is this safe for koi fish?

is this safe for fish?
Asked by: dancingspirit
Dear Valued HomeDepot Customer, We reached out to the MFG for more information and below is their response. "Yes, it is safe for fish provided that you follow the instructions shown below. Please see the following information: KSPK pond kit liner: made of PVC, fish friendly, non toxic to aquatic life, thickness is 21 mil, dimension differs on pond kit size Note: The standard height for the fountain spray is the maximum length of the telescopic riser. In this case, it is approximately 12" from the top of the pump for a waterbell fountain spray which, depending on the depth of the pond, will determine how high the riser and fountain head will be from the top of the water level in the pond. Using a 3 tier fountain head that sprays upwards will give an extra 6" in the height of the spray from the top of the fountain head. Putting a brick under the pump to raise it higher, but ensuring that the pump is fully submerged in water, will increase the height of the fountain spray. Maintenance: Clean the pump regularly to prevent build up. If the pump stops working, unplug it and take it out of the pond. If there is a lot of calcium build up on the pump it may stop working. To clean, simply place the pump motor (remove attachments) in vinegar water then plug it in. Let the pump run for about 30 seconds. Once cleaned, rinse your pump with water and place back in the pond. Winter: During the fall months, the pond should be kept free from fallen leaves and other debris that may rot and cause harmful toxins in the pond. Once the temperature falls to 43 F (6 C) outside, it is time to winterize the pond. Remove any submersible pumps and clean them for winter storage. If you have fish, you need to add a Pond Breather or Floating Pond Heater to circulate oxygen and release toxic gases. After the pond has been winterized and the ice has formed, there isn't much to be done. The fish will naturally go to deeper depths of the pond where the water is warmer and require no feeding during these cold months. NEVER ALLOW WATER TO FREEZE IN THE PUMP. A filter is not required for regular goldfish but for any other types of fish, customer should consult with local pet store.

Head pressure and flow?

Can I attach a 3; or 4' long hose and run a small 2'-3' high waterfall?
Asked by: Dobie
Dear Valued Home Depot Customer, We reached out to the MFG for more information and below is their response. "For a Waterfall:Place clamp over tubing. Fit tubing over diverter. Tighten clamp over tubing with a flat head screwdriver. That depends of what you're attaching the hose to. Depends on the power of pump you are using. For any pond information Please consult a pond specialist or local pond supply store that may assist you with all the accessories and options for your pond needs"

Customer Reviews

84 gal. Pond Kit is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Weak pump The picture of the pump before I purchased it looked a lot larger. It's tiny and can hardly push the water. Also, the plastic pipe that connects to this pump doesn't stay snapped into the pump. I have to buy a better pump now.
