Answer: 
This product will not test for that. It test the cable and cable connections, not what is transmitted on the cable.

Answer: 
The tester cannot determine which cable is providing internet by the signal coming from it. What I'd recommend is going to your cables distribution box, and find which cable is coming from your internet provider, disconnecting it, and placing one of the colored shunts on it. Then go to the the cables in your home, and this will trace which cable was providing internet.

It depends on how you are getting your Internet. Does your Internet come through a cable company, AT&T, etc? This only tests for coaxial, or cable lines. If you're getting service through cable this will help find what line is what. Once you hooked up your line to the homerun ( line from source to your house ), you should be able to hook up your "box" to any line. You have to consider signal levels and Read More

Answer: 
The VDV Coax Explorer + tester is for testing coaxial cables only, and cannot be used for testing RJ45 style CAT 5 or CAT 6 typical internet connection cable.
Either of the following products: VDV LAN Scout Jr, model # VDV526-052 or VDV Scout Pro 2, model # VDV501-823R can address this application. Both of these are carried by THD and are available in-store.

A battery is required...but its built inside the product. So when the battery dies, you need to buy another one.

It comes with batteries. The only drawback is they're not replaceable, and only good for 5-years.

No, this tester is used to check for open or short faults and identify locations. It does not test signals.
