Customer Questions & Answers

If I set it to COOL (not dry) ...do I need to install the exhaust hose to the outside window at all?

Based on the Q and A it seems that the exhaust hose is only needed for the dry setting...otherwise, the tank just fills up and needs to be emptied every so often on the COOL setting. Is this correct?

How do you drain the water? Does it have to be connected to a drain, or is there a pan to empty?

Asked by: fifi99
Simply left the unit up period place it on those black call coasters that are made for a bed. And left the unit up 4 inches off the ground and then simply attach a plastic hose out the door. Way easier.

The first I purchased about 5 years ago, the second about three, both still running perfectly. Got a third to cool my living room since it beats using my central a/c. I don't cool my basement or 2 extra rooms. I guess I'm lucky living in Colorado with relatively low humidity so I've never had to empty the drains. Installed the third one in under 5 minutes and it cools beautifully. Not sure why so many people have problems with these. I'm 100% sold on LG. This 10,000 BTU cools my bedroom beautifully. A little loud yes, but I'll take some noise over trying to sleep in a hot bedroom. Thanks LG.

I purchased this to replace a unit that I had that was also a Lg portable AC, that died after 7 years. I like the old model more than this one even though it is basically the same unit. They both are 10000 BTU but the old unit would get the 240 sq foot room down into the 65 degree range even here in 105 Texas degree weather. This new Unit hasnt gotten the room below 71 and the Weather has not even reached 90 degress yet (so may have to update review later if it can't cool the room with hotter temps outside). The main thing I do not like about this new unit is the display lights stay on. I like the room completely dark and this gives of to much light for me. The unit does work but if you are used to the 10000 btu, you might want to go up a model or 2. IT does do its job, but not as good as previous model.

When it's really hot, you'll probably want to just sit in front of it because the stream of air is frustratingly narrow. Bought this one three summers ago because our poorly ventilated apartment was sweltering, and it's a reliable little necessary evil on hot nights. I like the auto-on/off feature, although I wish you could set it to a schedule instead of manually selecting the hours each time. The 2 fan speeds are basically the same, and both are LOUD. Super-duper loud. Like you have to crank the TV's volume all the way up to compete, it's so loud. And the noises it makes are strangely intricate. If you listen to it for a long time when you're falling asleep, you start hearing things in the hum, like how you hear the ocean when you put a shell up to your ear. I'm pretty sure it's trying to brainwash me using subliminal messages. Doesn't help that it looks like a little R2D2 sitting in the corner. It does get the job done, although at a cost, and it's still going strong after 3 summers. All hail our robot overlords. What - who said that?

I bought an LG portable air conditioner like this one at the local Home Depot. It lasted all of 3 summers (and the summers are short where I live). After that, it barely cooled at all. I contacted LG, and it turns out that they have very few US repair centers -- none was within 1,000 miles of me -- and they would not make good on the faulty unit. Local repair shop said that it was not built to be repaired by third parties; it was a write-off of nearly $500 after only 3 years. Do not buy LG products. They are cheap, shoddy, and do not last. Get a quality brand like Frigidaire instead.

I am not sure if I would recommend this product or not....the unit dropped water all over the carpet and I had to rent a dehumidifier to dry the saturated carpet. I don't know if we didn't read the instructions properly or if it was a faulty AC - I had to return it.

I had an older version of the same product which did a great job keeping my server room temperature controlled. The system board eventually needed to be replaced so I bought this new version to replace it. The new product works fine but it is unable to run throughout the weekend without filling with water and shutting down. Each Monday I come in to work and have to empty the water and restart the device. I have tried settling on 80 degrees but it still fills with water. The previous one I had used to maintain the temperature at 76 degrees without any issue. I would only empty the water monthly at most. Since keeping the room cool over the weekend is the main reason I have this device I am disappointed with the results.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from LG Portable AC 10,000 BTU Initial startup produced an awful rattling vibration. I had to remove the back cover and discovered one copper tube that was to close to the case. As the compressor came on the vibration caused the tube to hit the case. Once I bent the tube carefully away it was fine. Restarting with the case re attached produced no rattling. The unit cooled the 250 Sq. FT room nicely. Because we have casement (crank out ) windows I had a screen assembly modified to accept the exhaust nozzle.
