I like to use the grinder to make ground beef, pork or chicken. I find the knife and cutter plates do not maintain sharpness to cut the meat but pushes the meat through as a paste. Does KitchenAide sell improved knives and cutter plates? I would purchase. Please reply. Fred Schuba

Food Grinder Attachment for Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer is rated 2.9 out of 5 by 107.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Cracked and Shattered Housing As others have described, I used the unit only a few times before noticing hairline cracks in the housing. The hairline cracks then opened up over time and created even larger cracks. While making cranberry chutney for Thanksgiving today, the housing completely shattered and dropped pieces of the grinder housing all over me and the food. This occurred at only the first speed setting grinding cranberries and oranges. I would say the unit has been used approximately five times. I love Kitchenaid but this unit is a safety concern. Prior to the failure, the unit worked well. My only design complaint is that the two dyes are extremely fine and extremely course, something in the middle would be a welcome addition.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Cracks make it unusable. I have used this grinder maybe 5 or 6 times, and only for grinding sirloin to make fresh burger, to avoid the widespread contamination they have found in ground meats everywhere. Now I notice cracks in the plastic, near where the metal post goes into the mixer hub. This will harbor bacteria, making it unusable for grinding clean ground meat. There is a design flaw here...if only in the choice to make it of plastic! Expensive garbage. If I still had my receipt, I would return it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Dissapointed I've used this attachment for grinding chuck, only. I've had it for about 6 months and have ground about 15 pounds of beef. With the first use, there has been a black viscous substance that comes out with/on the meat. I think it is lubricant from inside the shaft of the feeder screw. I end up have to pick threw the ground beef and remove what I can. This is kind of gross. I can only hope it is a food grade lubricant.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not a meat grinder!! This was a birthday gift. The only purpose was to grind my own meats. All it does is mash meat and stop after a minute because of the build up of fat, muscle and grizzle. Have to take it apart to pry off glop just to have to do it again and again. Tried with beef and then pork with same results. There are grey pieces of meat dispersed among ground meat Very disappointed with this, even though have 2 mixers that are are by far the best I have used. One mixer was my mom's dating back from 1958 and still runs like a top and my newest is 20 years old in excellent condition.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Metal dust contaminating food - Beware We have had our unit for about 7 years and never had a need to use it until today. In about 1/4 pound of meat, it fully clogged the plate. Disassembling the grinder, the knife had been entangled in sinew. I had kept all fat but removed silver skin prior to grinding. Getting past the knife, the meat was all contaminated with metal rubbings and was dark grey. Further disassembly showed very light wear on the driveshaft. Not only was this unit unable to grind the meat, it was contaminating it as well. Nobody who wants a working product or cares for the health of themselves or those they feed should ever buy this unit. Many other similar reports are here in the reviews. My unit was a 7 year old system but was never used. Other people who just bought the unit experienced the same thing so they have done nothing to rectify it their manufacturing flaw.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Black Residue on Shaft The shaft at the back has discolored in the dishwasher. When I touch it a black residue rubs off my hands.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cracked housing I have used my grinder for at least twelve years with excellent results, so can't complain. However, the last time I used it I noticed cracks developing in the plastic housing where it connects to the metal part that attached to the stand mixer. I went to the KitchenAid website intending to order a new housing (the other parts of my grinder still work fine), but was unable to do so. Can you help me out here? Otherwise a fine product that punches above its weight.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from food grinder I've had mine for many years and it is starting to get hairline cracks now, but I used it for probably 25 years without a problem. I grind cranberries and apples in it all the time and it's great.
