Customer Reviews

Architect Series II 18 in. 50 lb. Freestanding or Built-In Icemaker in Stainless Steel is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 89.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far so good Original: KUIC18NNZS Replacement: KUID308ESS This unit replaces a defective kitchenaid ice maker. The first one would zap the pump, thermistor, etc every couple months. I believe it was just a circuit board problem, AC regulator. Fixed 3 times under warranty in 3 months. Luckily still under 3 year warranty and Kitchenaid replaced it with this one that so far has worked awesome. The ice is incredible. I hooked it up to my RO system so it is perfectly clear, and cubed ice. Kitchenaid would tell me it's a 1 year warranty. Be sure to keep warranty/instructions book and let them know. Maybe good idea for extended warranty. New model has slick stainless handle. Fast, quiet ice making. Love the ice, hope it works for the long haul. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Why did you do away with the panel ready version?? Very, very disappointed that the 18" icemaker is not available panel ready. We had a beautiful panel on our icemachine that I wanted to re-use but could not and the stainless is really ugly in comparison. The handle is way too big and protrudes too far out - looks like a paper towel holder in the middle of the kitchen. I will say, however, that it makes great ice and that was the reason we did not change brands. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointed Purchased a new Kitchen Aid under the counter icemaker model KUID308ESS in Jan. of 2016, now in July of 2017 it has stopped working. After spending several frustrating minutes on the phone with a Whirlpool / Kitchen Aid customer service representative trying to convince her that I had warranty coverage for 3 years verses the 1 year she was telling me (thank goodness I still had the paperwork on the machine), they arranged for a repairman. The repairman came a few days later and is telling me the condenser coil had a leak and needed to be replaced. I'm pretty much a hands-on guy with mechanical knowledge and this type of leak don't just occur in a year's time span. My guess, it's a known factory defect or design problem. Nonetheless, I'm out an icemaker for several weeks during the peak of the summer when ice is needed for drinks, adult beverages, etc. I'm not happy about this and wouldn't recommend this purchase to anyone, especially the way I was treated on the phone with their customer service.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice machine but something's missing This new ice machine replaced my KitchenAid I've had for 9 years. The old one didn't have a water filter. This one has an "Ice2" filter that twists into the front control panel. Logically, you'd think if a filter is required for the machine to work properly, KitchenAid would have installed it at the factory during assembly. Think again. For the price we paid, KitchenAid should have sold a complete product that worked straight out of the box. That was not the case. I was not happy getting a new machine and then discovering all the parts to make it function properly are not included. You have been warned.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bought new from Home Depot. Used one bin of ice every 1-2 weeks. Failed every 20 days for 3 month... Bought new from Home Depot. Used one bin of ice every 1-2 weeks. Failed every 20 days for 3 months. 3 repairs made. Each time I called Whirlpool they stated the warranty was 1 year only, and had to email pictures of the manual stating "No, a $2,000 icemaker has a 3 year warranty". The sent repair people to replace parts each time it broke, which was every 20 days. The pump replaced twice The thermistor twice Thermistor? You've never heard of it? I had to study this product to figure out the issues. This is a flawed, defective model. I believe the AC Adaptor within the unit and or circuit board does not handle electricity, power/surges correctly and thereby nukes the pump, thermistor or other parts Very aggravating since I need the ice and when the ice is made it is fantastic. Looks like no longer available. I'm sure they know the problem.
