I would say it is as quiet as most microwaves I have ever had. Of course, the 5 speed vent fan is loud.

Answer:
You can choose to vent it to the outside of the house or recirculate the air through a filter and back into the kitchen. I would say outside is better but you may not have a way to get access to the outside such as in an apartment or condo. It comes setup to recirculate the air.

1.7 cu. ft. Over the Range Convection Microwave in Stainless Steel is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 69.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from We like It! Our primary use is the microwave, but we have used the convection and combination microwave/convection functions. We are still in the "learning/experimentation phase" when using the combination mode. All in all we are very happy with this oven. One addition that would be very helpful, would be at backlighted control panel. It is dark and hard to read in lower light conditions. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth the extra for Convection. The microwave works exactly as expected. The convection is an added bonus; it truly works as a very good convection oven. Takes no time to pre-heat, bakes perfectly in 25% less time. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 3 out of 5 by from So, So Really not excited about the function of this unit. I bought it because I had other LG appliances. First off, I ordered this convection/microwave from Best Buy. After a month and 5 damaged units sent to me from their warehouse, I finally cancelled from Best Buy and ordered it from Home Depot. The very first unit from HD was not damaged. As far as operation, I don't think it heats to the temperature it has been set for. I baked a blueberry pie which required one hour for 1 1/2 hrs and it still wasn't done. I put the pie in the range oven and had to bake it for another 45 min.. I thought that convection ovens cooked at faster times. Grands' biscuits which normally take 20 min, take 30 min in this oven. The presets for heating dinner plates way over heat the food. I have to stop it before it automatically stops. All around, I have had bad experiences with LG products for the kitchen and laundry. LG doesn't stand behind their products very well. I reluctantly recommend this product but I don't know how the other brands do either. There are bad reviews on all of them. I guess the old saying stands: " They don't make them like they used to" I recommend highly to get the extended warranty as I will probably be calling Home Depot to calibrate this oven. Home Depot has been very good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well this was a surprise... Bought all new LG kitchen and laundry appliances due to the excellent reviews in several leading websites and consumer publications. I have yet to regret it! The stainless metal exteriors are a snap to clean, and each device feels solid, well thought out and constructed. The microwave purchase was a bit of an after thought. My old microwave was the only device from my original home purchase that I actually liked. I hated to see it go, but it was a hideous white that would not fit in at all with the new LG kitchen. So I ordered the largest available at Best Buy simply because the wattage of the LG's was no where near what my old unit was. This unit is rated around 1000 watts where my old one was 1600, so I was concerned about how well it would cook. The thought was quickly vanquished from my mind. After cooking two chickens and some popcorn I could immediately tell that technology has truly advanced from my 13 year old unit! The new features such as a built in convection oven (wow) just kind of spun me around. You can microwave WHILE cooking with convection for crisp AND fast!? I had NO idea this microwave (if you can call it just that) had combined two of my kitchen appliances into one. After using it for some time I can tell you its not quite as good as my toaster over at crisping, but the fact it can thaw, cook, crisp "close" to what my toaster oven does, in HALF the time... its a done deal. Bye toaster oven, hello counter space! Popcorn... my old unit did it great, this one... its just showing off! Throw any size in, the LG detects its size and starts popping. I stand by as it cooks to be sure it doesnt burn, and so far it hasnt. Several different brands (i love my popcorn...) have all come back just right. The only thing I wish was improved... its a small thing, the light bulb on the inside needs to be about twice as bright. I can barely see inside while it cooks. Energy savings all around compared to my old unit, but I will bump the wattage on the interior bulb next time its replaced. (if possible)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great features, and looks amazing! I love this microwave convection oven. I wanted a double oven range but did not like the idea of picking up heavy roast etc. on the lower level of the stove. I have baked with the convection oven and it cooked great, so I have two ovens without heating up the kitchen. I would like the light to be brighter,(can not see the food cooking). Very easy control panel and lots of short cuts. Popcorn feature works great.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Overall Solid Microwave This microwave came with the house I just bought a few months ago. As I stated in the title it is a solid microwave. I use it mainly to re-heat meals or make popcorn. Pros: 1. Multitasking - You can set the timer and still heat up something at the same time. If I am doing a large amount of cooking and need two timers (the oven and microwave), it is nice that I can heat something up in the microwave without having to cancel the timer. 2. Light: Nice bright light both inside and out. 3. Reheating - Food seems to be reheated evenly. Cons- 1. Popcorn button - this has never seemed to have worked properly no matter what kind of microwave. My popcorn burns using this button. I have tried it several times and just don't use it. 2. The low setting for the exhaust is still pretty loud. Hard to have a conversation in the kitchen, but the exhaust does a good job. 3. Placement of the start and stop buttons in my mind need to be switched. I am always hitting the stop instead of the start which is a bit annoying. Most people are cooking something for an even amount of minutes (no seconds) i.e. 1:00. When I put in 1:00, I instinctively want to hit the button right next to it (which is the stop). I guess because I am used to going left to right and up to down. So to go back up to hit the start button has taken some getting used to. But after some time, I got used to it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from TWO THUMBS DOWN I had no problem with the microwave part of this appliance. However, I purchased this machine more for the convection oven. Initially, I could not figure out why everything I prepared in the convection oven for the time recommended turned out less than half cook. I would double check my settings, and wait until the signal and readout told me the oven was preheated to the temperature I selected. Still, nothing at all was cooked, even if I added 15 more minutes to the cook time. I bought an oven thermometer to check the actual oven temperature opposed to what the readout was on the machine. First I checked the thermometer for accuracy by putting it in the oven of my gas range. It was perfectly in sync with the range. When testing the convection oven, I discovered that when 400 degrees was selected, the oven never heated to over 350 degrees. I then tested all temperature settings and found that never did the oven reach the setting selected. The temperature was from 40 to 60 degrees less then it should be. This machine was less then a year old and under full warranty so I called LG for service which they arranged. The serviceman ran several tests, then called LG to speak with a technician. He ran other tests at the direction of the technician and was told that the problem cannot be fixed so the machine will be replaced and that LG will contact me with a date. I never received a call, but the man who serviced the machine did. He told me that LG is not replacing the machine. He had no reason why. I called customer service and was told that the machine was running normally so it was not going to be replaced. I did not receive a response when I asked why doesn't the readout display the actual reading of the temperature in the oven, and why doesn't the User Manual address this if it is normal? I went to Home Depot and spoke with a salesman. He told me that he would look into this and get back to me. Around two hours later I got a call from the salesman who told me that I will be getting a call from LG about a delivery date for a new machine. I was very relieved. The new microwave was delivered and installed and this one had the same problems. I called Home Depot, they contacted LG and another machine was delivered and installed. This third microwave had the same issues as microwave one and two. I called Home Depot, they contacted LG and a fourth microwave was sent out. I asked the installer if we could test the machine prior to installing it. He set the convection oven for 400 degrees and 18 minutes later, the temperature in the oven was only 260 degrees. I called Home Depot and told them that the fourth microwave was even worse then the first three and that I do not want another microwave sent to me from LG. They asked me to come into the store and select a different microwave, which I did. I hope LG goes back to the drawing board to correct this issue before someone becomes very ill. My thanks to Home Depot for their help. .
