Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by stevev Here is a real 4 year user truth. Prior cooktop was a Jenn-Air electric downdraft.
After 4 years of using model KGCD807xbl here are the real pros and cons.
Pros- Looks cool. and so does all my other kitchen-aid appliances.
Cons- Knobs are fake stainless (Plastic coated pig iron), glass is very hard to clean, porcelain coated grates the first 3 weeks started to melt off exposing the iron underneath. Customer service lady was not that helpful and was looking for ways not to replace the defective grate, the gas flame burners which are some kind of sand blasted bright silver metal stains and is impossible to clean off, the downdraft is very powerful....so powerful the BTU's go down the drain thus making cooking time longer on the lowest setting, the downdraft box which is painted pig iron is a rust pit ready to happen. Don't even let a morsel of salt get in it which will cause rust. My Jenn-Air did the same which is its sibling. All in all, Whirlpool has cleverly made an attractive product that automatically self destructs. But it looks cool.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Anna Love this cooktop!
I wanted a gas cooktop but wanted something really easy to clean, which was a definite plus with electric ceramic cooktops. This product gives you the best of both worlds. Very easy to clean; just wipe clean! I have not had any issues with the strength of the downdraft. I run it occasionally, on the lower speed, which is sufficient to meet my venting needs. The burners turn on quickly and are very responsive to changes in the knob adjustments. One thing I would change is, there is one larger burner... would love to have a 2nd large one. Otherwise, I love my cooktop!

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by DIYER72 Exhaust Fan too powerful, sucks flame so takes 3 times longer to heat anything
While it looks nice and fit our dimensions... this kitchen aid product has been problematic. The exhaust fan even on low, sucks the flame to the point where if a pot of water was boiling without the fan...once you turn on the fan... the water will stop boiling as the heat/fame is getting sucked down the vent. So you have to choose if you want the house to stink or to spend 3-4 times as long cooking with the indirect heat left. Also just just heard a noise while cooking tonight and saw a giant crack appeared between the two burners. Until they redesign this, I would stay away!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Kimmer Satisfied with Purchase
We recently installed this cooktop on our large standard height island, in a newly constructed open floor plan home. However, some things you should know. Stainless steel parts are knobs and two strips along front and back. In order to install the downdraft vent, we had to cut into the back of the cabinet in order to turn the vent to meet the with downdraft vent in the slab. We installed the vent in the slab then ordered the cooktop. I assume it was designed to vent into a wall. This would have been a problem if we did not have the large island and the ability to cut into the cabinet. The cooktop itself sits about 2 1/4" above the 36 1/2" counter. This could be an issue for a short person, which I am, but willing to adapt. The burners are a bit slow to ignite but not an issue for us. The vent fan is much quieter than the overhead fans that we are used to. I have not noticed a problem with the suction but my use is minimal. Grills are easy to remove although a bit heavy. Although it took some effort to get it installed, we are pleased with the purchase.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Steve Wonderful Cooktop
We love the cooktop, it performs exactly as advertised, is easy to clean, and we have absolutely no complaints. We had switched from an electric cooktop to gas, and the lesson I learned is that installation of this unit wasn't as easy as I had hoped; my old unit was hardwired 220 and this unit is plug-in 110, which meant I needed an electrician to swap out the breaker and put in an outlet. Also, the overlap on this unit just barely covered the opening, which made it tricky trying to get it positioned - and there are no anchors, it simply sits in the opening. That's fine if you have a lot of overlap, in my case I had to install some shims/supports underneath to provide extra support. Measure twice - I didn't and it caused me extra headache! Other than the install, this unit is wonderful and I highly recommend it!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by NewCooktop Good quality stove - but not many choices when you need a downdraft!
Stove is very sleek and modern looking. It looks kind of like a space ship has landed on my countertop. It's very beautiful and I think it will be easy to clean. The sleekness means there are few locations where food gook can accumulate. I like this stove and I am happy we bought it. However, I wish there had been more choices for a downdraft stove (with the vent in between the burners, two on each side). The high powered burner has been great for boiling pasta water (so much faster than my old gas stove).
