Product Overview

Krud Kutter 1 gal. Rustex is a rust inhibiting coating which converts rusted metal overnight into a rust retarding, paintable surface. When applied, rust (iron oxide) is chemically changed to a hard substance that becomes a paintable surface. Increases paint adhesion and durability of the coating.

  • For use on rusted metal surfaces to eliminate rust and promote adhesion of a fresh coat of paint
  • Covers up to 300 sq ft per gallon
  • Before applying product, remove loose paint and heavy rust with a wire brush and clean surface well
  • Apply product directly to rusted area, wait overnight, apply primer undercoat and paint
  • Heavily rusted surfaces may need two coats applied
  • Surface is chemically changed to iron phosphate and will turn black following application
  • Excessive dew and humidity may prolong drying time and cause powdery buildup
  • Water-based, bio-degradable formula

Is there any special way to apply this? Or can I apply it with my Greaco pro magnum LTS 17 piston sprayer. Mind you that my sprayer is a $ 700.00 rig. But I have 2000 sq.ft. to cover. And if its just about cleaning then please do inform me.

Happy to help! Rust-Oleum Krud Kutter Rustex Rust Converter can not be applied with an airless sprayer. Apply directly to metal by brush, roller, mop or low-pressure sprayer only.

Can I use on a vehicle?

Rust mainly along rocker panels (lower edges of van)? Surface prep required?
Asked by: JayCee
Happy to help, JayCee! Rust-Oleum Krud Kutter Rustex Rust Converter should be applied directly to metal by brush, roller, mop, or low-pressure sprayer. Heavy rust may require two applications. We then recommending waiting overnight after the application and dusting off any loose powder. You can then apply your primer and paint.

After treating the rust what happens if it rains for the next 2 days

Asked by: Nybrn
After using Rust-Oleum Krud Kutter Rustex-Rust Converter, it is important to let it sit overnight before applying primer or paint. Exposure to excessive dew and humidity may prolong the drying time and cause powdery buildup.

After treating rusted area with rustex, do I need to prime the area before painting?

After treating rusted area with rustex, do I need to prime the area before painting?
Asked by: Bubba
While a primer isn't absolutely necessary after using Rust-Oleum Krud Kutter Rustex-Rust Converter, you'd be surprised how much of a difference it makes in most projects! Primers make colors pop, help topcoats adhere, and prepare surfaces like bare wood, metal, and rust before painting.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works as advertised After thoroughly sanding/wire brush the crusty rust, the fine rust was converted to a smooth dark finish suitable for priming and painting. Used during the repair of a car frame -this should insure that the repairs last a long time. The product is great, however, I had to order this online. This SHOULD be a product that is available in the paint department AT HOME DEPOT.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from does what it says Smells vinegary. Applied with brush strokes on angled high pitched roof, drips down by gravity, and catch before the chemical reacts. After dual coats on some areas that require it I will rinse off chalky residue or if it rains hard enough I will not wave to rinse off residue. Roof looks beautiful and antiqued with this application, was a light shade of gray and rusty before, now looks like a green dark gray shaded patina. Too bad I can't keep it that color because the tin roof will eventually have a white "elastomeric ( metal roof friendly )" coatings, later in the year.
