can the stopper be used to enable one to fill sink with water and soak items in it?

I am replacing Insinkerator unit which will not allow me to hold water in the sink with its stopper. Please tell me if your product will seal off the drain to be able use the sink and fill with dishwater??

Customer Reviews

1 HP Batch Feed Garbage Disposal is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 23.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Improved switch design This unit replaced two similar KitchenAid waste disposals both failed with the same problem. The new units were both installed under KitchenAid warranty. The previous units used a magnetic switch but the new unit has a more positive (mechanical, I believe?) switch. It's too early to see if it is more durable, but keeping fingers crossed. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Garbage & Water Won't Drain WARNING: Kitchen Aid recently changed the design of this disposer. Online documentation shows 6-11/16" from bottom of sink to centerline of water discharge but the new design is 9-1/4". The new disposers have 3" long black plastic extension between the disposer and mounting ring. If your plumbing drain is not low enough (like mine) some of the garbage and water will sit inside the disposer and not drain. Even worse, Kitchen Aid support does not yet have any info about this. Can't use kitchen sink or dishwasher now! This could be the same issue across the entire product line. See attached picture showing the 3" extension

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't waste your money!!!!! I just installed this and realized there is s little space in the chamber. Half of what my last kitchen aid had. Then there is a rubber shield like a continuous feed would have that now you have to push food down with your hand or something. Then there's the plastic stopper that you need to flip over to plug the sink, which doesn't work. I can her the still draining. Kitchen aid failed on this one. I really wish I could return this, so unhappy. Want my old one back. Was going to buy a kitchen aid dishwasher this weekend, won't be now.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from No improvement over previous model. We purchased early February, as our previous KA model would not "turn on and sometimes would not stop" working. This "new" model does not have the same capacity to accept garbage (have to stuff it down by hand) and the "stopper" will not allow any residue garbage to enter unit while running. The holes are too small. This stopper is made of plastic, while our previous was metal. We are sorry KA discontinued make our previous model, as it was a 100 times more effective in doing the job. Very disappointed in this "new" model.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Cheap Rusting Parts on Top of The Line Model Over last two years found cheap steel parts rusting in our sink. They fell off this 'top of thie line' machine. Paid almost $500 only to find this 'best' made product has hidden cheap parts. Why they saved pennies using cheap rustable metal instead of stainless steel is beyond me. Called KA and told: Oh, sorry you are too late, your warranty ran...very sad. Paid top dollar expecting quality only to find they hide the cheap parts inside where you can't see them till they fail. Seen this with other Kitchen Aid stuff...maybe they are just licensing the Kitchen Aid name. And KA, why did the part and your warranty die at the same time? You made your name with your Kitchen Mixers, you are losing your name with sort of shoddy components.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from So much "For the way it's made" First off let me say the unit is very quite and has good power. The rest all I can say is poor execution. I am left disappointed in the magnetic start. It is tough to make in-gauge sometime don't work at all and the stopper don't plug water. So if you wish to fill the sink with water you are going to have to find a stopper that will work. The stopper they do have is made of plastic. Yes PLASTIC... Why would they take one of there premium models($400 range) and cheap out on the stopper. my old one was a different brand 3/4 hp cost 20% of what this one did but came with a chrome stopper and it actually stopped water. The good news is I was able to get a chrome off-brand stopper that fits well at my local parts store for like $10 retail. If I want to use the disposer I will have to use the plastic one that trips the magnetic switch and use the new one when I wish to plug the sink. All said the unit is subject to a ongoing issue Kitchen Aid has. Premium pricing and cheapening product. I understand the need to stay competitive in pricing but a $400 disposer is high up the line and should have the quality trim level to go with it. It's like buying a BMW 7 series with hubcaps. At this price point nobody is concerned if the price needed to be a few dollars higher as long as the product had the correct fit and finish.
