Customer Questions & Answers

Does the door open all the way flat?

We are planning to put this below the counter in our island. Does the door fold all the way down flat?
Asked by: Lynnzoey
Yes, the inner door would be relatively flat in it's full open position, assuming this install location the door can be fully opened. Thanks for you interest in KitchenAid appliances.

Can this unit be modified to fit a 30" space?

I have a 30" cabinet space over my oven. Will this microwave fit properly into that space?
Asked by: Carol
Yeah but you'd be better off with this: it's half the price .4 more cubic ft of space, and in my opinion looks better.

What is the height of the 30 inch wide trim kit?

The height of my current microwave trim kit is 18 inches and length 30. Want to replace with another microwave with trim kit but want to make sure it will fit the height of my current opening.
Asked by: jo
This is a Built in Microwave, thus, there isn't a separate trim kit. Please click on the "Installation Guide" on this product page for detailed dimensions. Cutout is Min. 25³⁄₄" (65.4 cm) Max. 28³⁄₄" (73.0 cm) Width, 17⁵⁄₈" High. Please check the install guide for overall dimensions.

Why in the specifications does is say non returnable?

Asked by: Ker
Thank you for your recent inquiry with The Home Depot. Major appliances are non-returnable because when the order is placed by our customer, it is specially ordered from the manufacturer. Once the appliance is signed for, the manufacturer will not accept the return. We advise that the consumer carefully inspects that merchandise upon receipt and alert us of any possible damages/defects within 48 hours. For more information on the details of the process or for any other questions, please call us at our Appliance Hotline 1-800-455-3869. Thank you for shopping Home Depot.

Customer Reviews

Architect Series II 24 in. W 1.4 cu. ft. Built-In Microwave in Stainless Steel with Sensor Cooking is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 61.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Promises, promises. But not everything is true! This unit microwaves just fine. But the overall 'feel' of the unit itself tells me it is not of high quality. I have no problems with the door (as others seem to have), nor with the cooking features. My issue is with the 'trim kit' that came with the unit. I replaced a 13-year old Kitchenaid microwave operating with 240v. This unit was supposed to replace it as a near equal in terms of size and service. Well, this unit operates on 120v. and that is fine. But the trim kit provided with the unit only covers horizontal trim, not vertical. So now I have a gap showing of and inch or so above the microwave with no trim piece to cover it! Not only that, Kitchenaid doesn't offer such a piece.....apparently they think their old units will never be replaced so no trim kit is needed! Anyway, between this and the issues associated with the new Kitchenaid dishwasher I purchased at the same time, I am done with Kitchenaid when it comes to future appliance purchases!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Exquisite Look Bought with new home package to match other kitchen appliances. Made to sit about chest high over a separate oven unit. We got double ovens and wanted the matching microwave and had it installed about eye level in a cabinet over the counter. Unfortunately, the pull down door doesnt lend well to elevated installations and it can't be altered. There also isn't a side open door model in this family. So it looks really nice, works pretty good, but cumbersome to use in our set up. One notable mention is the exhaust fan that runs after you cook something for a couple minutes or so. Pretty cool. It is a fancy model so you'll need to get use to & learn to use the bells and whistles.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid performer and worthy of Kitchenaid brand Bought for about $1,000 from a customer installer store and couldn't be happier with our decision. Made in Sweden and the quality shows throuhout. Performance is best in class and better than many that cost thousands more.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Looking I like the fact this microwave doesn't look like a typical microwave oven. I installed it above my KitchenAid oven and it looks great. It's easy to use and works well.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Loud! This microwave came with a KitchenAid appliance package installed in our new house. I love KitchenAid and had previously remodeled a kitchen with all KitcheAid products, so had no concerns. The good: Once you learn how to use them, the controls are easy, especially the turn knob that is speedier than buttons. The bad: The oven has a fan that runs after you remove food. And it runs long and loud! It's much noisier than any other appliance I have ever had, so much so that it disrupts the TV in the next room! My husband would replace it if I would let him.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Just a bad purchase. So I want to start with this. Anyone, including myself, who feels that spending over a thousand dollars for a microwave is in some way going to afford them a higher quality product, is in for complete disappointment. The price tag does nothing to the unit but make the entire purchase that much more shameful, at least for myself. I am ashamed I spent this amount of money on something that didn't work from the day it was delivered. Not once. I feel a new unit is in order- deliver me a working unit, that's what I paid for. Not available any longer- the only remedy I was given was in home service or a full refund. Refund wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have a custom cut out in my cabinetry to accommodate this special 100 lb paperweight. The replacement model for this would cost me hundreds of dollars more, only to come out of my pocket. Not to mention the 3 hrs I'm being billed by my contractor to remove it and refit a new or replacement unit. I'm sorry, I'm not a fan of the service received on such a premium product. For those of you thinking a custom built in microwave is a good idea, talk to your cabinet guy first and see if they can build you a cabinet and door to conceal a countertop micro instead. It may not look as nice, but you will always be able to purchase another microwave to fit in that space and you won't have to worry about a replacement down the road being twice as much to repair or replace.
