Product Overview

This 36 in. KitchenAid Architect Series II 5 element induction cooktop combines precision and speed. Electromagnetic induction technology directly heats the pan while keeping the cooktop surface cool to the touch. Twelve power levels give you the power to rapidly bring water to a boil and sear scallops to perfection. A bridge function (on left side and right side elements) lets you combine the power of two elements into one large cooking zone for specialty cookware such as a griddle or oval pan.

Customer Questions & Answers

No size restrictions to activate burners?

Just to confirm, any pan that a magnet will stick to (no matter it's size) will work on ANY of the burners? Also, if water drips or spills on the control panel will the cooktop shut down?
Asked by: thehaymakerswife
Only the Thermador all induction cooktop allows any size pan and it's a whopping $5k. What you need to look at is the specs for the cooktop you are interested in. They should all show the sizes they support. Some require a 5 1/2" minimum pan diameter other may go down to 4" and they have a max.

Does this cook top come with the stainless steel frame or is one available at an additional cost?

Asked by: MJM1
the model with SS at the end of the model number has the stainless steel, but the Bridge Mode doesn't actually heat between the burners, so it is a complete waste.

Where can I buy the griddle and grilling dual burner accessories that are shown? Also can you use cast iron on this cooktop?

Hello Tina, you may buy the accessories for this KitchenAid Cooktop by visiting https://www.kitchenaidparts.com/. This Cooktop requires ferromagnetic pans to be used and a cast Iron is able to be used.

What size range vent hood is needed for this 36in induction cooktop? Can I get by with 400cfm? It's not a gas cooktop, so I am hoping it can deal with less ventilation. I have purchased and ordered this cooktop along with a new platinum refrigerator, double ovens, dishwasher and beverage fridge from KitchenAid, please answer this question! I hope your products are good.
Asked by: Vance
Vance- A 400 CFM vent hood will work for this unit. While it is recommended that you use a larger extractor hood. This will certainly get the job done for you.

Architect Series II 36 in. Smooth Surface Induction Cooktop in Stainless Steel, 5 Elements with Bridge and Dual Element is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 132.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Takes some getting used to induction cooking After determining which of my pans were compatible with induction cooking, I found it somewhat easy to use. The heat control is near instantaneous. Coming from a gas stove, that's what I was looking for. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great while it works I bought this cooktop in 2014 along with a double oven, downdraft vent and refrigerator for my newly constructed home. The cooktop just suddenly quit working -- does not power on -- was fine one day and dead the next. I have already had to have the ice maker in the freezer and the downdraft vent serviced and am waiting for service for the cooktop. Very disappointed by KitchenAid -- appliances look great but reliability not so much. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great cooktop, awesome performance, poor quality I'm sad to say that after 3.75 years this cooktop died. Called local repair shops in Angie's List but none worked on these induction cooktops. Reluctantly called Whirlpool / KitchenAid and they dispatched Diamond Factory Service who I have had very mixed experiences with in the past. Fortunately this tech who was sent was great. The good news - the $680 part is under warranty. The bad news - 2 weeks not being able to use it and $220 of labor that I have to pay for out of pocket. I like Whirlpool/KitchenAid, so much so that everything in my kitchen is KitchenAid except the microwave, but I'm afraid the quality - even since bringing manufacturing back to the US - isn't what it used to be.

I bought the Kitchenaid Induction cook top thinking it was going to be amazing, and with a normal round pan that fits in the space of the burners, it is. Unfortunately for me, I specifically bought a model with the "Bridge Mode" for the burners, and quickly found out that Kitchenaid doesn't feel that people really plan to use this feature. The "Bridge Zone" doesn't actually have any way of heating the pan, so now I have an overpriced cook top that doesn't work as advertised. When I try to use the bridge mode with my griddle, the two round spots where the burners are heat just fine, but the space over the "Bridge Zone" is 200 degrees cooler than the burner zones making it completely worthless. I called Kitchenaid, and the representative I spoke with said it should work fine and scheduled a service call. When the service technician came out, he called their technical department and was told this is normal. If you are looking for a cook top without a Bridge Mode, get a cheaper model, because this isn't worth the extra money.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Too much clicking! Completed a kitchen makeover a few months ago and replaced the electric cooktop with induction. Really like the functionality of induction however we are having a difficult time with the constant clicking noise whenever the burner is being heated. I called the sales representative and he said that there should not be any noise so I placed a warranty service call. The service technician stated that it did appear that the noise was a little louder than what he had seen/heard on past calls regarding his knowledge of this product. He said that he would check with the manufacture and get back with me. After not hearing back from the technician for a few weeks, I called and left a voicemail asking for an update. No response for another week, so I called again. A person answered the call and after hearing my situation, he said he would contact the technician and get back with me. He did get back with me and said that the technician had contacted the manufacturer, Whirlpool and they said that it was working to specifications and therefore no problem. When I asked the person why the sales representative would say that the unit should not be making a clicking noise, he said that he must not have understood how the product works. I'm writing this review out of frustration because we had a dinner party last night and we were asked why was the cooktop making so much noise? Instead of talking about how quickly the unit heats and other benefits of this new technology, we spent time talking about the annoying clicking noise. This is just one of many situations where other people have asked us what is that noise. I read a lot of reviews on this product before the purchase and understood that it would make a little noise, however nowhere near this decibel level. For us, we would not have purchased this product knowing what we now know.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than Gas I thought I wanted a gas cooktop for our new home but living on an island w/ o natural gas made that a problem. Our contractor who said "gee induction, it's better than gas". Well he was right. Easy clean up and great and fast temperature control. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great induction cooktop Love this cooktop! Had the Samsung induction stove previously and this cooktop meets our needs and functions much better. All our pans work well on the designated areas and the control panel is easy to use. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
