Customer Questions & Answers

What is the largest gauge wire this will cut? I will use it to cut a welded wire fence. I don't know the gauge, but it is probably 12 or 14.

Asked by: sassenach
This will cut 10 gauge wire at the max. It's range is 10 - 20 gauge.

They seem to be good quality and feel good, but the stripper sizes are just a bit too large. I use them to cut 16-12 AWG solid and stranded, and they never cut through cleanly. I always have to go to the next smaller size and gently not-quite-close it, in order to get through the insulation. Seriously, 19 times out of 20, if I don't do this, I can close the stripper tightly at the listed AWG, pull like heck, and still the insulation won't come off. And I have checked carefully that I'm not using the stranded-wire side for solid-wire. It's the stripper, not me. But the cutter is very nice -- but I have plenty of other plier that can cut wire cleanly, I need a reliable stripper.

I have been purchasing these stripper pliers for years, the quality of the product deteriorated over the past few years. The quality of the steel used to make the cutter is too soft and will not hold an edge, I never cut wire over size 10 AWG stranded and the cutters look like I have been cutting nails. the other drawback is the tool is riveted together which does not allow for adjustment over time, not that they last that long.
