I have 4 hardwired smoke alarms in my home that needed to be replaced from old age and the lack of a battery backup. I had no idea what to expect from the original wiring, wiring harness, mounting hardware or operation of the new alarms. I did expect another trip to the store would be involved somewhere. To my surprise I was able to replace all 4 alarms with new combination alarms, rewire the harnesses and finish installation in less than an hour. Operations test was a surprise also, first a voice announcing type of alarm fire or CO2, then unique high decibel alarm for each, all 4 alarms sound the alert. I am very happy with this purchase.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by jason FALSE ALARMS driving my family nuts!!
In short, these models are prone to false-smoke alarms @ random hours during the night. I am certain there is nothing wrong with the wiring more installation in any way. These are simply a poor design. I have had no issued with the competing brand I was previously using before I replaced them with these new units. Out of 8 alarms in my system, I have already had to exchange TWO faulty units so far in the first 2 months of use. These are suppose to be guaranteed for 10 years?! Read the bad reviews on Amazon & Home depot that reflect that this is NOT an isolated issue

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Vicky Do not buy this brand combo false alarms every day
I wish I can give negative rating to this combo alarm from Kidde. It goes on by itself every night or day and says Fire Fire and there is no fire around in any of the alarms. I got these upgraded 6 months back during my house renovation. I would advise that stay away from these and do not waste your money and sleep by purchasing these alarms.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Sammy False alarms after 6 months use
Have installed 3 of the Kidde units model KN-COPE_ICCA but one of the units starting giving false smoke alarms at all different times of day/night after six months of usage. Took it back to Home Depot, who replaced it for no charge. The alarms can be very annoying and bothersome to pets. We vacuumed the unit after first few alarms to no avail. I would expect it to perform better especially with a 10 year guarantee.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Steve Great combo unit
I bought 3 of these to replace 3 ancient interconnected BRK units that did smoke detection only and had to be from the 1980s. I also bought adapters so that I could reuse the existing wiring harnesses. It was a pretty straightforward install. I love now having CO detection in addition to smoke, plus the voice feature, plus the battery backup - all new for me. I had 1 false alarm 2 nights after the installation, but I believe it was due to an improperly seated connector/adapter. After addressing this, it's been at least a month and it hasn't happened again, which is good since I went with this brand because of all of the false-alarm complaints of other brands.

I had old (1989) Firex smoke detectors (Kidde bought Firex) so got this one thinking the old three prong female plug would fit the three prongs on this new one. Seems Kidde's marketing had a meeting with engineering to figure out a way around this and they did. While the old plug exactly mates the new three prongs, it doesn't lock in place for secure fit. Result? You need to turn off the power and rewire, something I was just trying to avoid. Once that task is done, nice unit.

These detectors and related photoelectric only detectors constantly false alarm. During dry winter months everything is okay. When summer high humidity is present they false alarm. These detectors do not have insect screens This year we had to remove the all 9 units in the summer because of humidity, had recently cleaned and reinstalled with new batteries, then false alarmed again yesterday, apparently due to lady bugs. Contacting Kidde is most unhelpful and unfriendly, both by telephone and on line.
I have just ordered Gentex GN-303 detectors; Gentex has a good reputation in the industry (i'm a retired electrical consulting engineer).
By the way I originally purchased USI detectors from HD and they were as bad or worse than the Kidde units also purchased from HD. So in 6 years, I'm on my third replacement, therefore not a happy customer!

I sure love this product it protected us well. I had an earlier version of this same detector. We are having are roof repaired new shingles and wood. apparently some carbon Monoxide from the tools on the roof got into our attic and the air conditioner has an air intake from the attic so it got sucked in and distributed inside. So two of our carbon monoxide alarms were sounding , I wasn't home , so my wife got my cane and busted both alarms . Yep I married a real winner there , she pointed out when I got home she and my son had been "in the house for 8-hours and haven't died yet so there"
She will be the death of me... So I need to buy two more. Our heater is from 1976 what are the odds that it actually is the heater emitting carbon monoxide and I wont wake to buy new ones ? at least YOU get to know they work great.
