Does the product list anywhere the year it will expire, or do you need to make note of this itself and/or just wait for the day it chirps on you?
Asked by: Dodo
There is a label on the outer edge of each unit, on which you can put the date put into service, so that information is available without searching.

Does the new alarm come with an adaptor to use my old firex wiring or do I have to re-wire the new one?

Asked by: Joe
I am not familiar with firex but as far as homes built after 1993, rewiring is not needed for this smoke alarm.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Multiple 10 year Kidde alarms multiple false alarms and complete product failure Have bought several from Home Depot. Returned almost all for breaking within the first year. Now trying to figure out how to get yet another one fixed after another failure. Would never buy Kidde again. Too unreliable.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do not buy Just disabled our second one built in April 2015. The first went off when our son was 9 months old in his room causing me to freak out since he was asleep in, there for the night. No smoke,no fire,no alarm saying the battery was dying, and couldn't be shut off. These units were purchased and installed at the same time,I'm happy to see them gone

It decided to go off and would not stop. There was no smoke, no steam, no cooking, NO reason for it to go off. It even went off in a plastic bag after I took it down. Thinking I just had a bad one, I went to Home Depot and got another. It didn't even go 24 hours without doing the exact same thing. There is nothing weird about my house and, once again, no smoke, no steam, no cooking, no reason for it to go off. It took it back and got a refund. I bought a Code One smoke alarm, with a 10 yr. battery and it has been working fine. I was a little worried when I saw they were made by Kidde, but so far so good. And the Code One alarm was about $10 less in cost.

I bought this product to replace a unit that started beeping because it was 'too old'. This was the closest model to what I was replacing, so I hoped that it would use the same type mounting bracket. Of course that didn't happen. The new bracket is about an inch and a half in diameter, so it won't mount on my popcorn covered ceiling. I had to make a spacer to move the bracket far enough from the ceiling for the alarm to attach. What could have been a couple of minute replacement became an hour ordeal. Since these units now are only good for ten years, and can't be repaired, it would be nice if the manufactures would at least keep the mounting system the same to simplify reinstallation. I don't know why they set me up with a 3-Pack since I only bought one alarm.

The time came to replace our old smoke detectors as they had reached their expiration date. We switched out from a poor quality brand (not worth mentioning the name) and replaced all of our smoke detectors with the Kidde FireX smoke detectors. Our detectors are inter-connected, so we needed to go with the inter-connectable model. Installation was very straight forward. First we turned the breaker off for the smoke detectors then went to each room and removed the old unit. Once removed, we attached the new mounting plate to the screws in the junction box and secured it in place. Next came the wiring. Since our smoke alarms are inter-connected, we had to use the red wire as well. The wiring was very straight forward: black to black, white to white, and red to red after removing the small plastic cap on the red wire on the smoke alarm. Once everything was wired, we attached the smoke alarm to the mounting plate. Since these smoke alarms have the front loading 9 volt battery, we should not have to detach the smoke alarm from the mounting plate. This is a great design feature, because the more you handle the unit, the more chances you have of dust and particles from getting inside of it and causing it to malfunction. If you never have to remove the unit to replace the battery (like in the old models where the battery access was in the back), you greatly reduce the risk of your units going bad early. Hopefully, we won't have to remove these smoke detectors until they need to be replaced in 10 years.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Hate replacing the batteries - not really as easy as sliding in front door The i2060 product installs pretty easily. I have had it for two battery changes - guessing that means 3 years or so, cannot remember exactly. I HATE HATE HATE when I have to replace the batteries. I got the front door option so I didn't have to pull the thing down. I have ceilings that are over 12 feet tall. But when I simply replace the battery it still beeps. Only when I turn off the breaker, pull the thing down, disconnect it and then put it all back together does it shut up. This stupid alarm drives me mad. I would replace the thing except I'm out of town right now and having to talk someone else through this nightmare.

Alarm sounds - no reason. Cannot be shut off. One lasted 5 months, the second 14 months, the last 25 months. Not nearing 10 year claim. No more Kidde products for us.
