Product Overview

This 36 in. KitchenAid Architect Series II 5 element induction cooktop combines precision and speed. Electromagnetic induction technology directly heats the pan while keeping the cooktop surface cool to the touch. Twelve power levels give you the power to rapidly bring water to a boil and sear scallops to perfection. A bridge function (on left side and right side elements) lets you combine the power of two elements into one large cooking zone for specialty cookware such as a griddle or oval pan.

Customer Questions & Answers

No size restrictions to activate burners?

Just to confirm, any pan that a magnet will stick to (no matter it's size) will work on ANY of the burners? Also, if water drips or spills on the control panel will the cooktop shut down?
Asked by: thehaymakerswife
Only the Thermador all induction cooktop allows any size pan and it's a whopping $5k. What you need to look at is the specs for the cooktop you are interested in. They should all show the sizes they support. Some require a 5 1/2" minimum pan diameter other may go down to 4" and they have a max.

The answer on the size of the pots was not answered clearly.

If you have a pot or skillet with a bottom measuring approximately 5 1/2", will it work on at least one or more of the burners on this induction cooktop? Please answer this question clearly and completely. Thank you
Asked by: Carolyn
Look at the cooktop specifications. They will tell you the minimum size needed a well as the sizes the unit supports and on which burner section.

Are the dimensions of the black & stainless steal the same. Or does the edge of the stainless make that one a hint large

Actual dimension of black vs stainless steal
Asked by: jess
Please see the "Specification" link on this product page for detailed information. The are both the same.

replacement question/ wattage

I'm replacing a jennair 4 burner glass top. would like to order this one but wondering if there will be issues with wattage or anything that I should check with my electrician first. Are there any special issues (large power draw, etc.) with induction or should it be a simple exchange. thx
Asked by: pgw
Please click on the "Instuctions/Assembly" link on this product page for detailed information. A 4-wire or 3-wire, single phase, 240 volt, 60 Hz., AC only electrical supply is required on a separate, 50-amp circuit for 36" models or 40-amp circuit 30" models.

Customer Reviews

Architect Series II 36 in. Smooth Surface Induction Cooktop in Stainless Steel, 5 Elements with Bridge and Dual Element is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 107.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superb! I live in a neighborhood with no natural gas. I've envied my kids and friends with gas cooktops as I worked with a radiant electric. No more! The rumors are true; water boils quicker; heat is instantly added or removed; and the "simmer" setting keeps food at 140 degrees! (I've never used a gas cooktop that would actually simmer). Only complaint, smallest burner is 7 inches; too large to recognize your smallest pans. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Too much clicking! Completed a kitchen makeover a few months ago and replaced the electric cooktop with induction. Really like the functionality of induction however we are having a difficult time with the constant clicking noise whenever the burner is being heated. I called the sales representative and he said that there should not be any noise so I placed a warranty service call. The service technician stated that it did appear that the noise was a little louder than what he had seen/heard on past calls regarding his knowledge of this product. He said that he would check with the manufacture and get back with me. After not hearing back from the technician for a few weeks, I called and left a voicemail asking for an update. No response for another week, so I called again. A person answered the call and after hearing my situation, he said he would contact the technician and get back with me. He did get back with me and said that the technician had contacted the manufacturer, Whirlpool and they said that it was working to specifications and therefore no problem. When I asked the person why the sales representative would say that the unit should not be making a clicking noise, he said that he must not have understood how the product works. I'm writing this review out of frustration because we had a dinner party last night and we were asked why was the cooktop making so much noise? Instead of talking about how quickly the unit heats and other benefits of this new technology, we spent time talking about the annoying clicking noise. This is just one of many situations where other people have asked us what is that noise. I read a lot of reviews on this product before the purchase and understood that it would make a little noise, however nowhere near this decibel level. For us, we would not have purchased this product knowing what we now know.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful Cooktop I have had a gas stove for the past 25+ plus years. I just moved to a new home and could not have a gas stove. I researched for the best possible cooktops and I found the KitchenAid Induction Cooktop. It is AWESOME. It cooks so fast and the heat is regulated instantly. I absolutely love it. *Note: I did have to purchase all new pots and pans because they must be stainless steel or iron in order for the cooktop to get hot. However, that was pretty nice, too, to get all new stuff! :) [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Getting used to it. remodeled my kitchen from a conventional cooktop. Hard to find cookware, center burner not functioning properly (I don't think) and wish the controls had the numbers posted so I could tell what heat range I am choosing. I'm getting used to it but not as easily as I would like. Expensive and now that I had to buy all new expensive cookware, it was more than I bargained for. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sleek Our first induction cooktop so we're getting use to it. It looks wonderful with our black granite countertops and blends right in for a super sleek look. We did discover that our existing Calphalon Cookware isn't compatible with induction, so we'll need to replace our entire set. We're sure it will be worth it. Rated 4 out of 5 by from Powerful heat Excellent heat distribution and fast boiling. Bridge for griddle cooking. One disadvantage is smallest burner is 7 inches so small pots will not work [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 36" Induction cooktop I absolutely love my induction cooktop. Faster cooking, precise cooking temperatures and easy cleanup. If you like to cook with gas, then this cooktop would be good for you. It cooks like gas but you don't get the heat from around the pots and easy to keep clean. Smartest thing we ever purchased and would recommend this to anyone. I will never have anything other than an induction cooktop. We purchased the cooktop, convection double ovens and dishwasher for the kitchen remodel that we did and we are so pleased with these products. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
