugs to our new alarms. The adaptors would plug into the old plugs and the new alarms would plug into the adaptors. The model for the adaptor pack is the 21028461 which includes the KA-F2 and the KA-B2 for some of the older BRK/First Alert plugs.

Q:I just found out the two Kidde detectors I have are both smoke detectors. If I replace one with this Kidde carbon monoxide detector, will it fit on the previous smoke detector mounting bracket on the ceiling?

        Answer This Question

A:  Just depends on model. It's not hard to change it out.

        by|Jan 6, 2022

A:  Dont know but it's easier to purchase a CM unit separate that runs on batteries where u can place it anywhere u want in the house. . I changed out all my kiddos when I bought my house and bought 2 detectors . Lot easier and u can place them out of sight out of mine

          by|Jan 7, 2022

A:  Hi, I would say probably not. However, the base comes off easily just by loosening the two screws. You may have to change the connection too.

            by|Jan 8, 2022

A:  Mine did, no issue, and the electrical connection to the string also works.

A:  Hello. It depends on the model of your old smoke alarm. all Kidde hardwired alarms are compatible with all other Kidde hardwired alarms, and all Kidde hardwired alarms use the same wiring harness. If you used an alarm of a different model, the only thing you would have to change is the plastic mounting bracket. Changing out the mounting bracket would just a screwdriver and no drilling needed The new alarms do come with a wiring harness that is slightly different than the wiring harness of the much older models from before 2006 and is made to be easier to take out of the back of the alarms, but the old wiring harnesses will work with the current alarms that have a 9 volt battery as a backup battery. The models with 10 year batteries or AA batteries will not work with the much older wiring harnesses because these particular alarms won't fit onto the bracket with the older larger plugs.

QUALITY CONTROL STINKS - DID NOT WORK!
Spent the time to research, select, purchase. Installed it and the test button failed to work. Total waste of my labor. Infer from this a lack of quality control by manufacturer. Steer clear.

This product is as advertised and was easy to replace my old hardwired carbon monoxide detectors of the same make. Just installed two of them in a few minutes today, and they have a life expectancy of ten years.
