We have a dedicated dehumidifier in our basement. In the summer it warms up the basement quite a bit because it exhausts hot air. If we run this unit in dehumidify mode, will it exhaust cool air into the basement and the hot air outside? Thank you.

There are three causes for why your new LG 12,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner and Dehumidifier Function with Remote Control in Gray, Model # LP1214GXR is leaking from the bottom. The unit has a drain cap under which is a rubber plug that have to be removed to drain the unit when the internal water collection tank gets full and needs emptying. If they are not securely reinstalled after draining, or if the rubber plug is damaged, water will leak. Look for wetness around the plug which will indicate if the plug is damaged or not. If it is, it will need to be replaced, otherwise, check to make sure that they have been firmly and securely pushed back in place. When the water collection tank is full, you should get an "FL" alert on the display and the machine should shut off until it is drained. If that is not happening, look to see that the unit is installed on a level surface. If it is tilting, as the water collection tank fills, because it is tilting, water will leak out from the bottom and the unit will not show the "FL" alert nor shut down. If none of the above apply and the unit is not showing the "FL" alert and shutting off, then it will need a repair service. It is still within warranty if you have only had it for a month...^IFV Read Less

So that if the first unit was defective, the second unit is more likely to be defective too. I can only speculate that if all the steps were followed in the owners manual regarding use and care, both units you received were defective. If a unit worked when tested at the factory and later failed to work, there is a reasonable probability it lost its refrigerant due to rough handing in shipment or storage or defective materials or workmanship in manufacture. However, a trained refrigeration technician will have to inspect the unit to determine the actual reason the unit is not cooling. Read Less

There are several reasons as to why the LG 12,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner and Dehumidifier Function with Remote Control in Gray, Model # LP1214GXR may not be cooling. Without any details of how the unit is installed in your room, we cannot determine why your unit may not be getting cold but there are some things you will want to check. Firstly, you will want to make sure that the unit has at least a 20" clearance around it so that it has adequate air flow around it especially in the rear of the unit where the louvers are. Your exhaust hose should be as straight as possible and should not be extended any longer than intended. Make sure it does not have any bends more than 45˚. depending on how long you have owned this unit, if you have owned it a while and the air filter has never been cleaned, you will want to take the air filter out and clean it. It can be washed in warm water if it is heavily soiled. Do not use hot water or wash it in your dishwasher. If the filter is lightly soiled, you can use a vacuum cleaner to clean it. Make sure the filter is dry before putting it back into the air conditioner. If you have had this unit more than a year, if the coils are dirty, they will need to be cleaned and the "LG guy" will be able to determine if they need to be cleaned or not. You also want to make sure that the window through which you are venting the unit through to the outside is sealed properly and not allowing warm air into the room. 12,000 BTU will cool an estimated area of 400 sq. ft. (i.e a 20 ft. x 20 ft. room). If your room is bigger than that, the air conditioner will never cool the room, it will run all day in an attempt to cool the room but will never cool it even when the set temperature is set at 60˚. The temperature showing on your display is not the room temperature, it is the set temperature and depending on how hot it is, it may take a while for the unit to reach that set temperature. If the room you are looking to cool opens into other rooms, then you have to add the square footage of those other rooms to the room that the air conditioner is installed in to determine the appropriate BTU rating to cool them...^IFV Read Less

Was it laying down during delivery or moving? If so it needs to stand up for a couple hours before starting. It will not start blowing really cold air until it has run for a good 15 minutes or so. Without seeing a pic of the control panel, it sounds like a setting issue?

I want to purchase this portable AC unit but I have casement windows that are 62" tall. I'm not having much luck finding additional panels without buying a whole new kit for over $100... I have found aftermarket kits for about $50 but they have a round 6" hole. Can the diffuser be removed without cutting it off from the hose as to avoid voiding the warranty?

I do not intend to disassemble (remove the diffuser funnel) from the end of my unit's exhaust hose to answer this question. However, being somewhat mechanically inclined, it appears to me that if the round plastic grid in the diffuser were rotated (turned) clockwise, it would release from the four slots inside the diffuser funnel that hold the plastic exhaust hose against the inside of the diffuser. The plastic grid tabs may have to be depressed slightly to be released from their adjoining slots if they employ teeth to keep the plastic grid from backing out on its own. I cannot speak for the manufacturer. However, modifying the exhaust connection at the window should not void the warrantee as long as such modification does not result in a restriction that could overheat and damage the unit. Read Less

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works great! I use this in a sunroom that is 13 x 26, with eight single pane patio doors; four of these doors receive full sun for about four hours a day. I live in Georgia, and it's been in the 90's since I purchased it. Last year I would have to close this room off, and go to the living room after 2:00 in the afternoon it was so hot. It's not overly noisy, about the same as a box fan would be. I have it at one end of the room, and the tv and couches at another end; I can hear the tv fine. Installation was easy. I've only had it for a month, but so far am pleased. I am curious to see the difference in my power bill, and will try to remember to come back and update this. July 21, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Defective! I purchased two of these a/cs at the beginning of this summer and one of them broke pretty much right away. I have it sitting in a tub in case of leakage so my wood floor is not ruined. I have used portable a/cs before and there is always drippage so I'm careful. For one of the a/cs, the tub fills up with water pretty much right away. You could hear there is some type of leak in the unit. It also started making this rattling noise. The other unit works well - but I would not gamble - its is a huge hassle returning this a/c back to the store. August 10, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Not made for 400 sqft I have always loved and trusted LG products and will continue to but this purchase was a disappointment. It claims to work for areas up to 400 sqft. I put it in a 240 sqft bedroom and it took 5 hours to cool the room 3 degrees. It tripped the 15 amp breaker in the process, and all I had going was the light and 2 fans. So I left running over night with nothing else on that breaker other than 2 cell phones and it tripped the breaker again overnight. So disappointed here, my advice is to stick with LG for TVs and appliances. It doesnt look like they know what they are doing with A/C. July 26, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Poor Air Conditioner, Window unit is better The vent/air exhaust heated up to over 100 degrees, making the room the unit was in very uncomfortable. Unit is large, but exhaust is lower than most window sills, thus the exhaust hose has to be stretched and bent to put in window. I returned the unit. This type of product is not suitable for our New England house. August 9, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Second unit we own broken... do not buy! I bought two of these thinking it would be nice to use then roll away for the winter. FIrst unit stopped producing cool air this season which is its 3rd. Our second unit is doing the same thing. Repairs are difficult to find (the suggested company for LG stated they don't work on them and the company doesn't stand behind their product (for one year only). Sadly with two units not functioning we are out $800 bucks. August 11, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great portable unit This is a great portable air conditioning unit. I recommend that you use a 5 gallon bucket and use a small length of ½ inch hose for water condensation drainage. Also purchase a vent wrap (amazon has aluminum type bubble wrap cheap) to wrap your vent hose due to heat. The 5 gallon bucket is definitely helpful. August 12, 2016
