Customer Questions & Answers

Do you receive voice alert as to type of alarm? How do you know if it is smoke or co2 alarming?

Asked by: Vic
As it states on the label on the back of the alarm: Smoke alarm is 3 long beeps, 1 second pause, repeating. CO2 alarm is 4 quick beeps, 1 second pause, repeating. In both cases, the led blinks in tandem with the sound beeps.

I'm wondering what battery it takes!

Lithium, no functional or service parts to replaced. Sealed from the factory.

If one alarm sounds do they all?????

Asked by: Golfer
No, this is a "single station" alarm. Your other alarms should sound when the smoke/co2 moves into their range. IMHO this helps you identify the area in which the smoke or co2 is developing, but if it's in the basement, you're not going to hear the alarm up on the 3rd floor in a bedroom with a closed door. There are tradeoffs. If you have single station units, I'd have more of them (e.g., at bottom and top of staircases, in kitchens and furnace rooms, outside bedrooms). If you have linked alarms, you can get away with fewer. I'd rather have more alarms than fewer: my reasoning is that if a single alarm is defective (e.g., a linked, transmitting alarm that fails to transmit), another alarm is close enough that it soon will go off. But all this depends upon your personal preferences, and on the layout and construction of your home.

Does the product list anywhere the year it will expire, or do you need to make note of this itself and/or just wait for the day it chirps on you?
Asked by: Dodo
There is a label on the outer edge of each unit, on which you can put the date put into service, so that information is available without searching.

One of them kept going off at random times for no reason at all, waking up the whole house or having my poor pets in a panic when it went off during the day and no one was home. I finally had to kill it completely when one night neither the hush button nor fanning it worked to silence it. Now the second unit started to act up as well! These alarms are total junk!!! I still have some of the older styles of smoke alarms, that use a regular 9V battery, installed and they are always quiet unless I burn toast or the battery needs changing.

Meets new local fire code requirements in my town for selling house. Hope they are never needed! Used these to replace 12-year-old wired smoke detectors. Technology has improved greatly. Siren and voice can be heard throughout 4,000 sq ft house, so very happy with these as was the fire inspector.

I love the idea of not swapping (2) AA batteries twice a year (40 AA batteries over the ten year life of each detector) . I also liked the mounting options, but the single sheetrock anchor screw is very brittle. I broke it using a hand screwdriver - even when I drilled the 3/16" hole.

There is a button style center piece that is suppose to mount with a drywall tap anchor, the anchor broke off in the wall. Had to modify the piece as there is no other way to mount this unit. If you want to mount the unit with the light at the 12 o'clock position, as you would, there is no indicator on the position of the mounting bracket to ensure when you 1/4 turn the detector to the right to activate it and lock it in, the light is in the upright position. Bracket should be marked at top center to ensure when you mount it, it will be in the proper position. Light is amber, I guess to assist in night vision, but I doubt it will function as stated due to obscuration from smoke. Does not seem bright enough to offer any aid to escape.

My only complaint is the mounting system. To install, you have to mount a small, apx. 2" diameter adapter to the ceiling/wall, then place the smoke alarm on top of this and twist it in to place. The alarm is not activated until the adapter has been twisted on to the alarm the first time. Alignment is a bit of a pain. Other than the mounting / activation procedure, I am pleased with the unit.

They are also quite loud, when tested, so there's no doubt about being able to hear them. I have not had any instances of these going off for unnecessary reasons, such as taking a shower, or cooking, as the prior units did most of the time. I like the idea of the ten year battery life, so I'm apt to have them for quite a while, and consider them a good purchase.
