Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Steven Doesnt cool well
My ac went out so I bought this unit to use until it is fixed. I have it running in a bedroom approximately 280sqft and vented out the window. The door to the bedroom is closed and I put a towel to help prevent warm air from rest of house coming in from crack under door. When I turned the unit on, it stated 94 degrees, which cant be true, my thermostat says 85. After running in cool mode for 3 hours the temp dropped from 94 on the unit to 87. It feels like cold air coming out, but doesnt cool down the room to anything comfortable. It has been running 20 hours now and still sitting around 86-87. Save your money and get a window unit.

We have two portable room air conditioners going in our condo at any given time. Have always used LG products. This one, however, didn't quite measure up to your usual quality. Just replaced it w/a 12,000 BTU. Hopefully, it won't have to work quite as hard. I should add that we added another one identical to this one in December, 2015. It's doing well and we are pleased with the performance.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Dan **** LG 10,000 BTU Portable air condition - good, but there's a trick to installing it right
The unit works well and cools down the room strongly IF you don't let any heat exhaust seep back in. The first few days it didn't seem to work well, and I thought the unit wasn't good, but once I reinstalled the exhaust frame in the window properly, it worked fine and chilled the room. Also make sure you have the right capacity: 12,000 BTU for large rooms, 10,000BTU for mid-sized rooms, and 8,000 BTU for only the smallest rooms.
I had to use a couple of "L" brackets and flat brackets to keep the exhaust frame tightly in place against the window, and duct tape to seal up any hot exhaust leakage. NOW it works well and as intended.
I set it on "Cool," "High Fan" and to 72 degrees, and it cools it to 72 degree, and I live in Las Vegas.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by NewYorkGirl10538 Powerful device but have to empty water tank daily
We tried this portable AC for a few weeks and its very powerful and easy to install, HOWEVER, because it does not hang out the window, the water condensation drips into a tank and you have to empty it almost every day (the device shuts off when the tank is full). It is very humid in NY and to empty the water tank every day is a major annoyance. We could buy a pump and tube to drain out the window but we already spent over $300 for this device and do not want additional costs or hassle. The device also does not have an energy saver option, only a timer feature if you want to put it on in the future.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Twerk Response to all the Kvetching about drainage problems
OK. You've read all the negative reviews and most of them are kvetching about how hard it is to drain this unit because the drain plug is at the bottom. What these poor lost souls haven't grokked is that the AC should be used in "Dry" mode for high humidity environments. This mode diverts the condensation water to the upper hose outlet instead of the lower tray. Simply attach a piece of hose to the outlet and drain into a five gallon bucket. The drainage occurs as the unit runs. Much more convenient than periodic drainage requirements.
I think most people don't understand that the "Dry" mode is just the "Cool" mode plus diversion to the upper hose outlet for use in high humidity situations. You CANNOT dry air without cooling it - that's basic physics. I guess the LG people figured people with high school physics could figure that out. Sadly not. They should have put in a bit more explanation.
The compressor on my unit is almost noiseless. I cannot hear it turning on and off. The dual box fan is as quiet as one can expect considering the volume of air being moved. High and low fan settings are really High and just slightly less High. There's no reason I can see to use the low setting. The object of this machine is to cool a room and slowing the fan down just makes it less efficient with no diminishment of noise.
Do not consider this a brother to the 8000 BTU unit. That unit is junk. Different compressor that is very loud and doesn't cool worth a fig. This unit really is excessively cold for my use - I place it right in front of me and use it as a personal cooler.
Anyway - dismiss all the negative reviews about how hard it is to drain and you'll see that most people are really happy with this.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Osama The exact air condition for my place.
I am really happy with this air conditioner. It's the perfect portable air conditioner in the corner of my room and I had a LG brand before. It's the best on to buy.
