Thanks to Edith I now have a box that locks. I bashed this box in my review (1 of 5 stars) and in answering the questions. Thanks to Edith's answer, I was able to fit my 5T lock in the cut-out by inserting from the inside of the lock box as opposed to trying to insert from the outside of the box.
So happy that my box can finally lock!

Answer:
Mike is right: the Home Depot sku # is 574-391 (model # m5xtccsen). The key factor is to hook the lock into the hardware provided and it slides into the slot from inside the box. Padlock remains permanently inside lock compartment and cannot be removed (except by you).

Answer:
Master Model # M5XTCCSEN are the locks I used from Home Depot. Any similarly sized lock should work. The trick is to insert the lock through the inside of the box. If you attempt to insert the lock through the outside, it will not fit.

Since you already bought this one, I suggest this. Get a small diameter inner tube, slit lengthwise, and glue it over the hinge on both sides, that allows it to flex/fold when open. Read Less

Even a call to Klein gave us only the" Masterlock #5". We need more information- a specification- for the lock. Number 5 indicates the strength, not the dimensions. Is there not a NAME or some LABEL to to grab off the shelf?
Thanks.
Should it be sold along with the box????

Rated 3.6 out of 5 by 22 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Overall, an excellent box. (See review for lock info). The only criticism I have with it are some of the welds are not very solid. For those wondering about lock installation - I wanted something a little more secure than the sub-par Master #5 and the American A50 fit the bill. The American is a perfect fit and is widely available for just a little more than the Master. The American is also available in a steel pin/bump-resistant variant (A50HS) and also a rekeyable version with 6-pins (A6260). Although I have not tried it, those looking for even greater security may want to try the ABLOY PL340. Note that the lock needs to be inserted with the bracket installed from the inside of the cabinet. Here is a short video of the operation: http://bit.ly/29oV3NA A50: http://www.americanlock.com/solid_body_padlocks/solid_steel/non_rekeyable_padlocks.jsp A6260: http://www.americanlock.com/solid_body_padlocks/solid_steel/rectangular_padlocks.jsp July 5, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by WARNING DO NOT follow the instructions for installing the locks. It specified # 5 Master lock with minimum of 15/16" closed distance from the lock body to the inside of the loop. I installed one of these locks and NOW I CAN"T GET THE LID OPENED. I have to cut up the box lid to extract the lock. I followed the installation instructions DO NOT USE A #5 Master lock (and most likely, American # 50 as well). The minimum inside dimension specified by the lock for Master #5 is 3/4" Also the welded assembly on the box is poor. I have been a welder by trade for most of my life and have seen various weld qualities. I would be ashamed to put this on the market as a professional item. June 24, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Decent Tool Box & Master #175D Combo Locks Work Well I just bought 2 of the 24"x48" boxes. I read the horror stories of Master #5 locks (keyed) not fitting. After doing some home work and a test I found that Master 175D combo locks work and fit very well inside the recessed area. Simple to mount, they appear to be slightly thinner in the body of the lock compared to #5, but NO KEY is exactly what I was looking for. Master #175 D combo locks with 1" shackle clearance are the ticket. July 20, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Klein tool chest I picked this up from Home Depot and was excited to open it up. But once open the excitement went away. First it was ding up. Second it had a klein sticker. Third it didn't have a long shelf like my ridged chest. I love klein but the lost on this one. June 21, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Just what I was looking for I read several of the reviews on this chest before purchasing and was concerned because some seemed to have issues finding a suitable lock. I bought the Master Magnum locks as described in one of the answered questions and they worked fine. Any Master or American lock of similar size should work. The problem I found the other reviewers to be having was probably a misunderstanding of the installation instructions. If you attempt to install the padlock by inserting it from the outside of the box, it will not fit. The lock must be attached to the locking clip and inserted from the inside of the box. The build quality is as expected for the price, but suits my needs just fine as an inexpensive gun chest to keep the children and unprepared criminals. May 27, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Doesn't meet my needs since the suggested locks don't fit I agree with a previous user ... "Box is OK, but Master Lock 5T does NOT fit. At least one side does not fit. It's too fat from front to back.". I bought the lock (Master Lock 5T) recommended on this site and found that it's too fat front-to-back to fit in the rectangle cut-out on the box where it is to be used. That was AFTER I had already purchased and tried the Master Lock M5XTCCSEN. The Home Depot employee assured me that it would fit. It didn't. I like the features of this box, it's sturdiness, the shelf on the left side for smaller items, etc. If you want a box to put stuff in, this is great. But I bought this item so that I can LOCK UP items. I'd give this zero stars if I could since the suggested locks don't fit. May 19, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Very poor instructions on locking the box. Box ok but cannot find locks that will work. The number of the lock that suppose to work does not correspond with any numbers listed on Master Lock's Dual paks. Have bought 3 sets of locks that don' work. I bought locks at Home Depot that the salesman said would work and took the Pad lock installatioin instructions with me so that they could see the size needed but when I got home they did not fit. I tried 2 more independent hardware stores and had the same problem. Home depot should increase the price of the box by $20.00 dollars and supply a working lock. November 21, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Meh Box is OK, but Master Lock 5T does NOT fit. At least one side does not fit. It's too fat from front to back. Might be a fit anf finish issue. Whatever, I don't care. Getting a bit irritated buying locks on a trial and error basis. Many trips to the hardware store and back!!! November 16, 2015
