What happens after the ten year battery wears out? Do you throw the whole unit away and purchase another one?

Asked by: AngieAAB
yes, Angie, and only use UL / NFPA recommended ones. most retail outlets only sell them. also don't compromise price for quality ( its not worth the safety risk)

Is it wired into the house? Does it meet or exceed all building codes?
Asked by: Doug
10 years is pretty much the limit on the technology. ( much like a car or smart phone) they should be replaced at least after 10 yrs, or malfunction.) it is NOT recommended that you replace the power source at the end of that period, but replace the unit. most of us recommend that when you replace the device, place a date on the inside, so you, ( or if you move) the next occupant, knows when they were installed.

Where do you mount these alarms?

On the ceiling? Wall? Do they need to be up high in the room? Do you need an electrical source for them?

Do you receive voice alert as to type of alarm? How do you know if it is smoke or co2 alarming?

Asked by: Vic
As it states on the label on the back of the alarm: Smoke alarm is 3 long beeps, 1 second pause, repeating. CO2 alarm is 4 quick beeps, 1 second pause, repeating. In both cases, the led blinks in tandem with the sound beeps.

I purchased this smoke detector in Dec of 2014 at the Home Depot. Last night it went off at 2 AM for no reason. The "Hush" button did not "Hush" the chirping (3 long beeps, 1 second pause, repeating). After a half an hour, I finally disabled it with a screw driver on the back. This permanently disables the detector so now it is inoperable and can't be enabled again. I should have read the reviews before this purchase. I see this is a common problem with the P3010K-CO Kidde Smoke Detector.

Bought these at the end of May of 2016 and just today one of them started malfunctioning. The CO alarm was sounding for over an hour and we had to disable it permanently. We tested the other two alarms and both are in working order. We took the one with the alarm going off outside and it never quit so we disabled it. Kidde claims that it is a worry free 10 year battery but after under 6 months we already have to replace one. I have emailed kidde to let them know about our problem.

Did not last even 2 years!!!!! Luckily I have the receipt as this was for my rental unit and was part of a remodel. I imagine the company is banking on you will not remember when you bought it nor able to find your receipt after a couple years to hold them accountable.

Since installing Kidde alarms in my entire home after a remodel, they have gone off multiple times for no reason!!!! I've had to leave work because the alarms went off mid day. My poor dogs are completely traumatized to the point they now have panic attacks at any chirping noise. Kidde has zero customer support. Horrible quality!!!! DO NOT BUY!!!!

Just make sure you do not use gorilla strength when using the drywall screw. We had no issue, but other reviews mentioned how they broke during the install. Pre drill as recommended and you should have no problems. Can't say how well they work, but that's a good thing.

If the screws don't go in perfectly straight, and if they aren't absolutely flush with the bracket, then the alarm won't screw to the bracket. That bracket is plastic and easily broken if you are not careful.

The first Kiddie combination smoke/CO alarm I had lasted nearly ten years. This new style unit with the built-in battery didn't even last two. Very disappointing. Quality has gone downhill in the last several years. I won't buy this brand again.

I would recommend that the manufacturer replace the plastic screw with something more substantial that doesn't brake when it is used to install the unit. That was very frustrating.
