I'm concerned about the release of toxic fumes, whether you can smell them or not.

Answer:
This unit does not have a ceramic interior. The material is a proprietary formula, which is FDA approved. It is not telfon or PFTE, PFOE and is not harmful to birds.

12 in. Convection Countertop Oven in Stainless Steel is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 653.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from So close, but not quite perfect I bought this to replace a DeLonghi countertop oven I'd loved for years but sadly it died. I so wanted to love this thing. But, two things confound me and I have to believe it was an engineer who's never cooked so much as a pop tart that came up with the idea to 1) not include an interior light and 2) require you to push the Start button when the thing is done preheating. The latter "feature" is killing me. Killing. Me. I want to huck this thing into the street and buy something else (and this puppy wasn't cheap). Every time I use this oven to bake/roast/cook something other than toast, I have to stop what I'm doing or - even worse - hang around the kitchen waiting for the thing to finish preheating to press that everloving Start button, or else the stupid thing shuts off altogether. How this is a "feature" I'll never understand. I have a regular oven that just beeps when it's preheated, and an additional light goes on next to a label that says "Pre-heated." BLAM - preheated - no further involvement required from me. I can choose to put the food into the oven before it's done preheating, or wait until it's preheated - whatever works for me. But with this oven, I suppose it's trying to make sure I am fully aware of the complete 'preheatedness' and am completely cognizant of placing my food into a fully preheated oven with the added step of having to physically press that Start button, otherwise, I could put food into a lukewarm oven and ruin my dinner. KitchenAid, whoever decided this was a good idea should be fired. Last night's dinner actually was almost ruined because it took about 15 minutes for the oven to fully preheat, and I missed pressing that stupid Start button twice because - brace yourselves - I had other things I needed to do (like finish work) and wasn't in the kitchen when the oven finished preheating, so it just turned itself off. I ended up having to stand there, watching it preheat, waiting for it to tell me to "press Start." Hate this thing.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from amazing oven that DOES NOT LAST. SHORT LIFE EXPECTANCY. bought this 2 years ago. Amazing little oven. works wonderfully. everything i cooked and baked came out to near perfection . exceeded my expectations in every way EXCEPT for quality (longevity). This oven gave out on me in less than 2 years. Toaster feature still works, but oven only works when its in the mood. This is shameful. Exactly the same story with my kitchen aid mixer i purchased 7 years ago. it lasted only 18 months. As man products these days, they are designed to last a very short time, so they can get right back into your pocket for more money. It appears you can't even purchase any meaningful repairs parts for these appliances. Just toss it into the garbage, and give us some more of your money. Thanks kitchen aid. Last time I will get fooled into buying one of your products.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This is a nice appliance, but how it preheats is maddening I like and would recommend the product, but how it preheats is maddening. I want to put my food in, set the timer and walk away, but you can't It enters a preheat cycle, then you have to push the start button again, once it is preheated. If you don't push the start button again, it shuts off. Why can't this work like a regular oven, where it preheats, signals you that it is at temperature and it continues??

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Happy with my Convection Oven As a convection oven this is the best. The only additional features they've come out with is a digital read-out panel which adds $100 to the price. The controls are a bit hard to read because of the shiny knobs. The biggest drawback is the time it takes to toast. Don't buy if you are going to just toast bread. Use the preheat suggested in the manual to speed up the process. We love not having to heat up the stove's oven and the convection makes it fast. We are two retired folks that will be enjoying this oven for a long time! Rated 5 out of 5 by from More versatile than my stove oven I've used it for a few weeks now and it works like a charm. I've baked, broiled and toasted with great results. The 2 changes I would recommend for future ovens would be to make the lettering on the dials easier to read. I've used both my kitchen overhead and a flashlight and the lettering gets washed out and very difficult to read. And the second addition would be a light inside the oven (the DeLongi that this oven replaced had a small light in the back that helped a lot.) [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I have to say I am disappointed in this toaster oven. I found it not user friendly. The dial readings are very hard to see. It looks good but everything on the dials are the same Crome Color and you can't see what temperature or time setting you're on. Takes a long time to pre heat and the timer started making noise a week after I bought it and I had only used it half a dozen time. It's going back today. I am very disappointed as I love my other kitchenaid products I have and was looking forward to this . [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Happy! The old toaster oven was just not doing it for me anymore! I went on line and researched the different products. I got this through my credit card points. It was included in the list available through the points. It was rated 3rd out of 10 on a couple of the websites I went to. So back to the heading...I'm happy! Very happy. This has been a great unit for roasting, baking, toasting and cooking pizza. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
