This 36 in. KitchenAid Architect Series II 5 element induction cooktop combines precision and speed. Electromagnetic induction technology directly heats the pan while keeping the cooktop surface cool to the touch. Twelve power levels give you the power to rapidly bring water to a boil and sear scallops to perfection. A bridge function (on left side and right side elements) lets you combine the power of two elements into one large cooking zone for specialty cookware such as a griddle or oval pan.

  • Cooktop features one 12 in. Dual 4800/2800-watt element plus four 7 in. 2500-watt elements with bridge. Each element has Simmer, Melt, Keep Warm and Performance Boost for optimal cooking results
  • Touch-activated controls integrate seamlessly into the surface and include a slider for heat-level selection
  • 4800/2500-watt dual element offers two element sizes in one space to accommodate a variety of pan sizes
  • Bridge function provides the flexibility to convert two cooking zones into one large cooking zone for even cooking when using specialty cookware or a griddle
  • Smooth ceramic-glass surface allows for effortless cleanup
  • Control Lock helps prevent unintended use
  • Hot Surface indicator. An "H" will appear in the surface cooking area display as long as any surface cooking area is too hot to touch, even after the surface cooking area(s) is turned off
  • Simmer Function automatically selects a low power level to help maintain a constant simmer without boiling over
  • 12 heat level settings to handle everything from searing to sautéing
  • Performance Boost allows you to exceed the maximum heat-level setting for up to 10 minutes--perfect for rapid boiling
  • Melt and Hold uses low power levels for melting delicate ingredients or keeping cooked food warm without scorching
  • Use the cooking timer to set times up to 90 minutes. The timer is independent of any other control settings and can be used only on one cooking zone at a time
  • Limited 1-year, limited 5-year parts only warranty on select component parts
  • Induction cooktops require that you use cookware with magnetic properties. If a magnet sticks to the bottom of a pan, the cookware is compatible
  • Product available for home delivery only. Installation is not offered at time of delivery; check with your local The Home Depot store for installation options

I'm replacing a jennair 4 burner glass top. would like to order this one but wondering if there will be issues with wattage or anything that I should check with my electrician first. Are there any special issues (large power draw, etc.) with induction or should it be a simple exchange. thx

Answer:
Please click on the "Instuctions/Assembly" link on this product page for detailed information.
A 4-wire or 3-wire, single phase, 240 volt, 60 Hz., AC only electrical supply is required on a separate, 50-amp circuit for 36" models or 40-amp circuit 30" models.

Just to confirm, any pan that a magnet will stick to (no matter it's size) will work on ANY of the burners?
Also, if water drips or spills on the control panel will the cooktop shut down?

Customer "support" is totally unhelpful. They offered to send out a service man, but if he didn't think the unit was defective, it would cost me $70 ! She said they weren't in the business of guaranteeing anybody's cookware.
Other than that, it's a great cooktop, but just be warned Read Less

Answer:
ABSOLUTELY NOT !
I recently bought this cooktop from Home Depot. I can definitely tell you that if the pot is smaller than the marked area, the thing just ticks a few times and alarms. This is the same on all cooking positions
The pots are strongly magnetic, so that's not the problem.
When I called Kitchenaid Customer "Service", they told me they weren't in the business of guaranteeing cookware. If I Read More

If you want to use your existing cookware, make sure everything is large enough. Otherwise, I recommend not buying this expensive cooktop Read Less

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 80 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Looking Cooktop This induction cooktop replaces a similar model that I broke by dropping a cast iron pot on it. The glass top cracked. Also the original had nothing on the border to protect the sides. So it was getting chipped. This unit has stainless steel trim all the way around. IT took 10 minutes to remove the old one and clean up the surface and about 10 minutes to install. Installation required attaching the plug to the prewired unit that came with flexible conduit installed. Apply the thin foam, insert the cooktop. Adjust the plate on the bottom, plug it in and it is done!. It works very well. Please note that cooking on an induction cooktop is a little different than a traditional range.. But it is only a slight adjustment. July 23, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Fast, safe, nice but loud buzzing with dimmable LED lights We love showing our friends how quickly it can boil water. It's so kid friendly, as it isn't too hot after use. Also, teaching my kids to cook isn't as scary or dangerous without flames or hot heating coils. I would have given it a 5, but we're not loving the interference with the dimmable LED lights. When they're on, this cooktop buzzes loudly. The noise is the only negative thing about this product. We specifically chose this unit because of the bridging elements. We like to cook with a long skillet and no other induction cooktop had this (plus we wanted it bigger to fit multiple pans easily). Unfortunately, we have to find/buy an "extension plate" as our smallest pan can't be used (the cooktop doesn't recognize the pan, when it is smaller than the burner.) We did have to buy all new pans (if a magnet won't stick to your pan, it won't work on induction) May 12, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Homebrewing a Hit! The inaugral Kitchen Aid event for our family was our "home-brew-a-rama". Father & daughter spent an afternoon cooking up several batches of homemade beer for our summer family reunion. The heating was better than they could have imagined. Using the bridge heating feature, they were able to keep heat even and consistant while the pot bubbled happily away. June 18, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great features Best cooktop ever thus far June 12, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Failing after 10 months of use Purchased in Nov of 2014; however, I didn't install use until July 2015 due to construction delays. Cooktop worked fine for 6 months, then the random error codes started; shutting down unit. The error codes indicate a surface overheating condition (C2); this happens when the burners are at Medium (5-7). How exactly does an induction surface get too hot??? The pans get hot, not the surface. We even followed the crazy installation instructions by cutting ventilation slots for the cooling fans in the cabinet below during installation. I spent $8K on Kitchenaid's higher end series products for our house. After 10 months of use, I'm not too happy with the quality. Wall Oven - KEMS309BSS - OK Two Dishwashers - KDTE504DSS - One with a failed LCD screen Cooktop - KICU569XSS - See Above Cooktop Ventilation - KVWB606DSS - Missing screws, Kitchenaid refused to send - the screws were not available as a separate part number. On 2 occasions it has shut off spontaneously with no response from buttons. May 12, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Heating Element Cool Down Feature This is my 3rd. induction cook top. The cool to touch is one of the reasons I like induction cooking, however there is an issue with this model's cool down feature. It feels hot to touch and it take a longer time to cool down. May 10, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Induction Cooking I love induction cooking. this is my second cooktop. I preferred the hybrid type, but it was not available. This Kitchenaid has a feature I do not like, I cannot see where the burners are, they are not clearly marked I have to pick up the pots and pans constantly after stirring to see if they are in the right part of circle and most of the time they are not. May 6, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by New, Modern and excellent to cook on ease to use and easy to clean. Love it. May 6, 2016
