Answer:
No, you can use any other cabinet screws although the Kreg screws are very good. I use screws made by GRK that Home Depot also sells. They come in the same sizes that Kreg sells. They work just as well but have a different head style. Kreg uses a square head driver and GRK uses a star driver (Torx T-15 I believe).

To answer your question, NO. You can purchase cabinet screws that will do the same thing. For example, if you are using Kreg Pocket-Hole screws that are 2 1/2" long you can use cabinet screws made by GRK Fasteners that are 2 1/2" also. GRK makes all kids of cabinet screws in different lengths. The only difference is the driver you have to use will be different. The Kreg screws use a square driver and GRK Read More

GRK makes all kids of cabinet screws in different lengths. The only difference is the driver you have to use will be different. The Kreg screws use a square driver and GRK uses a "star" driver, included in the package when you buy them. The "star" head is actually a torx head in size T-15 I believe. The only potential problem is the fact that you may need a longer star driver because the one that comes in the package of screws in only an inch long. Kreg supplies their square driver in a 6" length. I haven't looked to see if Home Depot sells a 6" long star driver yet. If they don't you can always buy a Torx T-15 screw driver and use that.
One other thing you may notice with the Kreg screws is that some are chrome colored and others are coated blue. The chrome color is for indoor projects (not exposed to outside elements which can cause rust over time). The blue coated screws are for outdoor projects. The blue coating prevents any problems with rusting or staining. GRK comes in a gold color and I've used them for outdoor projects and have not had any issues as of yet. Hope this helps. Read Less

Answer:
You could probably use a wood screw that was the correct length for the thickness for the wood you are using, but the Kreg screws are super and well worth the investment. When I make something I want it to last.

I see via your ad that the jig is also available at $99. I'd like to know the difference between the "Jig Master System" and the less expensive version. In particular, what are the items that are included in the Master System and not in the jig alone?

Thanks!

I believe the sets you're referring to are the same except the Master System has a portable jig and clamp where the smaller set doesn't.

Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 54 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by BEST INVESTMENT EVER FOR WOODWORKING PROJECTS Just bought this 2 weeks ago for some projects I wanted to make. I had plans for a bench that is made out of 2x4s and wanted a system to make the process easier. I would normally use lap joints or other methods of joining wood pieces together, but this takes a long time and has to be perfect. The bench only took me about 30 minutes to put together after cutting all the pieces to size. THIS HAS TO BE THE EASIEST WAY OF JOINING WOOD! Not to mention the joints being extremely strong, and add gorilla glue to make the joints even stronger. I also used the Kreg pocket-hole screws for the joints, which are basically cabinet screws. The Kreg screws are awesome, yet on the expensive side but well worth it. If you are looking for an easy way to join wood together this is it. You will not be disappointed at all. I have already recommended this to my friends who are into woodworking. If you are thinking of getting this product, get the kit that includes everything. April 26, 2016

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Product There are cheaper alternatives to this.. however the Kreg jigs are better made and there are reasons why professional cabinet makers use them. Yes I can do mortise and tenon and I also have a biscuit joiner but this works too.. The best use of this product in project of mine have been for making table tops, and courter tops. With this you can make wide table tops using edge glued boards.. and every board is clamped together. Unlike using a biscuit joiner since they are all clamped individually the top stays flat in spite of pressure. Using clamps result in the top curving without bars on top and bottom to prevent it curving. This can make tops so tight you have to look very hard to even see joints. I have built everything from cabinets to vanity's, to dining table tops that seat 12 people. Attached is an example of top of an end table hat I made. There are 8 separate boards in this top. Joints are very tight thanks to Kreg.. no clamps and all made from scrap wood. And that was just #2 construction lumber, not some fancy lumber. I could easily sell this table at a rustic furniture store for $200.. total cost to make $9. Someone showed a broken bit in a photo.. I have drilled thousands of holes and never had an issue with a bit. My biscuit joiner is collecting dust since I got this. March 22, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Jig master system the drill bit is not strong enough the tip broke off after a few uses. the should be making them with a stronger material, I now have to buy a couple just in case one breaks, I was left in the middle of my now incomplete project. June 16, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very user friendly. You pay a lot for this product but it's worth it and so easy to use.. April 6, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Where is the case? I would give this a 5 star rating but the video is misleading because it says the jig master system comes with a case. It is shown in the video and I expected to get one with this purchase. Where is my case Home Depot and Kreg? February 5, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by DYI dream Had this for a week. Making a train table for my for grandkids for Christmas. This jig has made it so much easier and the table is really sturdy. This is my second project. The first was a work bench with no jig...wish I had it sooner. December 19, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent tool Everything is included to get started. Very easy to use. When coupled with the screw kit, ready to begin having fun right out of the box. December 11, 2015
