I have a hardwired smoke alarm in my bedroom. When I plug in the air unit and turn on a light, it causes the smoke alarm to chirp. I am assuming that my electrical panel is wired to have the majority of electrical output to go downstairs where it runs the kitchen appliances. Is there a special extension cord I need to allow for plug in downstairs?

It is also recommended that the air conditioner should be plugged into it's own dedicated outlet. Just installed and seems to be working well at cooling down the room. Nothing obstructing the unit or vent.

HOT Florida
Home Improvement Profile: DIYer
July 26, 2016
Answer:
Very warm, but not very hot. The A/C unit works by compressing, drying, and then expanding the refrigerant. Compressing it creates heat that flows out the exhaust air tube, and expansing it creates the cooling effect by loss of heat. Low refrigerant volume may make unit run hotter. This assumes the tube is installed properly.

Answer:
Yes, it is normal for the exhaust vent hose on the LG 10,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner and Dehumidifier Function with Remote Control in White, Model # LP1014WNR to get hot, that is common for all Portable Single Hose Air Conditioners. If you are concerned about that, you can inquire about insulation sleeves or insulating tape from the Sales Associates at the Home Depot...^IFV

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good air conditioner - loud though This is a nice air conditioner. I purchased it for my bedroom, where I did not want a window AC. I insulated the exhaust vent and wrapped it in black material so it isn't obvious. Pros: This unit has a nice looking design, is compact, easy to install, efficient, I live in Colorado so we it's mostly dry heat and I don't have to empty the water out of this unit often. We have another brand AC in another area of the house we have to drain daily. Easy to program. I like that it has a remote. Cons: The fan is very loud and the low speed is not much different than the high speed. This may be a con for some.. it makes a noise when you turn it on, off and change any setting. Doesn't come with a drain tube. You're expected to purchase one yourself. July 24, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good Enough I bought this portable air conditioner because my apartment complex doesn't allow outside-the-window air conditioners. I felt the price was very reasonable. The way that my apartment is designed, I had to install the AC in the kitchen window to cool down my living room. This wasn't a problem with the venting hose provided and I liked that I could wheel the AC to face my living room. (My con with the venting hose is that it pops out of the diffuser too easily, so I had to tape it together). The rest of the installation went smoothly. This AC cools down the room quickly, but it is a bit loud. June 30, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Not as great as expected... Does NOT cool room below 80 degrees in the middle of summer in NY. We bought 2 units in 2 different sizes, a large for the living room and small one for the bedroom for our small apartment. Both units worked GREAT in the month of May, when the outside temperature was 80, they were able to cool the room to 73. That was the absolute coldest temperature it will ever get in the room. Now that its 95 every day, forget about feeling cool and the loud noise takes a lot of getting used to. Its too bad because these were SO easy to install. Hopefully Home Depot still takes these back for refunds. July 25, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by not portable this product is not portable as described. it must vent from a window which makes it unable to move from room to room. I will be returning it. April 20, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by On its 3rd year We're on our 3rd year with this unit and use it every summer. It does work really well for our large living room. Only complaints are the loud noise requires us to turn the tv really loud (but all ac's are loud I guess) and the vent hose radiates quite a bit of heat (we throw a towel over the hose to better insulate it). Today the water sensor stopped letting me know when it is full so the unit started spitting out mist with the cool air, but seems to be working fine now after draining it.. July 24, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointed Very disappointing. The compressor turns off after reaching set temperature but the fan keeps working, blowing now uncoolled air. You can literary watch the temperature climb fast until the compressor kicks in again and the vicious cycle repeats itself. The difference between fan setting HIGH and LOW is barely noticeable, it means the unit is loud, all the time. If you want to cool a server room this is your A/C, if you want to use it in household environment move on and keep looking. July 24, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Works only when temperature isn't very hot I had my unit for over 3 years. When the weather isn't so hot inside, not over 89 degrees, the unit works well. Although this is very noisy unit so if you are putting n bedroom you will hear it run. My problem is when the temp hits in the upper 90s that's when the unit starts to shut off. It would trip my electrical panel and I would have to reset it. Have gone a few times without it running since i got tired of resetting my panel. Would not recommend. For the aamount it cost I should have gone with a window AC. July 24, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not all that My heat and air unit went out and the way my windows are made a window unit would not work. These portable units are okay if you just want to take some of the sting off of the humidity in the house. But I must admit that the unit was way below the level of comfort that I was expecting. I closed all of the doors off in my house except for the room that I had it in, not to mention adding a lasko blower and I still couldn't get the temp below 85 degrees during the day. Good luck if you get one of these. July 24, 2016
