Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Thomas Had the 22" for a year & the ember retainer was still VERY functional & showed no signs of damage. I believe people have fire underneath this grate (like gas or something) because you're just not going to mess it up burning a normal hot fire from wood.
I wanted the grate to completely fit, so I ordered this. It actually says 27" on the label in-person, but it fit perfect. The ratio between ember retainer to grate is much greater with this size, so it catches more ember. This should last years & look great. Since it has total coverage now, the fires are hotter & more efficient.

Have already had a couple of fires with this new grate. It looks like it'll hold up just fine for foreseeable future. Very satisfied!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Anita good deal
This is not as heavy as some, but we burn hot fires, so I find they ALL melt and warp. Would rather buy this every couple of years rather than a more expensive one that warps, too. Delivered free. Easy choice. The "catcher" for smaller wood pieces does not last since it's more like a mesh, but it is helpful for awhile because it does keep the charred wood closer making subsequent fires easier to start. We have a gas lighter, but for some others, it might be more valuable.

I would not recommend this product. It was shipped to us on Dec. 14, 2015. It was a gift for my husband. The ember retainer did not hold up. It has already burnt down. No good.
I must tell you though, I am impressed with how well Home Depot placed my order and sent it.
We are happy with our fireplace screen. Placed at a different time.

The grate melted within two uses. Might be ok if you are using Duraflame but if you have a real fire...pass on this one.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by glenn for light weight occasional use
The mesh wire burns through is short order. The lack of a center grate support causes the bars to bend and sag in the center after continued high heat use.
We have a natural gas burner under the grate, and the steel grate framework has bent and is resting on gas pipe.
This is ok for light duty ambiance fires and grocery store logs, but not field cut wood for serious and regular room or house heating.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by LEDEngineer Too small and lightweight
Much too small and lightweight for a standard fireplace. Only holds one medium size log. The Ember Retainer is not a good feature; embers should fall to the floor to create a nice hot pile to keep the fire going and allow air to reach the bottom of the pile of logs. The Ember Retainer clogs up with small embers and blocks air flow.
The end result is a smokey fire that's hard to start since there's no airflow.
This might be ok if you burn grocery store fire logs, or just occasionally burn pine. But if you burn hardwoods in a big fireplace, this is grate doesn't do the job.
