I like to use the grinder to make ground beef, pork or chicken. I find the knife and cutter plates do not maintain sharpness to cut the meat but pushes the meat through as a paste. Does KitchenAide sell improved knives and cutter plates? I would purchase. Please reply. Fred Schuba

Customer Reviews

Food Grinder Attachment for Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer is rated 2.8 out of 5 by 128.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Food Grinder problems I received my food grinder as a gift from my son to go along with my Kitchen Aid mixer. I used it a few times to grind chicken but decided it was too much work. This spring I bought the vegetable and fruit strainer to use on home grown tomatoes. When I took the food grinder attachment out of the box I noticed it had a crack but used it anyway. Did the tomatoes fine but when I tried to put some small grapes through the strainer it exploded grapes all over me and the kitchen. I wouldn't buy another plastic one but will try the metal one since I need a good strainer for my fruits and veggies. Hope it performs better and longer.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst product ever I have three Kitchen Aid mixers that I have purchased over the years and so far all three work great. Unfortunately I thought that I would buy another grinder so that I could keep one with each machine, but stupidly . I thought that I would buy the plastic unit because it was a little cheaper , and what could possibly go wrong ??? Well , I got about 6 months use from it and when needing to use it again , I heard a LOUD CRACK when I started to grind my fresh meat for my weekly meatloaf . I had no idea what it was , but as I tried to continue grinding , it would NOT work properly. I switched out the grinder with one of the metal ones to finish the job , and when cleaning the plastic unit , I found two cracks in the neck part that sits up against the machine ( as shown in one of the reviews on this page).but the cracks were not surface cracks ,but through and through ,which rendered it useless. NO MORE PLASTIC EVER AGAIN !!! HUGH waste of money !

Rated 2 out of 5 by from MINE TOO CRACKED! I was grinding some meat today and heard a loud "crack" coming from the grinder. Sure enough, there were 2 cracks in the housing; one at 11 o'clock and one at 3 o'clock, loofing at the power hub attachment end. I put a hose clamp on it to finish my project but it won't last forever. I'm writing this because I saw so many other complaints of this nature in the reviews. Is it a design flaw?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from unable to use for anything I bought this a while ago and today realized I can not use it for ANYTHING. A while back, I tried to grind meat with it, only to have it fail completely (the blade only mushed the meat, didn't grind it and the machine quickly became backed up), and today I tried to grind sliced ham, only to realize after grinding two pounds of it, that the middle of the grinder was rubbing metal on metal, pushing a gray fine metal infused substance into the ground ham. Needless to say, I had to throw out the two pounds that I ground, had to buy new ham and had to use my old hand-cranked grinder. Disappointing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Problems with Food Grinder maybe assembly problem by user I love this food grinder and use it for all types of meat on a weekly basis. Today I accidentally did not assemble it correctly before trying to use it and learned that is a disaster and created most of the problems reported in the negative reviews here. Someone put away the parts to my food grinder and didn't put the little square "knife" part with the other parts and I somehow forgot it existed. So I assembled the grinder parts and it hardly worked at all. I go a small crack in the housing, had to use the pusher to even get anything out a all and thought I had broken something. I cleaned it all out and tried again and started even getting metal shavings grinding from the shaft into the meat. So I stopped, took it apart again and found a manual and realized I had neglected to put the little square part they call the "knife" on to the shaft before the round grinding plate. Once I found it and put it on, viola, no problems at all and it was back to working as it has always worked....which is I wonder if that is a part that people don't realize is essential to the operation of the can't be lost or just ignored. In any case, there is the issue that these parts can be easily lost but I clean and dry mind and then store them all assembled in a large plastic zip lock bag near my mixer so it is ready to use next time.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointed I loved this food grinder, as I prefer to grind my own ground beef... however, the plastic cracked the metal piece/shaft that goes into the machine... after only using it a few times. I use my mixer for everything, but won't be using this accessory any longer. :-(

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Quality I did not read the reviews online about the grinders problems with cracking. I would think that the company would replace the grinder, as it is a manufacturing flaw. As reported here and online, the plastic on the grinder cracks. Then when you go to get it replaced, there is only a one year warranty. Doesn't make sense. Why would anyone want to spend the money on Kitchen Aid that you expect quality. The mixer is great, but the have skimped on the grinder.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Cracked housing I have enjoyed using this attachment, and I have always felt that KitchenAid quality justified the price. Sadly, the housing of my grinder has cracked, and judging from the reviews, it appears to be a common problem. I cannot justify spending the money to replace this attachment.
