The best, & quickest way to answer it is thus: put one in every room, which is the answer in the instructions. I think that is a bit much. One in the kitchen, one in each bedroom, one in the stairway to the cellar and the home heating furnace, seems more like it. In my own house, I have just one; in the stairway between the two bedrooms and the wood fired stove on the 1st level. There is a square foot Read More

We have a small one-story ranch (1260 sf), and placed in the middle of the house. Based on past experience, we fully expect this to be all we need for our house size. It doesn't say how many sf or cu ft it would cover, but the fire dept. told us years ago that one average size level usually requires one detector, with two or more levels or stories requiring one on each floor. I imagine a McMansion would Read More

It comes with a set of screws and drywall anchors. All you do is drill a hole, insert the anchors. The back of the device has a plate that has the holes for the installation. It comes off. Easy way is to remove the plate, screw it in to the anchors and then slide the device into place. Very sturdy.

Answer:
Hello Al. No, alarms meant for an RV have to meet different UL codes than alarms meant for a residential house. They have to be more rugged and meet different temperature ranges. If you want an alarm for an RV, you will need to go to an RV accessory store to purchase one. We are Kidde Product Support at 1-800-880-6788. Thank you for your interest

Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 48 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Worry Free This carbon monoxide alarm provides protection without the worry of changing batteries. October 4, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Easy installation went onto the wall fairly easily. Does not start detecting until back plate is attached so battery not used prior to installation, which was clever. I'm still alive so I guess it must be working. September 29, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Detector the detector was simple to install and easy to use. September 13, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Does the job Seems to work as it should. It lit up so it works. Only way for sure is if, hopefully never happens, there carbon monoxide in the air. Until then, it looks like it is working fine. Only reason I needed it was to be approved for a refinance, so it pretty much did the job for me. August 23, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good purchase We needed to replace our old carbon monoxide alarms, but didn't know it would be this easy. The HD associate was very helpful in explaining the differences between the old alarms we were replacing and the new alarms we were purchasing. One big difference is that the new products no longer need batteries, so we don't have to go through that twice-a-year 9-V battery replacement in our alarms. These alarms are good for ten years and will provide us with peace of mind after having had a previous carbon monoxide incident. Don't wait. Get yours today! May 3, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Piece of mind and 10 year battery. Great deal. Piece of mind and keeps on working for up to 10 years of continuous protection. I have an older heating system and also use a secondary heating unit which is a wood pellet stove in the family room over the winter months. I am always concerned about the possible buildup of the deadly carbon monoxide gas in my home. Better safe than sorry. This small wall mounted unit is easy to install and sets up as soon as you mount it on its wall mount. Two screws hold it in place and then let it do the work for up to the next ten years before the lithium battery wears out and replacement will be required of the alarm system.I mounted this unit in my living room. I like its modern sleek look and compact size. It is not an eyesore and placed in plain sight and can be heard from anywhere in my home should the alarm sound it can be heard to alert us of danger May 16, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Super easy install What an easy install it was! Just 2 screws into the back plate to the wall and slide the CO alarm in. That's it. Nothing difficult at all. With a 10-Year battery I don't have to worry about it. There is no battery to change when the battery does die out. You would just buy a replacement. A quick tip, make a calendar reminder on Google Calendar or whatever app you use to check on it 10 years from now. July 27, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent product Bought item online and had it picked up at another store in CA. Directions were clear. Daughter said it was easy to install. April 5, 2016
