I'm new to woodworking but do I have to use specific screws or will just wood screws work with this to build a small end table with light wood?

Answer:
The pocket hole screws work best. They have an aggressive bite and a broad flat head that won't cause the hole to split out.

Answer:
Yes. You have to use pocket hole screws, which are available in the same location as the jig in the store. The have an elevated head so you can drill them down into the pocket hole and maintain contact with the screw. They are well worth any slight added expense. Their ease of use is well worth it!

Answer:
This is recommended by the manufacturer (of course) and the screws are readily available at Home Depot or most stores. I'm sure other screws might work, you just need to find the correct size to match the Kreg screws. Try with some scrap wood.

Answer:
Hi Kevin,
The Kreg Jig is designed to use the Kreg screws which have a larger than normal screw head. This larger head will hold the joint together better than a regular screw would.

Answer:
Since the jig is used to drill the pocket hole, I would assume that drywall screws could be used, the one unknown is the size of the screw head.

No. You must use the pocket hole screws that are available in the same aisle as the jig. Their ease of use makes any slight cost difference well worth it!

They work fine. I have never used pocket hole screws with any of my multiple project over the years.
You can tell when the srews have firmed up the two pieces; just don't over-tighten.

No; You could split the joint open. Pocket hole screws have a built in washer to stop the screw at the end of the pocket.

They might work, but do not have the self tapping point like the kreg screws. Plus the Kreg screws cost about the same as DW screws.

Answer:
The free clamp is only available in specific packaging that was acquired for the black Friday sale. The package will show the clamp as part of the contents. The only way to get this particular deal is to pick it up in a store. If they're sold out, you're pretty much stuck, as HD won't comp you a free clamp with the standard package.

I saw that advertised too. I bought mine in store and was never offered a clamp.
However, not a huge loss as pretty much any clamp will work with it.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Amazing joint strength I'm so impressed with this product, very strong joints love it! May 6, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A must for the beginner and the advanced builder! As a self-taught female woodworker this little tool has opened up endless possibilities to me. I started by deciding to build the farm table I have always wanted to buy but couldn't afford. This little tool opened up the world of woodworking to me. With it the complexity and intimidation of building is gone. With a good plan and this little jig I can conquer any project! Pocket holes eliminate the intimidation of complex joinery and this jig makes gauging and drilling them a piece of cake!! Since my farm table I have gone on to build at least 13 other projects for my self and have commissions coming in for farm tables....all thanks to this little tool!! February 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Amazing joining system! Used this to build a 'giant' spice rack with adjustable shelves for my wife from a sheet of Birch plywood and some trim pieces from Home Depot. Saved $50 over buying what she wanted to purchase, and works/fits much better. The Kreg made it a lot easier to attach the sides, didn't have to notch the edges for a solid joint. The joints were glued and hit with a few brads, then screwed together. The brads were needed to keep the wood from slipping when screwing together, I couldn't find my framing clamp (we just moved in.) A few mistakes attaching the trim, but that wasn't the Kreg's fault! Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by great tool for building furniture Easy to use tool to assemble furniture parts. Had never used this tool before and it worked great. January 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Kreg Pocket Jig Model R3 This pocket jig had really good reviews which is why I bought it. This is really a quick, easy and accurate system for drilling pocket holes. It had easy to follow directions and came with the drill bit, driver and screws and plugs. I would recommend buying the Kreg C clamp that is supposed to be used with this product. It really makes it easier to use and provides better clamping action that a regular wood clamp. I had all of my table angle brackets drilled and ready to use in under 15 minutes. Great product and I fully recommend it. May 22, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This is a must have if you want strong corners! This is a great "entry level" Kreg jig. Doesn't cost as much as some of the big guys, but comes in super handy for all sorts of projects (cabinets, boxes, cases, etc...). Beats the heck out of toe nailing... If you use this thing a bunch you'll have to buy more screws and probably also get new bits at some point, but so far I've been able to find them for pretty cheap. May 11, 2016
