Do these adapters accept a three prong triangular connector on one side and a three prong in line connector on the other side?
Asked by: Dale
Hello Dale. There are a number of companies out there that have 3 prongs in a line on the wiring harness connector. These two adaptors are for two very specific wiring harnesses. The KA-B adaptor is to adapt ONE of the specific wiring harnesses that used to be used by BRK for the use with Kidde Products. That would be the BRK wiring harness used with the First Alert models SA4120B SA4121B, SA4919 and BRK MODELS 4120, 4120B, 4120SB, 4919, 5919, 86RAC. The KA-F adaptor is to adapt ONE of the specific wiring harnesses that used to be used by FireX before we at Kidde bought them out, for the use with Kidde Products. This would be the FireX wiring harness used with the FireX Models AD 4418 , ADC 4518, and FADC both the 4618 and the 5000. These adaptors will not work with the I12010S (21010407-A), the I12010SCO (21010408-N), and the KN-COSM-IBA(21006377-N). These models will not work with the adaptors because these particular alarms won't fit onto their brackets with the adaptors plugged in. We are Kidde Product Support at 1-800-880-6788. Thank you for your interest.

Asked by: rodnog
Hello Rodnog, There are no models of Kidde that will have the same components as the old FIREX. Firex became part of Kidde in 2008 and their product was never made again. The new Kidde-Firex come with a mounting plate and wire harness, both of which need to be installed.

I have a First Alert Model 9120B (circa 2009) smoke detector. Do I need a Kidde Adapter to connect it to a Kidde KN-COSM-IBA, or is the interconnect with others automatic by rewiring?
Asked by: Bill
Hello Bill, It is strongly recommended that you use the Kidde harness and that all of the units be replaced as they are not compatible. Thank you for choosing Kidde.

Will this harness work with the Firex 120-10708 model?
Asked by: Parguy46
Hello Parguy46. Yes, you can use this adaptor to adapt the old plugs to our new alarms, with the exception of the I12010S, the I12010SCO, and the KN-COSM-IBA. You will still have to change out the brackets but that just takes a screwdriver. We are Kidde Product Support at 1-800-880-6788. Thank you for your interest.

Instead of having to splice wires together, you are able to use the same wiring as is in place without the need to splice any wires. Of course, you have to make sure they work with your brand of smoke detectors.

I just wish you sold the adapters separately, and not as a pair with both styles. What am I supposed to do with the other one? Seems a waste of materials.

These adapters eliminate the need for any wiring work when replacing A-C powered smoke detectors, They are compact, taking up little room in the electrical box. They fit well and are easy to use. Snap the correct adapter onto the new detector, then snap in the wiring connector that connected the old detector. If you are comfortable with wiring work, you don't need these, otherwise, they make the job very easy.
