Customer Questions & Answers

How does this hold up in the rain and light amounts of snow?

Asked by: Vern
Good if you anchor it right. This comes with plastic feet which are junk. So what i did was buy two 10' long conduits (electrical poles) that were just the right diameter to slip the canopy poles onto. I cut the conduit into 30" long sections and drove those into the ground about 18" deep leaving 12" above ground to slip the canopy poles on to. Then i used self taping screws at ALL the pole connections so nothing slips out including the top and side poles. The additional cost for conduit poles and screws was about $30. It held up like this for about 5 years then last year there was golf ball size hail that put only a couple holes in the canopy. It wasn't too bad considering it was the worst hail here in years, then a few weeks ago there was a wind storm with VERY VERY strong winds that finally ripped all the grommets out along one side. It had done fine during other strong storms but this was exceptionally bad and lasted hours. I was actually worried it was going to pull the poles out of the ground and blow the whole thing into my neighbors house but it didnt. I ended up cutting the tarp down during the storm before anything worse happened. I'm now looking for a replacement cover. The frame has a little rust but still as stable as the day i put it up.

Do you have to use rope to tie it out or is it self standing for temporary shelter? I don't have space to pull out ropes without tripping hazard

Asked by: Kelly
It is self standing.

DO THEY INSTALL IT?

CAN'T INSTALL IT BY MYSELF
Asked by: LUBICA77
I'm sure Home Depot will have it installed for you; however, it is not difficult to install the product yourself. I would suggest buying additional anchors and tie downs.. It took me about 45mns to install the unit...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from OK boat cover for the money, but I greatly improved it... I couldn't find any high-quality 10x20 boat covers. This one from HD for $170 is ok, but it needs to be greatly strengthened to withstand the wind and weather. The kit includes 24 pieces of 1-3/8 inch steel pipe in 68" and 52" lengths, plus nine 3-way and 4-way connector pieces to join the pipes, plus 50 ball straps, 6 plastic foot pads, and 1 medium-weight 10x20 tarp. The instructions are minimal but it's not hard to figure out and follow the illustrations. The pipes and connectors slide together, but there are no screws or bolts to fasten them together. To strengthen the whole shelter, I slid a piece of 1.25" PVC tube over each steel pipe, after cutting a couple of slits in the PVC, then used stainless hose clamps to tighten the PVC down on the pipe. (I copied this idea from an earlier reviewer!) I drilled 3/8-inch holes at each connector and fastened each connection w/ a 3/8" stainless steel bolt. In total I purchased over 100' of PVC tubing plus (24) 2-inch hose clamps and (32) stainless steel 3/8" bolts (plus nutss and washers). I anchored one side of the whole thing at each leg to an adjacent fence and the other side at each leg with 24" rebar driven into the ground. It's not going anywhere. Extra costs totaled about $130. Plus I purchased a second 10x20 tarp for another $30 for when the original wears out likely within 6 months. It looks ok and does the job. I'm satisfied with the end result, but it required a bit of extra time and cost buying the extra materials and building in the extra strength.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good materials, great product The tent is made out of metal poles and is very sturdy. It makes a great carport! It is perfect if you live in a semi-arid or desert area and do not want to bake every time you get in your vehicle, not to mention the damage the sun does to your car! It was easy to assemble. I had mine shipped, the box was pretty heavy (75 lbs). I can't believe my carrier got it to the door. If you can't move the box just take it apart where it sits. The individual parts are fairly light and easy to handle. I had to buy anchors seperately. I could not sink anchors into the concrete I have on one side, so I bought 2 large concrete piers and put a long bolt horizontally through the holes in the piers metal fasteners, and then was able to tie down the tent to the bolts.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far so good............ My son and I put it up in about 45 minutes. Lay the parts out first and follow directions. (Illustrations could have been a little more detailed) Very happy about the sturdiness of the frame and cover. Looks great against the house in the driveway. Only been up about 3 weeks and have had a couple hard rains. Exactly what I was looking for. Great price.
