Customer Questions & Answers

Using the interior water supply, and just basic access

Which top door must be opened first? Specifically: is the inside water dispenser situated so it can be accessed by opening only one door? Thanks in advance for the answer.
Asked by: Lizzie
You are able to open and close either door without first opening the other door. The Internal water dispenser is located behind the left door on the interior cabinet wall.

Width with one door open; refrigerator shows 29.5 inches wide

We have limited space with refrigerator close to a wall; what additional space is necessary when opening one door at 90 degrees next to the wall on the right side (the other door is no problem)?
Asked by: Joey
You will need 37 3⁄4" width space available to have the door open 90 degrees.

Customer Reviews

Architect Series II 30 in. W 19.7 cu. ft. French Door Refrigerator in Monochromatic Stainless Steel is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 422.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not very flexable shelving and shows EVERY fingerprint. We purchased this refrigerator because we had limited hight due to a cabinet above the unit. It seemed very versatile at the store but reality is something else. The shelves have little adjustment. At best, with the top shelf in place, a bottle of orange juice just fits very tightly, plus only on the 2 sided as the center is lower due to the controls. Then, the shelf underneath of it will not fit a can of soda standing on end. Butter, spreads and small left over containers is all thet fits here. Also on the top shelf, bottles of water fall over as there is a rise in the shelf where it pivots. The 1st day, the trim on the bottom shelf popped off when opened the bottom drawer. The water inside seemed nice until I realized the flow is very slow and you are there for 45 seconds with the door open filling up a glass of water. The ice maker leaver get stuck in the up position for some reason and it will not make ice. The pump for the icemaker is nosey when running. Forget the finish. It is just my wife and I, 60 somethings, only use it and it showes EVERY finger print and it is hard to keep clean. the freezer is the best part. no complaints about it. the interior needs to be redesigned for better food placement, EG bottles and milk cartons. Rated 4 out of 5 by from French Door Fridge w/ Bottom Freezer The fridge design is exactly what we wanted. However, due to space limits, we had to get the smallest in this line. Truly, this fridge is just a bit too small for a family but for a couple it works great. Like the disappearing shelf (2) to accommodate larger, taller items. Plastic drawers could be sturdier. NO DEDICATED BUTTER OR EGG SPACE. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Spills happen Spills happen and apparently Kitchenaid has no advise for when they do. The vent that pumps cold air imto the fridge compartment is located on the bottom shelf all the way to the back of the fridge. I spilled some milk and cleaned it up. What I didn't realize is that the milk went into the vent(which is completely exposed) and into the mechanical parts. A day after the spill the smell of spoiled milk was noticeable. Kitchenaid had no recommendations. Repair company said they cant do anything. A $2000 fridge ruined by a cup of milk. Thanks kitchenaid.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this fridge So many features for a small fridge. I don't have a water hook-up so cannot speak to the ice or water dispenser, but it keeps the food cold or frozen, which is what I bought it to do. I like that it has a smooth front. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great french door fridge for small spaces We had limited options to fit our constrained (height, width and depth) small space. This KitchenAid is identical to the (lower priced) Whirlpool; and is actually made by Whirlpool. We selected the KitchenAid over the Whirlpool because it had: 1)MUCH more attractive stainless steel door handles; 2) Two retractable upper shelves (Whirlpool has only one); 3)Door bins include a spill pad making cleanup much easier. Things to be aware of: 1) The bins (door and fridge proper) aren't super robust compared to the similar sized Samsung. 2)Fridges in this size class are small - so even though its way easier to see what you have, size is still constrained. 3) Accommodating a milk jug (even 1/2 gallon) requires retracting one of the upper shelves. But once you put taller items in, you essentially lose the space (or forget about) the items behind the tall items. We use that space for items not used often, like butter. 4) The freezer is really the surprise of this fridge. It is roomy and very easy to organize what you have. The icemaker is recessed so if you don't use it (we don't) it doesn't consume valuable real estate. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product, Perfect Size ---> Read Below We ran into a very unusual situation. We were very used to having a much larger refrigerator at our prior home. When we purchased our new home we two options: 1. Find a fridge that fit our space (next to impossible) and 2. Make the opening of the built-in area larger. We chose to try and find the right size fridge that would fit the current opening. This project took quite a while and was VERY resourceful. I finally came across the KitchenAid and it fits perfectly. We had specific desires as well, including water in the fridge with filtration which this fridge provided. Kudos to KitchenAid for making a product that no one else has! Thanks! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works well for a tight space We bought this Kitchenaid product along with new dischwasher, range and microwave. It matches all the other products and has made a big improvement to the look and functionality of our kitchen. Our early 90's built home didn't have a lot of space for the larger sized refrigerators built today so we were pleased Kitchenaid makes this smaller sized product. I commend the designers to pack as much storage into a smaller footprint as possible - both in the upper fridge and lower freezer. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointed in Kitchen Aid We have a chronic problem with the doors not shutting properly. Despite numerous attempts to level the unit and the doors themselves they still do not shut easily. The freezer has real issues concerning the defrosting and drain features. In 3 1/2 years I have had to remove everything in the freezer, racks, door, ice maker and rear panel to remove ice build up and clear the drain - Twice! As part of that job the rear panel has to be removed so the grommet can be remove and cleaned and so that you can determine that the drain in the freezer is allowing water to drain, once again twice. I've also had to replace the freezer door gasket. Terribly disappointed in this product and Kitchen Aid's lack of willingness to provide any help other than to want to send a repairman out. Thank goodness that with YouTube I was able to figure it out, but has taken a lot of time out of my life in thought and deed.
