Customer Questions & Answers

What is the black cooktop material? Glass or something else? Is it easy to clean?

Asked by: kkjs
The black shows every spec of food and grease. But it cleans just as well as any other cooktop.

Is there a broiler function inside the oven?

Asked by: AH
AH, Yes model has both a conventional broiling function and a convection broiling function. Please click on the "Use and Care Manual" link on this product page for detailed information.

Is the oven only convection? Or is it both standard and convection?

Asked by: cake
It is neither. Mine doesn't actually work and it is nearly impossible to schedule repairs during the warranty period, as the website is only periodically functional, it takes a very long time on hold to reach a customer service agent, and even they don't have access to a working computer system for scheduling service.

controls / clock

are there digital controls and clock on top front?
Asked by: Paddy
Yes, digital controls. They are very explicit in providing instructions, but the only ones I receive tell me to shut down the oven due to a cryptic error code.

After owning this range now for several months I'd like to share my experiences and the pros and the cons. Let's start with the nice things. It looks really good, like a million dollars! I enjoy the large cooking surface and the 5 burners. The large burners provide enough heat for a good sear and the smaller ones are nice for simmering and smaller pots. The convection oven is nice to keep an even heat around the cooking goods and while baking. I love the proofing option which comes in handy when I'm baking bread. For bread making the steam bake option is also very nice. All in all this oven has some nice features. Now to the not so nice things. Let's start with the large burners. They are powerful but due to the large circumference they create a "ring of fire" while leaving the center of the pot or skillet colder. Now this is an expensive appliance. I don't expect the same performance as I would from a professional range or the likes but why can't they put center fire on the large burners? Is that too much to ask for. It's just a few additional holes! The other annoying thing about the burners is how the knobs adjust the flow of gas. I don't know who designed these valves but when you start turning them down from high to medium at first almost nothing happens, then it turns down very quick and the end of the adjustment range is basically worthless. Without looking under the pot you basically have no idea where you at with the heat. Next the temperature of the oven. I've done several tests with several different thermometers and the oven temperature is always lower than indicated on the control panel. At 500 deg Fahrenheit and after heating up for 30 mins the thermometer still shows only 450 F [see picture]. I used to have a cheap range that was more accurate and in addition it went up to 550 F. Since I like to make pizza on a pizza stone the high temp is needed but I can't get there. It's quite dissatisfying. Next the close to worthless steam self cleaning option where one has to pour water on the bottom for cleaning. I did that and the result was that I had to grab a scrubber and some foam cleaning spray to get the job done. Again, the cheap range had pyro cleaning which was simple and worked like a charm. The storage drawer at the bottom is probably the flimsiest thing I've ever seen. I wobbles and jiggles when you pull it out. Sometimes it's hard to push it back in because it jams. Not up to par with its price tag. Lastly a serious concern about the outside temperature of the oven. When I bake a pizza at 500 F the outside gets so hot that I can't touch it anymore. I measured, using a digital infrared thermometer, temps up to 165 F at the oven door and the control panel. I don't know who designed this range but this is a severe design flaw. During pyro cleaning at 650 F my old range stayed cooler on the outside. This is a serious safety concern because my 6 year old granddaughter is not used to oven doors that she can't touch. Hope she never gets hurt ...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Affordable scaled down gourmet range I love to cook, and I love to cook with gas. While double wall ovens are all-the-rage at the moment, they take up too much cabinet space and they all seem to be electric. Boo! And those gargantuan 48" commercial gas ranges are prohibitively pricey. The KitchenAid convection range looks sophisticated, performs flawlessly and is sensibly priced...all without taking up too much of my precious kitchen real estate. In fact, for the sake of continuity, we went with all KitchenAid appliances and wow, our kitchen looks professional and stylish with matching handles, stainless steel, badges etc. Very pleased. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Function mixed with Style This range is great! It gives you the commercial look with out the added space needed if you are updating your kitchen! very user friendly with lots of features. The only drawback I have noticed is the storage drawer in the bottom is small. Best for cookie sheets but not bulky items. Cooks evenly, starts quickly! I am so excited to have added this to my kitchen! Easy to clean as well! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Ordered from Home Depot, it arrived and the touch panel didnt work and left burner. i have been a loyal Kitchen Aid customer but this has me questioning the quality. Home Depot will not take it back because I called during the 49th hour of their return policy, you only get 48 hours; so now i am waiting 3 weeks+ for service parts. So a repairman has to tear apart a brand new stove?? This isnt right or fair to the consumer.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from horrible to clean This oven has an aqualift cleaning system INSTEAD of self cleaning which I did not realize until I tried to clean it. It does NOT work. I called customer service and was told I have to get on my hands and knees and use a rubber scrapper to get off stuck on dirt in order for aqualift to work. I am over 70 years old and can only get on my hands and knees with great difficulty, but since I am slightly obsessive about a clean oven I tried it but I couldn't get it clean and I am a very neat cook who hardly uses her oven so I think it is horrible and does not work. If I knew I would NOT have bought this model. I move a lot and have always bought Kitchen aid ovens before but never again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Range looks great and works well. I like the range but the grill is a challenge to lift up and clean. It works well. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Love this oven The oven is great: responsive, heats quickly, and heat is evenly distributed. Everything cooks evenly. The stove top is less satisfactory. The power burner is not great except that it has a simmer feature. None of the other burners have that. Center tiny burner is just a waste of space. Also stovetop is not easy to clean. I have cooked on a Viking and a Wolf and owned a DCS for many years. Perhaps it is unfair to compare the KitchenAid. But then I have also cooked on electric induction burners and found them more effective. Very disappointing. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hot Number Honey! Part of our kitchen renovation-Love this stove! Really works great-love having 5 burners-you have to be careful with the high BTU burner though! The large grates that are on top of the stove are cool too-it can be used for task area and also it fits my cast iron grill really good! So nice to be able to have a large oven that my large cookie sheets can fit in! I do wish they had on the control area an indicator that the stove is on like the indicator that the oven has- This Stove makes me want to cook too much! Trolling recipe sites!
