Answer:
You could probably use any wood screws, but I would recommend using Kreg's screws. They have different lengths based on the thickness of your materials, and different thread counts based on the hardness of your material. Home Depot sells them. I picked up a pack of 100 1 1/4" coarse screws to build my nightstands. I was using 3/4" soft, pine boards.

Answer:
Yes, you want screws that are threaded only part way. This way screw threaded only into one of the wood pieces, this makes a tighter joint and not to crack the wood.

The pocket hole screws work best. They have an aggressive bite and a broad flat head that won't cause the hole to split out.

Answer:
Yes. You have to use pocket hole screws, which are available in the same location as the jig in the store. The have an elevated head so you can drill them down into the pocket hole and maintain contact with the screw. They are well worth any slight added expense. Their ease of use is well worth it!

Answer:
This is recommended by the manufacturer (of course) and the screws are readily available at Home Depot or most stores. I'm sure other screws might work, you just need to find the correct size to match the Kreg screws. Try with some scrap wood.

Answer:
Hi Kevin,
The Kreg Jig is designed to use the Kreg screws which have a larger than normal screw head. This larger head will hold the joint together better than a regular screw would.

Answer:
Since the jig is used to drill the pocket hole, I would assume that drywall screws could be used, the one unknown is the size of the screw head.

They work fine. I have never used pocket hole screws with any of my multiple project over the years.
You can tell when the srews have firmed up the two pieces; just don't over-tighten.

They might work, but do not have the self tapping point like the kreg screws. Plus the Kreg screws cost about the same as DW screws.

Im not going to be using this all the time, just a few time a year when i decide to build something small. And me being a tightwad like i am, id rather spend $10 on a trigger clamp than say $20 or more for a kreg face clamp.

You could use the DeWalt trigger clamp as long as it is metal. The plastic trigger clamps do not provide enough gripping tension to secure the wood to drill the pocket hole. I understand trying to cut costs as much as possible, but sometimes tools only work as good as they're made. I have nothing against Harbor Freight and I buy a lot of cheap tools there, but they haven't worked as well as they should. Read More

I understand trying to cut costs as much as possible, but sometimes tools only work as good as they're made. I have nothing against Harbor Freight and I buy a lot of cheap tools there, but they haven't worked as well as they should. However, they do carry the metal clamp very similar to the Kreg clamp for half the price of the Kreg clamp. Just another option to check out. The main objective is to have the clamp lock it in place. No need for the kregg clamp I'm not. formillular with your clamp but any clamp will work as long as you have enough clearance for the drill and the depth. There is some very good video on the web under Greg pocket jig

Answer:
The free clamp is only available in specific packaging that was acquired for the black Friday sale. The package will show the clamp as part of the contents. The only way to get this particular deal is to pick it up in a store. If they're sold out, you're pretty much stuck, as HD won't comp you a free clamp with the standard package.

I saw that advertised too. I bought mine in store and was never offered a clamp.
However, not a huge loss as pretty much any clamp will work with it.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This worked GREAT! Everything came with the jig; stepped drill bit, stop collet and even some specialized screws. I've always just drilled these slanted holes by hand. This made it sooooooooo easy!! I was smiling while making all ten cabinet doors. The screws that came with it work best, but you don't get too many, so get more. I used other screws when I ran out and they worked OK, but I'd recommend getting more of the type that come with it. I'd definitely recommend this. I kept saying to myself(and my wife) "This is the best $40 I've ever spent!" August 23, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Solid, well rounded product This tool simplifies DIY furniture projects. It is well built and easy to use. There's also a great community of pocket hole enthusiasts to be found on the Kreg Tool website. I built a few bedside tables for our new home. It was a breeze, and so much fun! August 23, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Magical I have used many other methods of joining pieces of wood but this system is much quicker. Makes a good solid joint. September 3, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Should have bought it sooner! I wish I would have just shelled out the $ for this little tool in the first place. In conjunction with the Kreg clamp that fits into it, I drilled all of the pocket holes for 2 barstool chairs in less than an hour. And I'm completely new to furniture making. Put the chairs together and they look store bought. LOVE this thing! September 6, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A must for the beginner and the advanced builder! As a self-taught female woodworker this little tool has opened up endless possibilities to me. I started by deciding to build the farm table I have always wanted to buy but couldn't afford. This little tool opened up the world of woodworking to me. With it the complexity and intimidation of building is gone. With a good plan and this little jig I can conquer any project! Pocket holes eliminate the intimidation of complex joinery and this jig makes gauging and drilling them a piece of cake!! Since my farm table I have gone on to build at least 13 other projects for my self and have commissions coming in for farm tables....all thanks to this little tool!! February 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Amazing joint strength I'm so impressed with this product, very strong joints love it! May 6, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best $40 you'll ever spend im not a big professional carpenter, but i do enjoy building stuff in the garage, and this was hands down the best $40 ive ever spent! September 6, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Handy tool I've drilled close to a hundred holes with mine. It works fairly well. Worth every penny. Buy the Kreg screws too. They're more expensive, but they're compatible with the long driver they supply, which I recommend using. August 16, 2016
