Hello Ben. Sometimes if the bracket is on a textured ceiling or wall or if the screws are tightened too much, the bracket will not hit the right switch to turn on the alarm even though it holds the alarm. Try this. You will need two small screwdrivers or small stylus for this. Take the bracket down and put it on the back of the alarm. On the bracket are 3 holes for the three silver screws. Put two screwdrivers into two of the holes and use that for leverage to rotate the bracket into the alarm. This should turn it on. Then use the screwdrivers again for leverage to rotate the bracket out of the alarm. The alarm should be on. Also, make sure the label on the back where it says "On" and "Off" has not been broken through. If the screwslot there has been turned, the unit has been permanently deactivated. If this doesn't turn on the alarm, please call us at Kidde Product Support at 1-800-880-6788 with the alarm and the bracket in hand and we will help you from there. Read Less

Answer:
Hello Vic. No, this alarm does not have a voice feature. This alarm will sound with sets of 3 long beeps to alarm for fire, or 4 quick beeps to alarm for carbon monoxide. These are also the sounds you will hear when you test the alarm. If you are looking for an alarm that also has a voice feature, please see Model # P3010CU. Thank you for your interest.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Feeling Safer I Love My Kidde Worry Free 10 Year Kitchen Sealed Lithium Battery Operate Combination Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarm...Feeling Safer Now Knowing My Family & I are Protected! September 6, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Absolute Piece of Junk My first Kidde smoke alarm lasted 9.5 years, never had a false alarm, so I didn't hesitate to purchase another and even spent a little extra on a 'kitchen' model. It is properly placed and actually in an area adjacent to the kitchen. In three weeks, I have had 12 false alarms. But the worst of it, is the PUSH TO HUSH button does not work. Once the thing goes off, you basically have to wait until it silences itself. May 12, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by These SUCK!! These smoke alarms suck!! They go off for no reason and once they go off you cannot get them to shut off without destroying them!! May 19, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Kitchen fume resistant The mounting ring on this unit is strange, only about the size of a USA 50 cent piece. (See attached photo of similar unit with same mounting system.) So they tried something different by having two different ways to mount it, one with traditional screws and anchors, and the other with a central drywall anchor screw. Neither gives me much confidence. To activate the unit, you have to give it a hard twist on the mounting system, and it felt like I was going to rip it right off the ceiling. I really would prefer a different, more traditional mounting system. Mounting issues aside, this unit is full of features. CO detection and kitchen fume resistance were why I got this unit. We have wired detectors in our house of ionization type, so the fact that this unit is photo-electric is a perfect complement for our kitchen area. The unit has passed our "broiler test" with flying colors. No more fanning the fumes from the detector. It can handle a few broiler fumes, no problem. I can't speak for the CO element. That's something I hope to never test. It is comforting to have as a second CO unit in our house. July 6, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Yay, no battery replacements!!! I like that the battery is sealed & stated as 10 years. That eliminates the reality of me forgetting to change the battery every daylight savings time change. Installation of the detector was very easy, just a few screws in the ceiling. No malfunctions yet as other reviewers have stated. July 4, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by No Battey-change smoke detector Very unique and at the same time advantageous. What is better than a smoke detector that has a battery that lasts 10 years, also the time that the sensor lasts in any detector. Ingenious. I placed one directly outside the furnace room, outside my son's bedroom. June 17, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointment I thought that it would have been nice feature of no battery replacements, however, after two years of having it at my house I've had nothing but problems. In the last two weeks it is beeped consistently every 30 to 60 seconds. The sound is very faint and you're not able to determine where it's coming from. After ruling out everything else in my house I've determined that it was the smoke detector. I attempted to call the customer service department because I was surprised that my two-year-old smoke detector would be needing a battery replacement. I was not able to get a hold of the service department because the hours are 8 to 5 EST. When I went to call during my lunch break I was told to call back when I have the product in my hand to be able to troubleshoot. Considering this product is $50 it's definitely not worth the money I spent on it It. According to their user manual when this beeping occurs it means a battery has faded and the only way to get rid of the sound is to drain the battery hence making it disabled . I do not recommend this product . January 12, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Junk After 6 months it started going off at random, tested against other monitors there is no smoke, no CO. Even going off outdoors.junk. January 17, 2016
