I can't count the number of times this tool has saved me a trip out to the truck for a simple thread repair, it does not work in situations where you don't have a through hole, but in any situation that you have a through hole with damaged threads, or you need to put threads in drilled hole it works great!

This is a fine tool unless you are unfamiliar with how brittle is the shank. When I retapped a metal outlet box embedded in my house's exterior brick wall, I discovered that the threaded tip will snap and remain in the hole if you are not extremely careful to keep the tool perpendicular to the surface of the box. You have to concentrate while on a ladder and attempting to twist the hand tool concentric to its z-axis. Electrician friends of mine have reported similar experiences.

Even new boxes can have tight holes when switching to longer screws to mount devices. This clears the holes and makes it easy to mount equipment. I clear the holes all the time when working on a ceiling job before mounting the boxes. Don't force it and let the cutting edges do the work. Be sure to back turn when cutting just like a tap set.

This tool is great for any electrician. It cleans mortar fill bow screw holes and you can tap a 6/32 up to a 1/4. That takes a little time. Be careful though, you can break the 6/32 easy. When not in use, store it with the 1/4 side out and the 6/32 side in. Keep it clean with spray lube.
