Customer Questions & Answers

What is the degree of the bend when the handle is straight up?

What is the degree of the bend when the handle is straight up?
Asked by: Andrew
The bender has a clearly marked bend angles cast into the head (except 90 degrees). The handle centerline is the bend point ( star mark). Insert the conduit in the head and align the spot you want to start your angle bend and pull the handle until the head contacts the conduit at the desired angle mark. Try it a few times and you'll get the hang of it. Its not a "precision" instrument. Its for bending conduit to relatively close angles, not making precise angles.

will this bend copper pipe?

will this bend copper pipe?
Asked by: cloe
I have only used it to bend hard temper type "M" copper. Most copper pipe is designed for angle connectors and not bends such as this tool makes. For soft copper tubing or pipe there are other tools designed for that purpose. Look at the Klein Tools Professional 90 Degree 4-in-1 Tube Bender sold at HD. It will bend up to 3/8" and I have used it to bend copper pipe (soft) in a pinch but it works great on tubing. Hope this helps'

I kept an identical version of this conduit bender in my work truck for many years for professional jobs. The bender that I got says it is a 3/4" model and not just 1/2" capacity. You will want to get the 3/4" model as it is more versatile. There are cursory instructions on the handle but no actual "how to bend conduit" instructions. Kleintools.com does have those instructions on their website under the "Resources" tab. It is clearly marked for bend angles and will accommodate both 1/2" and 3/4" with ease. The fact that a substantial handle is included is important because you need good leverage when making bends, especially in 3/4" conduit. This is not a iron pipe bender, nor is it designed to bend soft copper tube or pipe but I have used it to bend "M" type or hard temper copper with success. Made like tank but light enough for my wife to use. Made in the USA and an excellent value!

Used it to run some conduit in the garage for some extra lighting. Did 90's, offsets and a few compound angles. It worked fine. Sturdy and online user guide was helpful.

Used this bender to make several trellises for my garden planters (the idea for the trellis was from "The New Square Foot Gardner" by Mel Bartholomew). The bender has a "star" mark on it which ends up as the inside edge of a 90 degree bend so its fairly easy to make a trellis of a particular length. If you make a bend on both ends of a piece of conduit you need to clamp your first bend or have someone hold it so the second bend is in the same plane as the first. Nicely made tool. Will last for years. Even if I never use it again, it cost less than the 90 degree pieces I would have had to purchase to make the trellises. I fastened the conduit to the planters with 1/2 inch conduit clamps.

Although I only needed to make 6 - 45 deg. bends in 3 pieces of 1/2" emt conduit, the cost was quite reasonable considering the other option I was considering, that turned out not able to work. It's of high quality and allows quality, consistent, repeatable bends.
