Answer:
Honestly, I'd say it's more than counter depth (read my review here). You can't really call something counter depth if it protrudes beyond a standard counter and has to because of its lacking design without articulating hinges.

Rated 2.5 out of 5 by 13 reviewers.
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not really "built-in"; for the money it should be. KitchenAid: I think it's misleading, bordering on deceptive, to call this product "built-in" or even "counter depth" for that matter. The hinges don't articulate like you might expect on a top-of-the-line model and as such you've designed it to protrude beyond the run of cabinets, beyond even the counter. Hast to be like that to allow the doors to open in its present design. Many of us buy this product, having seen so many pictures of truly-built-in refrigerators only to be stuck with the product and an imperfect kitchen. It's interesting that you don't have any pictures of this product in actual installations from the side. You've been in business for how long and you still can't get this basic thing right?? Anybody, you can Google for images, but I have attached one here. We built our entire cabinets following KitchenAid's own dimensional specifications. You can see the result. Looks like it was poorly planned, thanks to KitchenAid. I do have bigger fish to fry. Which is what angers me about having to deal with this. June 26, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by DO NOT BUY!!! 4 months old and motherboard is done and has more issues. I want the fridge replaced and KitchenAid says no as they want to have it repaired. Repair technician compared it to an engine going bad in a brand new car and recommended a new fridge over getting it repaired. If a repair shop is recommending to not repair it then you know it is bad. If I could do it all over again I would not but this fridge. If you have $9k for a fridge, get a reliable one and not a KitchenAid. September 29, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by DOA Hard to say if I would recommend. Arrived with freezer DOA. Took 2 weeks for Kitchenaid to agree to replace. Replacement seems to work but not enough time to evaluate [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] September 25, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by We Love our Refrigerator We got ours about 3 months ago, and now I am painting the inside of house. In the kitchen now and went to move frig but it is not on rollers and this thing is huge going to need a couple of bodybuilders to move it for me. But we still love it and would buy another one. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by 2yr old fridge gone without repairs for 2months 2year old fridge now broke down without repair. Declared non reparable September 21, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Appliance We remodeled our entire kitchen a year ago and had this refrigerator installed. I love it. It looks beautiful and has plenty of room. It's a little inconvenient that you have to open the left door if you need something in the right drawers, but it's not a major problem. August 31, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Well equipped fridge but misses in just a few areas We had a 42" built in fridge and wanted the bottom freezer drawer, so you really are just down to looking at the Subzero ($11K), True ($16K), Jenn-Air ($9K)or this model. In that group, this model provides the best value. Things that are great are the LED lights (lots of them), air-filter and plenty of drawers to store things. Plus it's a lot larger inside the fridge. But this model has a few misses. The drawers weren't made such that the right hand drawers could open without opening the left door. The ice tray is a huge plus, but when you fill the freezer, it sometimes catches on the bottom of the ice tray. An integrated front handle would have made this easier to open. The left door tends to allow shelf items to move around, so be sure to pack your left side door shelves. Finally, we found the freezer to be a good bit smaller than our old 2/3 - 1/3 split GE monogram. We did not have the integrated ice/water opening, so our freezer had plenty of door space and shelf space, even though it was fairly slender (12" wide?). Overall, we'd still buy it again, but changing these small flaws would have really helped August 22, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Nothing But Issues Awful refrigerator. Poorly made, difficult to clean, freezer drawer never has worked right. Basically, all my Kitchenaid appliances are an absolute DON'T BUY. They are awful. I have never had more problems with appliances in my life. Will never buy Kitchenaid again. March 31, 2016
