Funny that the "Kitchenaid Team" states here that the attachment has been redesigned to correct the problem. In my own product research, I have found repeatedly that there are issues with the blue liquid leaking. So I emailed KitchenAid this weekend and told them I had seen hundreds of reviews reporting this issue and I questioned whether it was being addressed or redesigned... I didn't want to buy a faulty product. This is the response I received today (2/8/16):
"Dear Ms. H****,
Thank you for contacting KitchenAid and allowing me the opportunity to respond to your inquiry.
KitchenAid's Ice Cream Maker Attachment does not have any known issues. I would advise that the warranty is for one year, there have been no changes to the design, and that there have been no consistent issues that would warrant a change.
If I may be of further assistance to you, please feel free to respond to this email or you may reach us by calling 1-800-541-6390, Monday through Friday, 8 am until 8 pm, EST.
Thank you for owning KitchenAid.
Sincerely,
Emily

Interesting... Who do you believe? And if it has been redesigned, was there a recall on the old ones? How would you know if you are purchasing an old one or a new one? I really, really want this attachment but I'm not risking purchasing an expensive faulty product, especially when the responses are contradictory. Read Less

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Does not fit professional 6000 hd model Received this as a Christmas gift, was very excited to use this during the hot summer months! I made my ice cream mixture, and was dismayed to find that the attachment does not fit my KitchenAid mixer. I made sure that this attachment was correct for my KitchenAid model, which it is. The drive assembly is too small to fit onto the drive shaft, either way that I moved the drive assembly it did not fit. This is very disappointing, as well I received the instructions for a completely different ice cream attachment with a different drive assembly. I'm unsure if this was just a packaging error or this just does not fit this KitchenAid model. June 12, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Blue Goo Leaking I have used the product only a few times and it is leaking blue goo. I am very disappointed in the quality of the product. The product functioned wonderfully before the blue liquid started coming out. It appears that this might be an issue with the product, since I have read a number of other reviews that have had the same problem. July 13, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Results I purchased this Ice Cream Maker Attachment in the summer of 2008. I used it once before storing it away and recently resurrected it after seeing a television commercial. It creates incredibly tasty sorbet (I made Lemon Yesterday for the first time) and previously a Vanilla Custard Style Ice Cream which was deliciously creamy and decadent. Unlike the other reviewers I have not experienced any issues with leaking fluids etc. perhaps because I have an older model. My lift stand mixer was purchased as a wedding gift for my husband and I back in 1987. It was such an incredible gift and not a week goes by that I have not used it. Kitchen Aide products performed for our family. May 30, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Disapointed I am sitting here getting ready for our family 4th of July celebration and was planning on surprising the family with some awesome homemade ice cream, however what I got instead was a freezer shelf full of blue goo, an ice cream base that is not freezing (due to no more cold blue goo inside of it) and then once I go to pour it out of the bowl I get blue goo in the ice cream. Needless to say, I am not a happy camper right now. I have used this item once since I have recievd it for a wedding gift 2 years ago and am now about on the verge of tears because of it. I am reading reviews from it now and am seeing that Kitcheaide does not seem to be very accomidating in exchanging this product. I am a long time faithful supporter of Kitchenaide and foodblogger/ vlogger and I can say right now that if this is not resolved in a favorable manner, my followers will not hear the end of it from me. I sure hope I am not further disappointed. July 3, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointed I received the ice cream bowl as a gift back in December 2012. I have used it a few times over the years and recently while I was unpacking it I noted the box had what I thought was water damage. Today I wanted to put it in the freezer so I could use in the next few weeks and noticed some blue liquid in the box and on the bowl. I noted that my bowl has a fine crack in the nub that fits into my bowl lift mixer. Now seeing how much liquid has seeped out over the past few months I'm not sure it will work anymore. What a waste! I would consider purchasing another one though... July 9, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Great product, but began leaking I received my favorite wedding gift a couple of months ago, and have made ice cream 4 times. It works very well, churning to the perfect consistency, but the last time I put the bowl in the freezer, I found a puddle of blue liquid around it. It has been leaking, even though I can't find a crack or the source of the leak. I'm very disappointed that this happened, but have otherwise been happy with the product. I'm assuming if it is leaking, that it will not be safe to use, or as effective. As many other customers appear to be having the same problem, I'm hesitant to replace my current bowl with another KitchenAid, though I doubt another company will make such an efficient product. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by My family loves homemade ice cream! I have had this ice cream maker bowl attachment and have thoroughly enjoyed it!! I have owned it for 6 years now and it hasn't failed me at all! I always store it in the freezer so it is ready to use when needed. If you read through the instructions thoroughly and maybe more than once, you will see how easy it is to use. You will not have firm ice cream immediately; it will need to go in the freezer for 6-8 hrs. to firm up. But the end result will be so worth it! My family truly loves the ice cream it produces!! Enjoy!!! July 15, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Stay away! Leaks blue liquid My wife and I received this item as a wedding gift to be added to our collection of kitchen aid items (we have quite a few). Although this item was great at first, being able to make delicious ice cream only lasted a year as one day it started leaking blue fluid (it was all over one of our freezer shelves). We tried making ice cream anyways but it would not cool the mixture to the right temperature and ended up with a soupy cream instead. I would expect a higher quality product from KitchenAid. I would definitely suggest looking elsewhere for your ice cream making needs as the item is not worth the investment. I urge KitchenAid to solve this issue or at least extend the warranty as the leaking on our unit started a few months after the warranty expiration. July 3, 2016
