No, it's a self-contained unit, no water needed, altho you may have to empty some once in a blue moon, unless you're using it as a dehumidifier, then I imagine you'd be emptying it more often... =^.^=

HI Susie You dont have to put any water in. In higher humidity areas you do have to drain a little water which is very easy to do. And it tells you when you have to by shutting off and a little bell ringing/ Easy peasy.

No, you do not have to add water. If you are just using it as an air conditioner there is no water to drain or empty either. Although if you want to use it ONLY as a dehumidifier you will need to find a way to drain the excess water from a little hole in the bottom.

Answer:
No, but you may have to drain the unit periodically. Operation of all cooling units will result in condensation, and the water must go somewhere. This unit seems to exhaust condensation out the window (along with hot air). Draining requirements are either infrequent or not required. Not having to drain the unit is very convenient.

It is certainly louder than a box fan or window unit of comparable size, but not so bad that it keeps us awake. The cycling on/off of the compressor might bother some folks, but the trade off for a nice chilly sleeping area is worth it!

You do not need to add water. If you use the machine as a dehumidifier, water will come out of the bottom though. It should not leak when only being used as an A/C though.

NO, you dont fill with water, it takes moisture out of the air, that is why there is a drain hose on it. That is if your talking about the LG 11,000 portable air conditioner.

I don't know if there is an accessory or not to collect the water. But the intention is that you connect a hose to the drain... and well drain it into a drain.

I guess I really never thought about it since I have a drain in my landury room, and can just roll it over there to drain it, if I ever have to do that.
But I can see picking that up, WOW, now that is hard on the back, I think I would, take a board with a brick (s) make a make shift ramp and roll it up there and then drain it, if I had to do it that way.
You never said how often you have to do this, but to me making a temporary ramp is way better then picking it up.
If you had stairs roll it to a stair and drain it. Or if you could roll it to a porch and drain it off the porch.
Just a few thoughts but picking it up, no that may really cause a problem over time with the back.
Hope some of this helps,,,call LG and tell them. They just may rethink the design.

The only real solution is to install a drain hose.
I tried raising the unit and placing a pan under it, but got tired of emptying it every few hours.
I finally installed a drain hose last summer to solve the problem for good.
I've had our unit for about a year now.
BTW:
Someting else you should do is wrap pipe insulation around the exhaust hose.
Otherwise, the 'uninsulated' hose radiates 100deg+ heat

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Does the job great ! Beats turning on the AC for the entire house. For some reason, certain rooms in our home just don't get very cool when the house AC is used. When only the rooms we need to occupy need to be cooled down you can roll this unit to where you need it and it does a great job. I have 2 and couldn't be more pleased. Not that quiet but not so noisy that you can't watch TV or listen to music. Love that I can use this unit in my sliding windows. Easy to store. Only downside is emptying the unit if you're using the dehumidifier feature...which I don't usually use. So if you're just using it for cooling you won't have to empty it for a very long time. It's on casters so you can just roll it around and it does have handels on each side for when you need to lift it. A good buy for the money. August 13, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Good basic unit This is a well made unit that works up to a point. When it gets too hot, the unit will cycle on and off and will not cool. If you are trying to cool a bedroom this unit will work great. If you have a room that gets hot at 3 in the afternoon, this unit will not work well for you. Also, the unit generates a lot of heat so venting is very important. If you don't have a window you can vent out of, you can vent up into your attic by using 5" insulated ac duct. I've shown some pictures. July 6, 2011
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by This unit is absolute JUNK We purchase (2) of these units for (2) small 10' x 14' offices expecting them to last at least a few years, NOT!! (1) unit failed in 1.2 years and the other failed in 1.6 years and after what would have been the cost for a service call, parts & labor - I might as well buy a new one. I will not purchase another LG air conditioner ever again. AVOID THESE UNITS December 11, 2012
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by I too purchased one of these, do not buy The first year operated generally okay. Toward the end of a year, it began to make noise kicking off and on. This year after three days of use, it stopped. nothing. service cost would be more than unit is worth, LG's online 'trouble shooting' = plug in, turn on, repeat. if it doesn't work set up repair service.... Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Old dog and his human love the cool dry air My old dog was having trouble breathing in the summer heat, so I got him the LG air conditioner. I was amazed at how much more comfortable and energetic we both feel in the cool dry air. This is a wonderful air conditioner and dehumidifier. We love it. August 28, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very user friendly and easy to set up. This portable air conditioning unit fits perfectly into our communications room due do it's sleek profile. It runs very effectively and performs great for our needs. December 18, 2012
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Lousy Air Conditioner Only had this unit for 2 1/2 years. It quit cooling. Evaporator coil started leaking and, of course, that part is not covered by warranty and LG would not stand behind it. I would not recommend this unit or any other product offered by LG. July 10, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Puchase Not sure why there are some bad review. We love this model. We went through 3 air conditioners until this purchase. Thsi was the best by far. We used it in 500 sq foot area with zero issues. This will be the 2nd summer we have used it. We also bought a 7000 BTU LG and it works great too. It takes zero maintenence and filter is easy to clean. June 22, 2015
