Too many people ignore the need for safety equipment in the household and this fire extinguisher is light, quickly installed, and easy to use.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Bob If you want to extinguish a fire, I highly reccomend a fire extinguisher.
It's a fire extinguisher, what more do you want from me? The only reason I'm reviewing this product is to look busy at work.

We have used these extinguishers for years. We replace every 5 years. We have always trained with the old extinguisher. They worked perfectly even after hanging in the kitchen for 5 years.

We have had a Kidde Fire Extinguisher since 1998 at the ready, but never needed it, until last night.
The 12 year old, and never service unit performed faultlessly as we had our first ever chimney fire. Once the fire extinguisher unit was shot up the chimney, the heat took the fire suppressant material up the draft and helped put out the fire before it got too big to control. The built up creosote was glowing red, and threatening to get hotter. Embers from the creosote were visible coming out the top of the chimney, in abundance.
If we did not have the extinguisher available, the house would have had sever damage at a minimum, but instead we just need to have the chimney flue swept and inspected.
I did not have to fumble with anything, since I do not even remember pulling the pin, just grab the canister and focus the hose up the flue. (the wood in the fire box had already been doused with a gallon of h2o, so I could peek up the flue) The combination of cooling the updraft and the fire suppressant flowing up the same flue save us from a disastrous situation.
I am keeping the discharge canister as a reminder on prevention, and purchasing a new unit today.
