The batteries last about 5 to 6 months. The only warning is that it starts to sound weak when it unlocks... If you do not change the batteries and continue to use it, eventually it will not open.

Answer:
Sort of depends on the door. I'd say if the section of the door where the lock is to mount is about the same thickness of a wooden door, then yes; but you will need the tools to drill appropriate sized holes for installation. Could (depending upon your abilities and availability of tools) get tricky.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Digital deadbolt replacement for conventional deadbolt The instructions for installation and set up of the digital deadbolt were clear and easy to follow. August 16, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by First time installing Electronic door lock Decided to replace a side entry garage door (30x80) and locks. Choose to go with a electronic lock. Key code is more convenient than making multiple spare keys for every family member. The lock works great as designed. For older snug fitting doors and door frames, make sure to allow the dead bolt plenty of room to fit correctly in the reception hole. The (2) three inch bolts that attach the dead bolt enclosure to the opposite door side, can thread strip easily. My recommendation is to hand thread and manually drive screw into place, rather than power screw. June 14, 2011

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by No Key Entree Combination Lock Never get locked out or lose a key again. Can have multiple combinations and change them when needed. Looks nice with the brushed nickel. January 31, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by In the early 2000's I bought a powerbolt. It was for my mother who has macular degeneration which is a lost of eye sight. It has been a life saver for her because she could not see well enough to get key into lock. I have been very pleased with the service of this lock and will buy another electronic device for her when needed. I also have rental property and we buy kwikset when we change. They are Smart Keys lock. Love all Kwikset locks. Thanks Kwikset [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] April 7, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy Peasy This lock has work flawlessly since the day we bought it, only having to replace the batteries. It's such a relief to know you are never locked out if you don't have a key. Having the ability to change the code after it's been given out to someone is also a nice feature. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] May 17, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I have had three of these keypad door opener without a key products and the number of years is many. They have eased household access as keys are no longer required and the combo can be changed so easily when required as wen a party should no longer have entry. This not written for $250 but to inform the manufacturer relative to one happy customer. April 27, 2016
