Product Overview

The Koolatron P-85 Krusader Cooler uses a 12 Volt thermoelectric module powered by cigarette lighter in your vehicle to cool your favorite drinks and snacks to 45 to 50 Fahrenheit degrees below the ambient temperature. The P-85 Krusader Cooler is the largest 12 Volt cooler available. It fits 80 (12 oz.) cans and is great for large families or serious tailgating. Koolatron 12 Volt Coolers and Warmers will heat or cool your lunch and beverages. You can use Koolatron 12 Volt Coolers in your car, RV, boat, truck, dorm or just at home as spare fridge. So while you relax and enjoy quiet, dependable 12 Volt cooling, other campers and drivers are stuck in the "Ice Age", standing in line to buy overpriced ice or driving from store to store looking for an ice. By reversing the power cord you can also turn the Koolatron P-85 Krusader into a warmer to keep "fast food" or "take out food" hot on the way home. Take a full load of hot chocolate or coffee to the gang in winter or a hot casserole and other hot foods to family gatherings. The P-85 Krusader is so versatile you'll never want to leave home without it.

Answer:
Yes it can, but it requires an AC to 12 volt DC power adapter that is capable of supplying 12 volts DC at at least 5 amps. Koolatron Model AC15 is available at Home Depot for $21.00. It is available online, but I don't know if it's available in store.

question regarding danger of running car battery down

I am confused about the warning that the car battery could run down if cooler is left plugged in when car is off for extended time. Doesn't the plug in the car also turn off when the car is turned off. When we plug in a portable gps to our car, the gps goes off when we turn off the car. I am assuming the power to that 12 volt plug is not operational when car is off. Please clarify this for me. My car is a 2014 Mazda cx9

Answer:
It depends on the vehicle. Some vehicles have an automatic shut-off so anything plugged into the 12v outlet will not drain the battery. If it does not have an uatomatic shut-off and the cooler is still operating after you shut-off the vehicle then it would drain the battery completely dead in approximately 4 hours.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good chiller for the car Great for shopping. Holds 6 frozen pizzas, and on the way homekeeps them from thawing. August 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great cooler We traveled from NC to NV and back and this cooler kept everything refrigerator cold the whole trip. We used it in our hotel room with an optional power converter. June 28, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Cooler Had one I purchased around 1983. It finally quit. So I purchased another. Hope it lasts a long time....as the last one did. June 7, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Suits my needs well We live a long distance from, "reasonable" grocery shopping. This cooler keeps the perishable items cool for the long trip home without the hassle of melting ice. August 18, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Krusader cooler The cooler is very nice looking and has a lot of room. I am disappointed on the cooler because of how it does not get cold........... cold. It just gets a little cold. I had the cooler dial turned all the way to the blue dot. I wish it had a temperature control to get it to cold .....cold. Nice unit but does not get items really cold.. Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Cheap Cooler Product arrived in factory sealed carton but was missing two parts: 1. 12v power cord, 2. internal shelf divider. Home Depot customer service did contact the manufacturer to obtain the missing parts. Manufacturer response was extremely slow. Missing parts were eventually received. While the product does function as a cooler, the overall quality of materials and assembly is poor. It is not likely that the product will provide long term service, especially during the hot summers along the Gulf Coast. February 25, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by As Advertised Basically, as advertised. Versatile, pre-cool in house with AC adaptor then transfer to car for transporting to destination. Would be better if you could select temperature to cool to. It goes about 40 degrees under outside temperature. We have our house at 70 so first night it cooled cooler to 30 degrees and cans of soda started to freeze. Also used at a cottage outside where temp was 95 therefore only cooled soda to 55. So using in 75-90 degree external temp is a little limiting. But does work as advertised. AC adaptor is a must in my opinion and is sort of pricey. August 2, 2011
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent cooling (or heating) power and convenient capacity! Replaced our aging worn-out Rubbermaid with the Koolatron P85. Dimensions conveniently hold 2L Coke bottles upright, plus all the food we wanted to bring to the beach. Placed frozen meals in bottom, refrigerated foods on top. Frozen meals still frozen after 14 hour drive. Be sure to plug in with arrow pointing to blue dot for cold. Pointed to red by mistake, and quickly proved how HOT interior could get. (not a feature we use, but clearly very powerful for those who need this). September 24, 2012
