CA approved? Compatible with Kidde 1276 wiring harness & mounting bracket?

Two questions:
1. Is this combo smoke + CO alarm on the current "List of California State Fire Marshal Approved Carbon Monoxide Alarms and Detectors and Smoke Alarms"? I couldn't find it on the list, but I'm not sure I have the current list.
2. I would like to replace all of my old Kidde 1276 interconnected smoke detectors. Are the wiring harnesses the same? Are the mounting brackets the same?

I recently replaced on of my 1276 smoke detectors with a combo KN-COSM-IBA unit and it was completely compatible (interconnected, same wiring harness, same mounting bracket). But, it's not on the CA list because it has AA battery backup.

Thanks.

Use in an attached garage?

Is this unit suitable for use in an attached garage? The temperature range of the garage (unheated) exceeds the range in the product specification. The previous owner disabled the alarm--it was a Kiddie 1276. Since the detector was hard-wired, I assume it was correctly placed, per the fire code.

Answer:
Hello JMH. Per NFPA 72, smoke alarms can not go in garages. Smoke detectors will tend to have nuisance alarms and other issues due to the heat, cold, insects, dust, and exhaust from the car, as it sounds like the previous owner found out. The only thing we have for a garage is a heat detector, Model # HD135F, Internet #100594387, Store SKU #146421. We are Kidde Product Support at 1-800-880-6788.

Answer:
Hello Randall. No. The 21010625 wireless smoke and carbon monoxide alarm will only interconnect with other alarms of the same model. To use this alarm, all of the alarms would have to be this model. We are Kidde Product Support at 1-800-880-6788. Thank you for your interest.

Worry Free Hardwired 120-Volt Interconnected Combination Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm with 10-Year Battery Backup is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 67.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looking forward to 10 years of not replacing batteries at 2am. They installed easily in the ceiling mounts of the original smoke alarms.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product The item may be a bit pricey, but as far as I'm concerned, this should be the only kind of smoke detector in existence. Considering how many homes that have the type of alarms that need to change batteries every six months, the millions of batteries that then get thrown away every six months, is just ridiculous. If you already have hard wired smoke detectors, just replace them with these (but make sure you get these that are also hard wired adaptable). Then just leave them alone until it's time to replace the whole unit in ten years!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from DON'T purchase unless you have identical brands in your house If you have other AC powered smoke alarms and they're a different brand, DON'T purchase this item. It will chirp 'FIRE' every 5-mins... I tried two of them and found they did identical things. I later found out that all the other units MUST BE Kiddie brand otherwise it'll alert you. It doesn't play well with others. Kiddie tech support was VERY helpful as the instructions were vague in this area.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Battery DOA Purchased 2 of these unit, one of the packages was beeping non-stop (still in packaging). Once I installed it, which a bit of a trail because of where the old alarm was, the unit said battery something or other. According to the packaging this battery should have a 10 year life, will it didn't even have a few minutes. The other unit so far so good but I'm wary of the unit, again too much of a pain to remove if not absolutely necessary. Notice other feedback says units batteries are also DOA. This one of the most expensive units available at HD. Battery should be protected until actually installed then activated, pull-tab or something like that.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Failures Installed five of these. Two kept beeping no matter what we did (returned them). 1 went off for no reason, a day after installation (12 feet up in the middle of the night). Two seem to be working, but for all we know they'll go off at some random time like the first one. Other reviewers had similar troubles, but we took a chance on these because this model seems to be the only one that combines 10-year, smoke and carbon monoxide, plus hard-wired. Home Depot needs to find another brand or pressue Kidde to improve this dud.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from 66% failure rate? I bought 9 of these to replace all of the existing Firex smoke detectors in my house. They were 15 years old, and way past their design life. I chose these for 3 reasons: 1) They were hardwired, which I prefer for long lasting detectors, 2) They have 10 year sealed lithium batteries that never need replacement (I despise 2am battery beeps) 3) They said they were dual sensor and included a CO detector. They get a 1-star rating for a few reasons: 1) The first I installed gave me a low battery warning 1 minute after the first test. I reset the alarm, and it did it again. I checked the codes in the manual, and this indicated a faulty detector, and said I should call Kidde to get a replacement. I wasn't going to do that on a brand new purchase. 2) I replaced the first installed unit with one of the 8 remaining I had. It worked fine, so I packaged up the faulty unit with the mounting disc and wiring harness from the first. 3) I installed 2 more. Both gave the low battery alarm. Multiple resets got one of them working... for now. I used another spare to swap out the 2nd faulty unit. At this point, I had 3 working and 2 faulty units. 4) I installed the next two units. Both faulty, despite repeated resets. Ditto with the 2 I tried to swap in. Ditto with the next two, despite repeated resets and tests. 5) More research let me see that despite the Home Depot comment that they are "Dual-Sensor", that referred to "smoke and CO", not "photoelectric and ionization". That's my bad... I should have figured that out. So, the real reason for the rating is the 66% failure rate. 6 out of 9 were bad. I searched for a better option at the local Home Depot and found none. At this cost per unit, I expected better. I ordered 3 Nest 2.0 hardwired detectors online, and will try those. They are much more expensive, but they do photoelectric, ionization and CO, and despite needing battery replacements, they will tell you before 2am, and you can hush them with your phone if needed. I really wanted to like these Kidde detectors, but there is a serious QA problem.

I replaced an existing Kidde hard wired smoke only alarm with the combination unit. The replacement was an exact plug & play fit for the existing smoke only unit . Both Smoke and Carbon Monoxide alarms tested fine and there were no negative effects to the other smoke only units located in other areas of the house. This was an easy upgrade and I will start replacing the other smoke only alarms were needed.

Easy to install and I like the idea of not having the annoying chirping noise every few years due to spent batteries. I installed two alarms in my condo and within ten minutes one alarm starting giving a low battery indication. I exchanged this item to Home Depot and the replacement alarm works just fine.
