Answer:
missy, Yes cast iron can be used. You may want to be a bit careful, however, in sliding the pan around on the top as some cast iron has a rough bottom surface which might mark the top.

Answer:
GibManFive,
You don't have to use a range hood or exhaust system. That would be up to your preference to potential odors, smoke and local codes. But, this cooktop does not require one. Thank you for viewing this KitchenAid appliance.

30 in. Ceramic Glass Electric Cooktop in Black with 4 Elements including Tri-Ring and Double-Ring Elements is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 103.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great features I purchased this cook top along with other Kitchenaid appliances for my newly remodeled kitchen. I am happy with the features, the way it looks, and the way it cooks. The only downside to this cooktop is that it is very hard to clean. I would recommend purchasing the scraper that Kitchenaid suggests and clean with non-abrasive cream cleaner. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cooking the Star Trek Way Cooking in the Star Trek generation is wonderful! No more knobs, everything is touch control. It took a couple of days to get used to using the controls, but it's the most simple way to cook. You can set the exact temperature you want without guessing. Easy cleanup! Rated 1 out of 5 by from 30" Electric Cooktop This is my 2nd KitchenAid Cooktop so I had great expectations. Unfortunately, this model is hard to keep clean. For one example, following directions, I immediately wiped up the oil spatter after a piece of cauliflower skipped out of the pan containing the stir fry I was in the process of preparing. Bits of the dish cloth (that I had successfully been using for a number of years) stuck to the element and it took many concerted efforts to remove. Learning from that experience, I subsequently waited until the element cooled before wiping the cooktop. Unfortunately, that meant discolored circles and, again, took many attempts to remove. My last KitchenAid model still looked like new even after 10 years. Another issue is the temperature of the elements; the displayed number and the heat emanating are not in sync. '7' is not the same temperature as I have previously experienced. Yesterday I cooked eggs and it took a long while for the water to reach a boil. The bottom line is that I did not get the quality I was expecting or that I paid for [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from clean modern look, solid standard features considered opting for higher end induction stove top but didnt really need that. this one is conventional but very nice and looks great paired with the KA retractable downdraft vent which works best with the 2 back elements but much better than the jenn-air downdraft that it replaced. gave 3 stars for sound level of the vent (i had to go with downdraft) which is loud on the higher sttings [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Electric Cooktop We bought our new cooktop three months ago and we are totally satisfied with it. We keep wondering why we waited so long. I especially like the controls allowing a simmer and keep warm with no worries about food boiling over or sticking. It is so easy to clean and looks great all the time. Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love it I bought this because I wanted the smooth cooktop for easy cleaning, with no knobs to clean around. It is a breeze to keep clean! I use a cooktop cleaner and a razor to scrape off residue. It is just as gleaming as the day it was installed! Even after frying on it, the grease residue comes right off! I am also happy that I can still use my cast iron cookware on it! I had heard that you could not use cast iron on a smooth top cooktop, but that is not true! I have 3 skillets that are cast iron and they all work very well on this cooktop and do not scratch!! The cooktop works wonderfully! The power burners work great when you need heat fast. The only small thing that I wish was different is that the burner markings are difficult to see on the surface so sometimes my pan is not on the center of the burner because I can't see the markings well. Overall, I could not be happier with this and am so glad I got it! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don,t like it Hate my new cooktop, small burners on the back, behind the big burner, very uncomfortable to use, surface gets dirty fast and hard to clean, if place something hot on top of the controls it shuts down, don't recomend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No knobs and High Teck This cook top replaced one with knobs. The smooth look and high tech features are wonderful. It heats evenly and quickly; then reminds you which burners are still hot after cooking. Easy clean up and pleasant to the eye on our exposed 25 foot island counter.
