I've had professional culinary training but had held off on buying my own stand mixer for home use for a long time. I've been researching them and finally reached a decision to buy the KitchenAid Pro 600 6-Qt mixer after talking with a woman who owns her own restaurant and said that she has used hers to bake for her restaurant every day for 10 years and that it is still going strong. I looked at it as a long-term investment that I could feel good about.
I like the large capacity, strong motor and Soft Start mixing feature, along with its expandability with options for lots of attachments. I used it to make multiple batches of bread and of cookies for the holidays, and it cranked right through the large batches with ease. My sister borrowed it to do the same and now wants one of her own. It is also quieter than other stand mixers I've encountered.
I opted to spend just a little more to get the 6-qt model and am glad I did. My only regret is in having waited for so long to invest in one of these - I wish I had done so sooner.

If you are going to use this to bake a lot, DON'T BOTHER!
My customer service person told me that when I mixed a recipe for one loaf of bread that I had to much in my mixer. What do they mean by heavy duty Professional. Not . They do replace your mixer but if it goes to much thats it no more. The week before Easter I had 5 Professional Machines in my house and the only one that worked right was the one that I browed from my Daughter.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Toni1948 Great Mixer!!
This mixer has been spectacular, and has exceeded all my expectations. I love it for mixing cake and cookie batters!! It's so powerful, that it doesn't take long to mix the ingredients properly. If my recipes don't turn out, I can't blame the equipment!!

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by IanW Disposable Product. Bad Kitchenaid Customer Service
Bought this product for the KitchenAid name--have since learned my lesson. Product lasted two years being used barely to half capacity, then the gears just stopped working. When I contacted Kitchenaid, they surprised me by really not caring an ounce. They would not help me an iota because it was beyond warranty--unless I'd shell out more money to them to fix it. They even tried to make is sound like it was my fault. They claimed that the 14 cup maximum is INCLUDING all ingredients, when their manual clearly says you can use recipes that call for 14 cups of flour (ASIDE from all the other ingredients). When I told them that, they quickly changed tact. Said I was probably leaving it running too long...I have another mixer in a comparable price-point that I use super-heavily, and have never had a problem with that in years. If you're looking for a product that isn't disposable--and if you'd like the company you're buying from to care about what happens to you even after the 1 year warranty--I'd recommend avoiding this product, and Kitchenaid.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Christina I LOVE MY MIXER!!
I have had my mixer for almost 2 years. I use it all of the time. I know if I am baking, I can depend on my kitchen aid mixer for tasks a hand held mixer couldn't handle. The holidays, birthdays and other special occasions are so much easier with this mixer. This is a purchase I do not regret and I show it off all of the time. The only thing I wish is this one came with the glass bowl. However, I am not sure the glass mixing bowl was available then. I have also purchased the kitchen aid hand mixer and grinder attachment. Although I've yet to use the grinder my stand and hand mixers are great quality and a smart buy.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Paulette cheap attachments
I got the Professional 600 stand mixer to replace my Artisan tilt head mixer. The Professional is bigger, more powerful (I burned the motor out on the Artisan) and mixes beautifully. The accessories I had for the previous mixer (meat grinder, juicer, etc.) work fine on the new one. My only complaint is that the attachments for the 600 are "burnished metal" rather than stainless steel. And why doesn't the paddle scraper beater available for the smaller mixers come in a size that fits the 600? It seems like Kitchen Aid cheaped out on the attachments, and on a mixer that costs as much as this one I just don't get it.
