I bought two of these locks recently and both keysets opened both sets of locks. After carefully examining the keys, I realized both sets of keys are exactly the same. Shouldn't each key/lock combination be unique. Am I missing something?

Yes, that is true. They want you to re-key the locks with a new key. That is part of the reason why people buy this type of knob and deadbolt: you can make any standard key work with it when you follow the instructions.

if you look at package they have a key code on outside package so if you want locks with same key you can buy the same key code. ussually each box of locks has 2 to 4 locks that are all keyed alike. you can take one back and just make sure it has different code and problem solved!! hope this helps matt.

Matt,
The purpose of the set of keys is to allow you to re-key it to the existing house or business keys. This saves you from carrying around a key ring like Captain Kangaroo. They do not want you to use the keys that come with the set for anything but re-keying your lock set.

The boxes the keysets came in were probably matched. There's a number on the bottom so that you can buy sets that are keyed the same. Much like when you buy a masterlock, you can go through the box at the store and find at least 2 with the same key.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Kwikset Juno Satin Nickel Door Nob And Deadbolt set This is the third set of these that have bought. They are great for front and back door . With the smart key set you can make these work with nearly any other house key that you already have . This means that you can match existing front or back door key to fit your new lock set so no more fumbling around for the right key for your door because now one key will work on both of your doors . And they are very well made and about as secure as many much more expensive lock sets . Do yourself a favor and buy one of these the next time that you find yourself in need of a new lock set.
