I've had professional culinary training but had held off on buying my own stand mixer for home use for a long time. I've been researching them and finally reached a decision to buy the KitchenAid Pro 600 6-Qt mixer after talking with a woman who owns her own restaurant and said that she has used hers to bake for her restaurant every day for 10 years and that it is still going strong. I looked at it as a long-term investment that I could feel good about.
I like the large capacity, strong motor and Soft Start mixing feature, along with its expandability with options for lots of attachments. I used it to make multiple batches of bread and of cookies for the holidays, and it cranked right through the large batches with ease. My sister borrowed it to do the same and now wants one of her own. It is also quieter than other stand mixers I've encountered.
I opted to spend just a little more to get the 6-qt model and am glad I did. My only regret is in having waited for so long to invest in one of these - I wish I had done so sooner.

This is my 3rd kitchenaid mixer... my first one was purchased when my daughter was 1 (she's 23 now!). It was a TANK. My 2nd one was this exact model & the gears stripped in under 6 months. My husband - bless his little honey-do-list heart - knows how to replace the gears but has yet to find a "round-to-it" to get it done. Instead, he blessed & surprised me with another. I have no idea why one lasted 22 years & the next only 6 months but I'm really hoping this is the last stand mixer I'll ever have to buy. If I have to keep spending money on the unit, how will I ever be able to afford all of the amazing attachments that I want / need?? :) [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I've had this mixer a little over 3years, I've used it hardly ever because after the first couple of times using it the gears stripped, bought new gears and fixed, while using it the first time after repair the gears stripped again, so bought new gears and fixed it again. Used it 2 1/2 times and the gears stripped again, and I used genuine Kitchenaid parts, clean all the grease out...check for any fragments, check from front to back to make sure there is nothing in there that doesn't belong. I am going to buy a new one and if that one breaks I will never buy another of these again, as I have heard on line that other people have had the same problem with this model!

I had a 5qt. Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer for over 25 years that I sold in an estate sale when I retired to CA...I found out I couldn't live without one before too long. The 6 qt. model was priced right, the color is whimsical and the power is perfect for my use for breads, etc. I even love the new design of the anti-splash/pour spout. The dough hook is also much better and similar ro what I used my entire career in professional kitchens and culinary schools where I taught. So, get one if you need capacity, power and beauty. Don't settle for less than a Kitchen Aid branded appliance. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by CJ Second purchase!
I had the Kitchenaid Classic for over 25 years. It was still in perfect shape and ran like the day I got it. It is now being enjoyed by my mother in law. She has used it every day since. I remodeled my kitchen and wanted a new color, yea that's my excuse, so I also upgraded to the Pro 600. I am in love, love with it. I use it for much more than just mixing. I smoke a lot of meats and it is perfect for shredding them will still warm. I use the regular mixer paddle and it tears into in no time. If you use a mixer often go for it. I garantee you will not be disappointed! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Reverend Beau I wish I had upgraded before my old machine broke
We had a smaller, tilt head machine for something like a quarter century. I make bread frequently and had been running it at too high a speed (the instructions were lost and forgotten long ago) and it broke. So we ordered this new, bigger machine. The first time I used it I couldn't believe how well it worked. We're two months in and I can't believe how much better this machine works. It's got power to spare and the spiral dough hook is orders of magnitude better than the hook-shaped model. I'm also a big fan of the larger capacity bowl. If I had one criticism, it's the difficulty posed by securing the bowl to the machine. There's a bit of resistance there for sure, but on the other hand, I'm sure the bowl won't come loose during mixing of kneading. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
