A must have item for a home with an attached garage. Its the law in Massachusetts. I couldn't believe they were hard to find here in Colorado. With the help of Home Depot, they quickly located one in another one their other stores abet a little dusty but it works fine. The Massachusetts fire inspector explain how it had to be hooked into the other alarms ie smoke, carbon monoxide. When heat in garage hits 135 all alarms go off while declaring FIRE! I found it very easy to hook up and am sleeping better these days. Thank you Home Depot! Art

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by flamer123 No more false alarms.
Fumes from my Street Rod would set off my house alarm, usually at 2 or 3 AM. My son in law (ex Firefighter) told me the make heat detectors. I bought one online and it was plug and play. Took just a couple minutes to install. No false alarms since then.

After researching fire detection systems, I knew what I wanted & only HD had everything in stock at my local store. I had a bit of a time trying to find them in the shelf display, but a sales person was quickly able to point them out to me.

Easy to install. A good opportunity to have some alarming in probably the most important place in the house (for fires) that interconnects with the rest. That is in the garage.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Roadtoad Careful Placement Necessary
I put the unit in the attic, near the gas furnace. After enduring the heat of summer, no alarms, then on the first really cold day in the fall, I turned the heat on for the first time, after it had already gotten really cold outside . The 15 degrees change in one minute got it. A False alarm that set the other smoke alarms off. Scared me. When the temp increases suddenly, it will go off with out reaching 135 . Placement is very important to reduce false alarms. I took it out of service.

I prefer to install a sprinkler in the utility room, garage and kitchen. These are areas that tend to give false alarms yet have a potential for fires. I like this unit since it connects to the other smoke detectors yet does not false alarm. I am a former fire fighter.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Raver208 Kidde Heat Detector Seems a Fine Product
This was a good product and fairly easy to install. I installed it on then ceiling of the utility room in our condo, where the furnace & air handler are kept. This unit replaced a much older one that had broken off the bracket. Safest bet is to change these units out every 10 years and this particular one was almost on 20 years. We've only lived in the condo for 4 years, and I recently found out how old our detector was.
