We would need more details to determine why it's not blowing cold air, but you can try doing some troubleshooting. If the unit runs cold at times but runs hot on other occasions, check to make sure that the unit is set to "Auto". You can also check your air filter, a dirty air filter can affect the unit's cooling performance. If you have had the air conditioner a while and have never had a maintenance service performed on it yet, you may need to have it checked. Dirty evaporator and condenser coils will also reducing its' cooling capacity. That maintenance needs to be done by an LG Authorized Service Center. Other causes like faulty parts or low refrigerant levels will require a repair service...^IFV Read Less

What is this white dryer looking (phone cord spirals) hose for? Do I have to put it thru the wall or out a window?? I just want one to sit in the middle of the floor and cool the room. I live in a very dry (normally not over 10-20% humidity. I don't have any way to "cut a hole" in the wall or run it out the window. We have night animals and I don't want to have them in the house, so don't want anything "venting" to the outside. Is this necessary??? Would it still work without this hose thing?

You need to vent the hot air from the ac out with that hose. If you don't vent it outside the ac will do nothing.

Individual results will vary based on outdoor temperatures and how well the room or rooms being cooled are insulated. The unit is designed to remove 12,000 Btu per hour from the conditioned space. However, the unit also exhausts some cool air from the conditioned space, requiring makeup air to come from outdoors somewhere, which depending on outdoor temperatures, can add a lot of heat to the area being cooled or another area in the home. A portable unit is very easy to set up and move around compared to a window unit. However, a window unit can be nearly twice as efficient as a portable unit. For example: an 8,000 Btu window unit is rated to cool 350 sq. ft. and would not bring heat and humidity into the home for its operation. Read Less

There are a few things that you will need to consider if you're deciding to vent the LG 12,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner and Dehumidifier Function with Remote Control in Gray, Model # LP1214GXR to an attic. The exhaust hose that comes with this unit is specially designed to the product's specifications and cannot be lengthened or modified in any way or replaced with your own private hose as that could cause the compressor to shut down from back pressure and cause the output air to be warm and reduce unit's cooling capacity. It would also cause the unit to overheat and would void your warranty. The hose is 5 feet long so it may not reach your attic. You mentioned that your attic has plenty ventilation so that wouldn't be an issue. If it didn't, there wouldn't be a way to pushing the heat from the exhaust to the outside and the unit would work for a short while and will eventually overheat then shut off. The other issue would be how close to an outlet you would have to have the unit. The power cord is 6 feet long and you cannot use an extension cord with air conditioners. That is a potential fire hazard and is strongly discouraged....^IFV Read Less

If venting into an attic, be aware that humidity removed from the interior of the home is going to be transferred into the attic. As long as the attic is well ventilated, there shouldn't be a problem, unless operating the unit when it is cold outdoors which could lead to moisture condensing in the attic. The unit's exhaust fan, while powerful, is designed to operate efficiently with no more than its 5-foot, 6-inch diameter exhaust hose. If it is necessary to add length to the exhaust hose, adding a couple of feet, as long as the run can be kept straight as possible, should not cause restriction. Straight runs are less restrictive than runs with two or more bends. Restricting the exhaust can reduce the efficiency of the unit and increase its power consumption. The unit could be raised off the floor (table/shelf) as long as it is supported in a manner that vibration would not cause it to fall over. While not necessary, raising the unit may also lead to increased comfort since cold air will be discharged closer to the ceiling. Read Less

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by cool one i used it on my room after my AC break down and awaiting repair , it cooled reeally well , i slept great again , i wish its just quieter , and can be set to turn on and off at a certain time , overall im happy with my purchase , portable so its in my living room now , i can move it around! its a keeper , when my AC gets fixed il leave it my bedroom , set it at 65 F , while leaving the whole house 70-73 F , it will save me money in the long run ! Love it ☺️ June 19, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to install and user friendly! Good quality operation and great value for the money invested! June 14, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by noisy and leaks I don't know if I have a lemon, but mine leaks and is extremely noisy when fan level is up. If the leaking is just due to mine (and yes, I emptied it daily and made sure the plug was secure and external knob tight), then I would say go for it. It does cool nicely, just don't have it in a room where there is a television or you want to have a conversation. I will also say the way to empty the water collected needs to be modernized. The machine is quite heavy and you have to literally turn it over to get all of the water out. I ended up going out and buying a traditional window air conditioner. July 8, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Summer Heat After completing the remodel of a bonus room, we discovered that the house A/C just wasn't enough to keep the room comfortable. We purchased this, and it has been amazing. Not only does it cool the bonus room, but it drastically impacts the attached living room. I'm ridiculously inept at putting things together, but even I managed to have it up and going in about an hour. A great find to off-set the California heat. July 19, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by It's ok but... Hi, this air conditioner will cool down a large area, about 400 square feet. However, the plastic flexible exhaust pipe heats up so eventually what happens is the cool air produced by the unit begins to fight the hot air eminated from the exhaust tube. When you walk around the area to the side and back of the unit you will notice it's warm and muggy feeling after about an hour of use. If this is your only option to cool your place then go for it but a smaller window unit would have almost the same results and use less energy...I ended up wrapping the exhaust tube in a non fiberglass insulation wrap. It seems to help but the heat does penetrate through. I put it as close to the window as I could so that less plastic pipe exhaust vent is exposed and less heat would radiate from it.Thanks for reading. July 17, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Worked Great-while it lasted Purchased this on June 20th and it did everything I expected it to do. It was great. Until suddenly on July 10th, it wouldn't blow cool air. I did all the troubleshooting available on LG website but it appears to have an issue with the coolant. I'm giving it a 1 score based on the product. Customer service was excellent at home depot and I had no problem returning it for a full refund July 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very well-designed This is an excellent portable air conditioner. I've owned three other prior to this for a variety of environments (basement, 2nd floor, office) and this has been my favorite. I use it to cool the downstairs in my house: the living room, dining room, and kitchen, and it does well, especially when using the automatic swinging vent feature. Highly recommended; I will be sticking with LG from now on. July 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Great A/C. I use it in a dorm room, and it keeps it COLD. I like it right at 60*F, and even being 110*F outside, my room is a solid 60*F. Just glad that I don't pay the electricty bill.... July 19, 2016
