This product is excellent for a a bedroom or small room. I would highly recommend going to home depot and buying a 6 inch diameter by five foot insulation sleeve for the unit. It is amazing how much more efficient the unit becomes with the five dollar sleeve over the exhaust hose.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by penguindigo Works fine once you get the hang of it...
We bought this a few days ago. It has kept us pretty cool (a nice change given the insane heat and humidity we're having for Michigan in July). In general, I'd say it manages to "cover" the main room of our apartment (which is the... very hot... upper floor of a duplex) and the bathroom (which, for some reason, gets even more hot and humid than the rest of the apartment). So, in terms of basic ability to get the job done, this guy works fine.
We had several of the same problems others have mentioned:
- instructions are difficult to make sense of, but ultimately the install was pretty easy. Neither my wife nor I are particularly handy people (though we have basic proficiency with common tools). There's a lot of references to specific pieces (e.g. "foam strip A" that are not labelled and no diagram is given to differentiate them) you have to sort of interpolate from the text what they're referring to. A lot. That being said, we had the thing installed in a casement (sideways-opening) window that is about 47 inches tall (necessitating use of unlabeled extenders for the window piece) in less than an hour.
- Dripping: like I said, it's humid here right now. This thing works with a compressor, which is to say it generates A LOT of water. It took us a couple days and several mini-floods as we tried different methods for efficiently draining the water, but we eventually figured out a system that works for us (so far) -> put an aluminum pie tin under the nozzle, leave the nozzle open to allow water to drip into the pan, occasionally close the nozzle (tightly: mini-flood number 1 was caused because our unit apparently shipped without the nozzle being fully closed), empty the pie tin into a sink or a bucket, place the pie tin back, open the nozzle, rinse (literally) and repeat :).
- Size: the unit, just FYI, is bigger than it looks online, and pretty heavy. Bring a buddy: don't be a hero.
Okay, my wife says I'm writing a novel here: the upshot is that the unit works fine to keep a mid-size, single floor apartment livable during the summer, but requires some inelegant jury-rigging to deal with the water.
Epilogue: mini-flood number 2 was caused because we tried to tilt the unit back to let out water faster. We were overly successful.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by MsDougie DON'T DENY YOURSELF THE GOOD LIFE!! GET THIS NOW!
OMG....I am sitting here with my feet hanging off my bed wiggling my toes!!! I have been miserable for 2 weeks without air...I tried the portable Air Cooler from Home Depot...all it did was re-push hot air around the room with very little comfort...that cost $179...I took it back and purchased this unit and OMG I feel so normal again...don't read the negative comments and decide not to buy it like I almost did..they say its loud, well you hear the fan BUT I bet you wont say you didnt sleep because it was hot!!! lol...its a little louder than a refridgerater, not as loud as a car motor...it begans to cool down right away...at first the coolness was intermittent between fan & cool...as I was on hold with the support number I read the troubleshooting manual and it said it needs time to cool off a TOO hot room...after about 10 mins (after I shut the bedroom door) the unit ran cold continously...after about 20 mins I had to turn the control down to low...I feel like Im in a cool store and need a sweater although its 95 degrees in the other part of the house at midnight...so yeah,,,BUY THIS, AND DON'T DENY YOURSELF THE GOOD LIFE!!! iHappy now :) ... oh for the window kit...I have a sliding patio door, so it wasnt enough plastic kit connections to reach the entire opening slit, so I cut some cardboard from a box the width of one of the window kit sections, taped it to the end of one section then taped it at top of sliding patio door opening...sealed it with package tape on side...and waaaalah....Im living the good life....

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Legibryn I normally am impressed by LG
Got this product because I am a big fan of LG products, but must say I am very disappointed in this 10k BTU portable air conditioner. First off it is very very loud for a 300 SqFt room. Second had a buddy test the BTU's it as actually putting out on full setting and it was averaging around 6.500 BTU, this could be a flaw in the one I have but nevertheless it should have been tested. This unit struggled to keep my little 100 Sq ft room 70 degrees. Also the temp gauge on mined was wildly off when it was not running, 3-5 degrees off the actual room temp. I did insulate the flexible duct and the window so it would not produce as much heat.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Dundee The air conditioner was easy to install, works very well is pleasant to look at.
One of the reasons we wanted a portable air conditioner was so we could pull all parts inside the house and close and lock the windows whenever we want to which lessens the possibility of illegal entry when we are not home.. Also, from outside the house the small opening flush with the window looks much nicer than a square box air conditioner hanging out the window. Lastly, we could use it in another room if we need or want to and it would be quite easy to move. This air conditioner gives a lot more options for the direction of the air flow than the window one would. As well as adjusting the louvres you can turn the whole unit. The wheels work well even on carpet. The noise level is what I would expect, but not objectionable. We just have to turn the TV up a little louder.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Dissappointed Not for humid basement or conditions
Fair price. Cools about 250 sq ft well enough. It's loud. You can't shift air flow left to right, only up and down. This unit is not for basements or other humid conditions. I was very excited about the evaporation system and not having to empty pans or try to figure out how to get run-off water to drain UP to a sink or window. Then after more than an hour of figuring out how to vent it out through a basement casement window...I woke up the next morning to a saturated carpet in front of the unit...the water that doesn't evaporate gets sprayed out the front with the cool air. Now will have to run dehumidifier half the time to remove enough moisture from the air then run the AC the other half the time to cool off the room. NOT what I was expecting.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by redkhat works well but a bit loud
I had it up and running in less than 30 min, including installing the window vent. It's small and easy to use, cools a small area very well. But it's loud-you couldn't sleep in the same room with it. Other than that it's a good unit.
