We installed this in June and it went off this morning for no apparent reason. It was in the living room at 66 degrees, no exposure to steam or heat, windows were closed. The hush button didn't work so we had to break the seal. Is there a warranty or money back guarantee for this?

Answer:
Hello John. No, this alarm can not be used without the screws. To be properly mounted, the bracket has to be attached to the ceiling or to the wall within a foot of the ceiling and then the alarm has to go into the bracket to turn on the alarm and activate it. If we can help you further, we are Kidde Product Support at 1-800-880-6788. Thank you for your interest.

Will I have to replace the bases which are currently attached to my ceilings or can I just screw the new detectors into the existing/in place bases?

Answer:
Hello. In reference to your question, Dan is correct. This comes with a small circular mounting bracket that has a single center screwhole. This makes the bracket easy to install but the alarm will not work with your previous bracket. If you have any further questions about this, you can call us at 1-800-880-6788. Thank you for your interest.

Answer:
That would be nice! But, no the new unit comes with a small circular mounting bracket that also activate the unit when installed correctly. The new bracket has a single center hole screw mount, making the alignment easy to cover original spot. there are three outer ring screws to prevent the spinning effect. I used the center and one outer screw in my installations.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Do not buy Just disabled our second one built in April 2015. The first went off when our son was 9 months old in his room causing me to freak out since he was asleep in, there for the night. No smoke,no fire,no alarm saying the battery was dying, and couldn't be shut off. These units were purchased and installed at the same time,I'm happy to see them gone October 10, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Multiple 10 year Kidde alarms multiple false alarms and complete product failure Have bought several from Home Depot. Returned almost all for breaking within the first year. Now trying to figure out how to get yet another one fixed after another failure. Would never buy Kidde again. Too unreliable. October 10, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by The worst smoke alarm ever Bought 9/15/2016 no problems for 3 weeks was fine. I was in showerand the alarm went off the Hush button did not work. It beeped for 4 hours straight was no fire, smoke, or anything should have set the alarm off!could not turn it off!!! October 5, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Garbage I didn't even buy this junk but it came with my house. Maybe it might make a good door stop because that's about what it is now that it is permanently deactivated. September 15, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Do not buy! I bought two. I had one installed in the garage and the other one in the kitchen. A month later, at 3A.M, the one in the garage started with the awful noise. I got the ladder and, afraid, climbed on it and unscrewed the Kidde; it kept making noise and I took it to my bedroom to try to continue my sleep but the noise continued. I called Kidde and I was told a thunder may have triggered it. A month later the one in the kitchen started with the noise. Again, I had to climb the ladder, and unscrew it. This time Kidde blamed it on humidity. I asked for a refund-they do not give refunds. I called Home Depot and told them what I went through and the manager or Assistant Manager told me to take both to the store and gave me his name. I did and I got the refund. August 25, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Junk! I bought three of these when I bought my house in Nov 2014. The one in the basement had a false alarm a couple times. A few days ago the one in the hallway right outside my master bedroom activated at 3:00 AM! Scared the living daylights out of my cat and I! After searching the entire house doing a lap around the outside of the house determined it was another false alarm! I'm done with these and going to the 2nd generation Nest which seems to have all its bugs worked out. For areas of the house where Nest is not cost justifiable I am going with the old school First Alerts with replaceable batteries. According to many reviews I've read the 10 year sealed ones report more false alarms then the old style ones along with the 2nd gen Nest. August 16, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Get a different alarm 2 years ago I had 5 of these installed in my home. Purchased from Home Depot. I have since had 2 go off Falsely. During the night. Scaring us up and out only to be a false alarm signal. Get a better alarm system September 1, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Bad Product In a wheelchair by myself and I had two of them go off for no reason, and after taken then down could not make them stop not even the fire department until we destroyed them... Joeann of San Marino August 31, 2016
