Answer:
The meter would be fine for voltage, resistance, and continuity tests. You'd probably also want a separate DC clamp ammeter, since this meter is limited to 10A.
And in case you're wondering, the separate voltage sensor tool in the kit is strictly for 50-1000V AC.

Answer:
Depending on the distance required, it might or not work. To trace a circuit, you need one lead connected at one place and the then touch the other lead at the points you mention. Please post this question again so we can understand what you mean by The box, The circuit, and The line.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Value I needed a multimeter to test the lines of my HVAC system. This test kit was hands down the best value at my local HD. The multimeter is rugged and high quality but you also get a non-contact voltage tester and a receptacle tester for what other brands charged for just the multimeter. For as many DIY projects I do, I'm not sure why I have not purchased this already. June 22, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A Must-Have for DIYers This kit is an absolute must-have for anyone trying to do their own electrical work. As a novice with electric repairs and projects this set of tools has come in extremely handy and saved quite a few shocks and headaches. All three pieces are very well-made and easy to use. The non-contact tester and the plug tester are very straightforward to use, especially after a quick read through the included instruction book. The multimeter is extremely nice and the included manual really helps novices like me get the most out a very versatile tool. I'd highly recommend this kit to any homeowner April 11, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Electrical work basics Affordable kit does the job. Full meter is standard, effective. Outlet tester is great - lights visible both sides, handy for upside-down outlets or awkward spaces. Current tester pen is a great way to avoid a nasty shock from unexpectedly live wires when investigating mystery hidden wiring or even just doing normal work (are you SURE you turned off the right breaker?) Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfectl! Handy, well designed and high quality! Perfect gift too! The kit includes 3 testers. MULTI-METER uses 2 AAA batteries. It feels substantial with its rubber armor-like case; and sports a large ¾” display with handy “hold button” that maintains the reading after removing probes. There are both 1.5V and 9V battery settings; a nifty audible feature; and case with molded storage spots for probe leads. Leads are about 3-ft long and flexible, with sculpted, rubberized probe handles. OUTLET TESTER simply plugs in for an easy check, no battery needed. Wish we would have had this during our house remodel when searching for a short that kept kicking a breaker! Indicator lights for: open ground, open neutral, open hot, hot & ground reversed, hot & neutral reversed, correctly wired. VERY handy! NON-CONTACT VOLTAGE TESTER uses 2 AAA batteries (included) and is very handy for safely checking AC power cords, appliances, etc. without actually touching bare wire to test for spark or voltage (or penetrating the insulation). Has both audible and silent modes. March 8, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice electrical tester set I got this set so I can safely work on small projects around my home and rental property. I’m not an electrician so this set is perfect for my basic needs. It includes 3 testing tools, all required batteries and operating instructions. I’ve already used them all and they all work well. I’ll try to describe them separately to the best of my knowledge. 1. Outlet / Receptacle tester (RT105) Super easy to use tool. It simply plugs right into the outlet and up to three lights go on in various arrangements depending on the wiring in the outlet. There is a chart right on the tester that shows the different wiring possibilities / mistakes or if all the wiring is correct. 2. Non-Contact Voltage Tester (NCVT-1) This tool detects and alerts about live voltage or current in an outlet or live wires. To use it, press the power button for ½ a second to turn it on – it beeps once and a green light turns on. The green LED light stays on to provide illumination in dark places. Press the power button again and it beeps twice and the green light turns off. There is also a silent mode. While it’s on, using the tip simply touch any wire to check if it’s live or put the plastic tip inside the HOT (smaller flat) hole of the outlet. If live a red light will turn on instead of the green and the tester will beep continuously alerting you of a live current. 2 AAA batteries were already installed and are easy to replace. The batteries are a bit loose inside. Although it doesn’t affect performance the rattling is a bit annoying. 3. Manual-Ranging Digital Multimeter (MM300) This tool measures different AC/DC voltages, DC current and resistance. I can also be used to test batteries and other electronic devices. Again, I’m not an electrician so I can’t go into much detail about this tool. But I do know that it is manual and not automatic. That means that the correct setting must be selected on the dial prior to testing. There are two replaceable fuses inside. Also, when finished, it must be set back to OFF, otherwise the batteries will drain even of not in use. It also uses 2 AAA batteries which were provided. I tested a few different batteries with it and it displayed the correct voltage for all within a few percent. On the back side there is a kick stand with a rubberized bottom. Although a nice feature, that kick stand does feel a bit flimsy. Another thing I wish was different is the battery compartment. Instead of it having a clip or a slide lock, there is a small screw that must be removed to access the batteries. Could be somewhat of an inconvenience if you don’t have that size screw-driver on hand and need the batteries replaced. The whole tool is encased in a rubberized orange shell for protection and good grip. Also on the back as part of the shell, there are two molded slots for the leads (testing tips). Overall this is a nice set for all my electrical testing needs. The set I got had newer / updated models compared to what’s listed. So the description of it on the HD site needs to be updated to reflect the new model #’s. It says that they’re all drop tested and protected up to the specified heights. Good to know that Klein Tools took that extra step. Wish that some sort of a storage pouch or bag was provided. Still a good deal though at $36 considering that buying all three separately would cost $49. I would definitely recommend this set to anyone. March 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Economical and easy to use electric test set - a must have! This kit has three Klein Tools electrical testers – a general use multimeter that measures AC and DC volts up to 600 volts, DC amps up to 10 amps, resistance in ohms, and tests batteries with two supplied probes. The meter has a hold feature as well. The second tester is a plug in outlet tester, and the third a surface contact current detector. The plug in outlet tester uses lights on the front to indicate whether the plug is wired correctly and is hot. It will also display revered polarity, open ground, open neutral, and open hot for a quick diagnostics of your outlets. The gem of this set is the contact current detector. It is very easy to use, you turn it on with the press of a button and the plastic shielded tip lights up green. If you place the tip near a live circuit, then the unit beeps and the light turns red. You don’t have to touch a bare wire probe to a bare wire – just place the probe in immediate proximity and it will detect current through a standard cord, in circuit breakers, light fixtures, etc. See the video on how it works. Very effective and safe way to tell if something is “live”. This kit is economical from a well know name in the business and provides the average homeowner or pro with the essential tools needed to assess most electric situations, even testing the charge condition of household batteries. Two year warranty. March 1, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Complete set for electrical testing My husband has wanted one of these electrical testing sets for a long time. This kit comes with all three tools in one set. The digital multimeter is very easy to use to diagnose a wide range of electrical problems. The digital numbers are large and very easy to read. The set comes with two batteries used for this meter, and two for the voltage tester. The non-contact voltage tester works perfectly to locate AC voltage to diagnose any electrical problems. The third item in the kit is the receptacle tester, which easily checks wiring problems in standard outlets. It was easy for us to use to see if we had issues in our basement receptacles. Each of these tools is very easy to use and instructions are also included in the pack-up. I think this is also a great set for a homeowner as a housewarming gift. This is one of those sets that you are happy to have when you run into issues in the home. February 20, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by No Shock Here What a great set of electrical tools, For a DIY;er or a professional this is a good set to have. The circuit tester lets you know whether you have thrown the right breaker or not so you don’t get bit. Red for hot line and green for cold or no hot wires. The small plug in tester tells you whether you have wired or someone else wired the plug in correctly. This plug device can save a lot of headaches later down the road, especially when the building inspector pulls one out and checks the plug-en. The meter has a nice set of leads that attach on the front it can check resistance, conductivity and voltage along with checking batteries from D cell to AAA. The Dial indicator tells you which mode you are in and it is easy to use and read. Easy to read face and it seems to take falls pretty good, so far. I have dropped it from 15 feet and it looks and acts like it is still operational. This is a small meter and good for the tool belt for quick checks. Nice to have when you need to check a circuit or insure conductivity or even check the battery in a tool. February 29, 2016
