What is the specified operating temperature? I need it for an attic where it gets very cold and very hot.
Asked by: Shawn
Hello Shawn. We recommend avoiding using this alarm in locations where the temperature may fall below -20ºF or rise above 100ºF. For many places in the country where attics get too warm for a 135 degree heat detector, we would recommend purchasing a 200 degree switch-type spot-type combination heat detector and rate-of-rise detector, which is a mechanical switch that closes if the heat rises too quickly or gets too high, and then connecting that detector to an interconnected system of Kidde hardwired alarms with the SM120X relay module, which can be special ordered at the Pro Desk at any Home Depot. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hard to find item in Colorado A must have item for a home with an attached garage. Its the law in Massachusetts. I couldn't believe they were hard to find here in Colorado. With the help of Home Depot, they quickly located one in another one their other stores abet a little dusty but it works fine. The Massachusetts fire inspector explain how it had to be hooked into the other alarms ie smoke, carbon monoxide. When heat in garage hits 135 all alarms go off while declaring FIRE! I found it very easy to hook up and am sleeping better these days. Thank you Home Depot! Art

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice to have. Easy to install. A good opportunity to have some alarming in probably the most important place in the house (for fires) that interconnects with the rest. That is in the garage.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Careful Placement Necessary I put the unit in the attic, near the gas furnace. After enduring the heat of summer, no alarms, then on the first really cold day in the fall, I turned the heat on for the first time, after it had already gotten really cold outside . The 15 degrees change in one minute got it. A False alarm that set the other smoke alarms off. Scared me. When the temp increases suddenly, it will go off with out reaching 135 . Placement is very important to reduce false alarms. I took it out of service.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Upgraded house fire detection system After researching fire detection systems, I knew what I wanted & only HD had everything in stock at my local store. I had a bit of a time trying to find them in the shelf display, but a sales person was quickly able to point them out to me.
